I'm only sixteen, so Morrowind wasn't that new when i really started playing games. I watched my dad play it a lot and i tried to get into it. As little as i did, i still think this game is the best of them all! I just wish i could hit people when i stabbed them :/ lol
This really is my favorite. It brings back this feeling that makes me want to cry and celebrate at the same time and its magical and feels like an actual adventure compared to oblivion and skyrim. Theres something truly magic here
The really mellow melancholic music of this OST suited the surreal world of the game. The game world was pretty different for an rpg in the respect that you could have Roman architecture and styles mixed in with massive travelling insects rather than just having lots of medieval buildings and themes. The music was really beautiful, better than most contemporary film OSTs.
may we remember Jiub, who later turned into Saint Jiub for his heroic act of clearing all the cliff racers from Vvardenfell. He most certainly will be remembered....he met his end to the deadra during the oblivion crisis.....lest we forget......amen.
@bi4ly92 i think its pretty awesome. i think the only thing that it doesnt have is some sort of multiplayer arena where you can go in and play with other people, even if only had that online aspect i think the game would be much much awesomerrrrr. other than that its perfect!
@Frakos I love Oblivion and I love Skyrim but just reading that makes my skin tingle and hair raise on the back of my head, the music and atmosphere of Morrowind is second to none, the animation and combat were horrible but who cares? the game is just a masterpiece and I don't think Bethesda can ever recapture that Morrowind feeling. I even played Oblivion first yet I still prefer Morrowind.
@harvesterofsorrow111 I want to agree, but god Skyrim is purely awesome. Rarely do I fall for the whole 'amazing graphics' thing, but they did such an amazing job. I used to go hiking a lot, and the images in Skyrim are almost like snapshots out of those hiking adventures.
I will agree that Morrowind's music stands out a lot more, though. I don't know. Morrowind = Masterpiece. Oblivion = Great. Skyrim = So far, phenomenal, but still playing.
@ckolar612 You could try the 'Morrowind Overhaul' mod, recently updated to 2.0! Morrowind's music is the best of all TES games, imo the atmosphere is too, now this mod brings the graphics up to par.
If you're into hiking, yes Skyrim nailed the feeling. Morrowind's more plains 'n hills, so I'm biased :P
@eno88 I'm starting to agree with everyone more and more. I've only logged 46 hours into Skyrim, and it's really fun...but it feels more like a 'video game' and less like an 'experience'. There's just something Morrowind that is unique and encompassing.
Still, Skyrim is fun as all hell, I'll give it that. It has a different type of atmosphere about it...a more 'real' atmosphere. Like "this is what Norway would look like in another dimension"
The dislikers are probably Dagoth Ur, Almalexia, and Hircine. One of them might actually be Sheogorath though, you know how he likes to throw rocks from space at elves and blow up their islands...
ITs a great game and if you feel that the grapics are a little dated you can install so many mods to improve it . Hell if you got the PC you can even surpass Oblivon in terms of graphics .
@Nemesis0300 If this song was in Skyrim, everyone would cry, because they think back to this game, and the many happy memories it brings, atleast for me...
I don't get it, is it just me or was Elder Scrolls 3 the best of all? The music and the layout, maybe because I started playing at the age of 12, and still do today, captures something that feels so much deeper than just a video game...and I don't find that same mystical atmosphere as in Oblivion or the others.
@kustom85delta88 yeah there was lots about oblviion that didnt match up to morrowind, the people were all kinda cheery and cartoonish, the music was good, but i prefer morrowinds for some reason, so many of the dungeons in oblivion were pretty much empty and useless, items would move around in chests and stuff when games were loaded...
@kustom85delta88 I really understand what you mean. In Morrowind, you felt home... It's not the same like Oblivion. In Oblivion, you now, this world isn't real. But in Morrowind, you got the feeling, that this world ist the another world, and the screen is a window to this world. Morrowind capture you in itself. you can't discribe Morrowind, you'll never find the right words..
@kustom85delta88 I started to play morrowind when I was 12 too. I guess thats the explanation of feeling this game so great. Its like my first girlfriend. I still remember her lips, her laugh and her essence, even if things were not as great as I remember they were.
@kustom85delta88 It's about us as people, as we evolve to require better games, we evolve faster than the industry itseems. Explain this - I remember being more immersed by Icewind fucking Dale, than Skyrim, when I was about 16, now at 25 if I play that game I turn it off in 30 seconds. It's GOTTA be about our chemistry, and our demand for something better every 5 seconds, rather than the games being actually better or not.
@rogerthat155 I think its something to do with child hood, everything is mysterious and ignorance brings curiosity and wonder, your imagination makes up for what you don't know or understand, so you see everything casting a shadow bigger than itself, I remember as a kid I'd turn any game into my own personal playground, much like playing with toys, Can't go back and feel an atmosphere that was generated through being a child..
@kustom85delta88 But also, closer related to your actual point, Morrowind wasn't as 'scrappy' as the other games. The guards in oblivion screwed it for me. STOP! You violated the law. But the music and exploration ruled. Everything about morrowind lined up properly. And the fact that you could type something like setav acrobatics 1000 and FLY ACROSS THE WORLD, beats the hell out of fast travelling on the map.
@kustom85delta88 You're making all kinds of sense. I started playing Oblivion when i was around that age, and i feel the same way about Oblivion, and Skyrim can't shake that, even though i love Skyrim. The great challenge of my life is to go to Morrowind and finish it, now with its two younger brothers showing the way. I've tried twice already, but things happen in threes.
@kustom85delta88 You're like me, man. Do you know what the words you are looking for are? It's like this:
Morrowind felt more like a world than any of the others. Oblivion and Skyrim are games and you feel it, but Morrowind feels like it continues even if you're not playing it.
When I hear this, I feel like I'm on a Silt Strider, staring into the ocean with a full moon and many twinkling stars. This game creates the most mystical and beautiful atmosphere.
I actually thought Morrowind wasn't a great entry into the Elder Scrolls series, but I did at least get enjoyment out of it. I think I probably clocked in about 100~ish hours or so, but after that, I still somehow thought that it wasn't that great of an RPG.
However, now years later.... after hearing these musics, I have this sudden uncontrollable craving to play it again. I think I'm going to re-acquire it now.
The thing about these soundtracks are that they are about 10x better when you can actually hear the sound effects go with it, especially the rain sounds. But thats pretty crazy to think about, because these soundtracks are alone, without the sound effects, better than anything i've ever heard
@Supaflow7 You can always try it out, though I think you may find the feel quite different than Oblivion. It's a lot less "pretty" than Oblivion was in terms of graphics and scenery, and the overall colour palette was more neutral as opposed to vivid like Oblivion's. There's some voice acting when characters are near you and greet you, however the interactions with them are pure text, so that will feel a bit different.
However, Morrowind certainly has its charm. I'd recommend giving it a chance
The really mellow melancholic music of this OST suited the surreal world of the game. The game world was pretty different for an rpg in the respect that you could have Roman architecture and styles mixed in with massive travelling insects rather than just having lots of medieval buildings and themes. The music was really beautiful, better than most contemporary
i now it like it was yesterday,i walked from seyda neen to balmora and somwhere the musik started with playing and i turned my boxes louder and just relaxed to the music......then a rat killed me .____.
If Morrowind had updated visuals,horseback/fast travel, and full audio dialog it would trash Oblivion. Put in a full Coop/Multi mode and it would trash any RPG.
@Rjackman84 umm...it has fast travel, they are called slickstriders and boats and are at every major location, as for horseback, I don't know if it would be as great because then the scale would not work as well, i.e. the world would seem smaller... as for the Multimode - yeah well who wouldn't like that! :D
@exitleftnow from someone who loves open world games like red dead and morrowind oblivion original final fantasies... larger game worlds do not make for better games. morrowind is huge oblivion is ridiculously overwrought. it is too large, yet the world is sparse. i always thought a smaller world in oblivion with more to do would have been more enjoyable. here comes skyrim!
@solomonomon I read up on some reviews and interviews on Skyrim. Skyrim has 8 people working on the cave systems while Oblivion only had one. Atleast now if there are the same amount (Or fewer) caves than Oblivion, they should show some differences :D
@exitleftnow Was that about the caves? Still, I would love to see huge differences in the cave designs... Maybe make them deeper but revisit certain parts of it? Or maybe more traps... It just gets boring having the same old gas, spike and arrow tricks... I wanna see stuff like wolves being released XD
@angryboy2k9 yeah that would be cool, but the thing that always bugged me the most was the fact that there were 2-3 farms for an entire continent...or something along that scale anyway. I want to see some serious fields! and the plants don't all have to be lootable...that would be going over the top. but a couple of wheat and potato fields sure would be nice to explain the abundance of food in homes!
@exitleftnow personally if they had REAL kinds of food it would be nice, not just rat meat, hound meat and bugs. or real veggies too, instead of just various leafs.
It was the landscape that really did it. It wasn't just a beautiful countryside that you crossed to get to your destination, it was a whole world in-and-of itself. It made you feel like you were really there, I mean honestly, truly, and completely THERE. If you were leaving a city you could actually look behind you and tell yourself you just left that city. Something a lot of games lack.
This soundtrack just made me wana install Morrowind again, had forgoten how much better it is than many other Role plauing games out there. No other game got the same "felling" as this old gem here :)
oh god im getting withdrawal-symptoms ;_; i spent half my puberty playing this game, and thats because it only came out in the second half of said puberty
I'm only sixteen, so Morrowind wasn't that new when i really started playing games. I watched my dad play it a lot and i tried to get into it. As little as i did, i still think this game is the best of them all! I just wish i could hit people when i stabbed them :/ lol

Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon were so amazing. Never sat longer infront of a game.
The music, the atmosphere, the size of the whole world (come on it´s huge).
Loved every single minute I played this game and I would do it again if I hadn´t played this game completely through yet... at least most of it.
