Great video. I also love some of the comments that get drowned out a bit in the audio. "I have a pet dinosaur." Then later, about bragging about being better than Mississippi: "I hear that a lot!"
this is going to sound very prejudiced, but why oh WHY is TEXAS the standard for our schools?why do book publishers use them as the lightening rod?why are backwards, knee jerk, redneck attitudes running things?sigh...
@practicalmagic9 why? because they are a financial power house... they buy the most text books per capita, per annum, than any other state... so of course, the publishers are going to cater to them... after that... the other states would have to spend more money to get the texts altered.
@fimeilleur really...per capita?per YEAR?wow...okay. I get it.i mean, per capita california should have more kids/schools, but we are talking money here, and frequency of purchases i guess. so it does make sense.plus, if you have enough rich influencials in one place you can change things. thank you for the info.
proably because of there political standing in the country and the fact they are a huge state with lots of kids to sell those wonderful school books too. proably twice as many as any state but california and florida.

i don't think creationism is just as "innocent" as it seems, but a very strong political movement. ignorance is just a result of teaching it, but it's certainly based on a very structured idea of domination, just like other stupid ideas born from religion: crusades, inquisition, nicea's council, etc. we must stop this crap not only with education, but with empowerment of people, religious or non-religious.
I can see how Will Smith might think this. He's a guy with no formal acting training who somehow became the biggest box office draw in the world. You might believe some weird things to try to explain that.
After all, we could be wrong. No one, NO ONE can produce scientific, measurable evidence that in today's technology can prove or disprove of a higher power. We can only assume that the LACK of evidence strongly suggests that divinity is on vacation or doesn't exist at all.
I am not Christian but I believe that faith has kept in check the socially borderline moral members. To my great disappointment have concluded that there is no evidence/logic to divine influence. I do believe that secularism is a destructive virus. We should allow our youth to entertain and explore all venues. This is not your or mine's edict. Let all be availed to all information and thus they can decide. You could be wrong. You cannot manifest at will your logic. Nor can I.
Logic is a defense or argument based on reasonable premises that explain a stance. I can manifest logic when stating logical arguments.
Secularism does not deny children knowledge. However it does not force them to learn a particular religous stance. Secularism actually exposes them to more views than a Theocracy. Sounding smart isn't the same as being smart.
@TeachScience101 "However it does not force them to learn a particular religous stance." Of course it doesn't. Secularism assumes a generic definition. This affords a convenience that doesn't require one to take a stance of any kind. And your notion that secularism exposes more views is a blatant misdirect. The Secular Body thrives to sterilize alternative points of view as vigorously as Theologians. Make no mistake. FYI I am secular but I am no fool and will make no other a fool either.
@KaptinObvious My full statement, if you don't quote-mine, was that Secularism (i.e. a secular government) would be more tolerant of alternative views than a Theocracy. Secularists don't deny the access of knowledge of alternative viewpoints. Instead the stance is to keep individuals' relgious beliefs out of social and polictical arenas. People may choose to pray in church, but don't force my children to pray in school. The U.S. has a problem blurring this line.
@TeachScience101 I agree with your statement regarding the mechanics of secularism. However the vocal and high profile subscribers are fully and wholeheartedly dismissive to any point of view that uses religion as source material. And your point that Theology denies access to alternative views would contradict the most recent statement issued from the Vatican that contraceptives in some practices are legitimate.
@KaptinObvious The Vatican HAD to go back on its previous position to save itself from further embarrassment. They HAD to do so because what their previous position was, was a demonstrable falsehood.
@TeachScience101 Muslim nations have the highest crime rate per capita if you rate them at the same morality check as Christians. The fact that you would cite that without thought or the sincere desire for accuracy or global synchronicity forces me to believe you are a pontificator and not a soul looking for truth. I only give time to the latter.
@KaptinObvious You stated that " faith has kept in check the socially borderline moral members." I simply stated that the faithful show an actual higher rate of crime with Christian nations as an example. More secular countries with higher rates of non-belief have lower crime rates. Once again you show more flare than substance to your comments. Defend your statement and stay focused.
@KaptinObvious As methods of recording crime differs around the world comparisons are difficult, but in my experience crime is lower in Muslim countries. Alcohol being a significent factor. Just a thought.

It's been well publicized that almost all of the wealth in the USA is concentrated in a tiny percentage of wealthy people. Something like 50% of the wealth is in 1% of the population.
I wonder if the same thing has happened with education/intelligence so that "dumbness" is in the majority. But their vote counts as much as anyone's. So that would lead to bad choices at the polls where dumbasses swallow the BS put forward by the politicians and elect guys like Bush.... TWICE!!!
@MegatronYES During the school year I'm a rare mammal. I'm more active during the summer and Aron is still trying to convince me to start doing videos instead of the more ancient form of podcasting. :)
As an outsider I would just be conncerned that there is a closing window of opportunity here - once the indoctrinated children start finishing school their ingrained prejuduces will be harder to change as adults.
Aaron, you're a respectable man. Please, please do not offer dribble. Starting off with references to Tom Cruise, expanding onward to lack of reality . . . This is not the respect-worthiness I've come to admire in you; I could not even watch the remainder of that video.
'Twas obvious how hard it was for you to do that. Sorry you had to become involved.
@AronRa on your point about "believing things into existence"
what of the experience of, say for instance, knowing the Earth is round, (before evidence) and having that belief drive you towards finding the proof, or inspiring others to search for it? A more relevant example: I believe we have the ability to "heal" our dental cavities. We are indoctrinated to believe the opposite. How would I discover evidence without first believing enough to test this idea?
@Asylumescapee69 You are using the word believe in an incorrect way. Based upon observations, people expected that the world was indeeed a sphere [not round] as opposed to being flat. This was based upon observation. They then tested that hypothesis.
@Asylumescapee69 You don't have to believe an Idea you just have to be willing to accept the principles it is based on in order to continue to research it. The principles usually being past experiences or things you've already learned through evidence and experiment. If a principle or the idea itself is flawed then testing your idea will usually lead to failure, so you either analyze and discover your mistake or move on. No requirement to believe an Idea until you have obtained proof.
Most people require belief in something to invest energy into it. Say for instance I believe there is gold buried in my yard. It's quite possible that I could dig every day without finding it or giving up on the belief that continuing to dig is worthwhile. This is both the power of and the potential liability of belief. And we're talking about profound belief. Like, God told you it is true and you trust God to know. (How might either occur? I may have the answers to that...)
@Asylumescapee69 I know what most people do and in unimportant cases it is expected my point is stop doing that for important beliefs. Important beliefs should have a foundation too them. If a belief is important then turn it into a hypothesis and put it too the test. Even the silliest of beliefs have to have some kind of foundation too them. When they are important beliefs we need to make sure that foundation is solid.
David Bradley, a board member stated: "Evolution is not a fact. Evolution is a theory and, as such, cannot be proved. Students need to be able to jump to their own conclusions."
"If I could believe whatever I want, I certainly wouldn't believe what I do" This statement just blew my mind. So many people, it seems to me, just believe what they want . Probably because it takes too much time to think about what is really true.
This "The Secret" and "positive thinking" from thin air what u want stuff is probably "NWO" getting u to just sit on ur ass "believing" when they collect the green stuff laughing all the way to the bank.
@AloofPeregrine California look at what they voted in as governer a man that can't even speak english correctly. Florida you have three things Cubans, kids, and old folks, put 'em together you might find enough common sence to make George Bush and that's not saying much.
AronRa: Next time I'm in Texas, you're in Florida, or we're both in the same place at the same time, I'm going to buy you a drink or seven and see where the conversation goes.
Mostly accurate M.M. O'hare paraphrase: "What makes atheism dangerous is that if atheists can question the ultimate authority - God - they can question any authority."
In addition to feeding students nonsense for their heads, Texas is a national leader in school beatings. Teacher on student. Hundreds of thousands of officially reported cases. Parent on offspring numbers are much higher no doubt. The reason people feel compelled to beat kids is...?
Proverbs 23:13, 14 - Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. (Proverbs 13:24)
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. (Proverbs 19:18)
I think it goes deeper than that, that the practice pre-dates scriptures. Those verses indicate that violence toward kids had already become a more or less established norm.
You're sure right though that a heckuva lot of people since then have used those lines to justify their behavior. It's rare to come across a kid beater who needs much coaxing. Scriptural or not. But pretty decent try!
This was of course , as usual, extremely interesting and well voiced. The issues here in France do not come about....kids are taught science and maths and history. There was a very shameful part of French history when Pétain allied with the Nazis - but the kids are taught about it. Nobody wants to hide it under the carpet. America is very intriguing to watch - a Nation founded on a Secular government - does Sarah Palin understand this - no! I wish you all luck!
Well Will Smith didn't mean it int he way of "believe and do nothing about it and it will happen". He is an actor. The number 1 rule for actors and people who want to become top actors such as myself is you have to believe in yourself. If you believe you can do it, walk out and fail you have to be able to pick yourself up, learn from it and try again. But you need to believe in yourself first. Not believe "I am a top actor" but believe you can become one if you try.
Aron, good vid. I left Texas only a few days before the TFC meeting after living there fore 10+ years. Yeah, McLeroy and the other idiots were an embarrassment to the state and it was nauseating to have to pay taxes to support the schools and then see the BOE destroy the curriculum and infuse it with their political and religious views.
In the British education system we've had a good compromise in place for decades where we're taught religion, all mainstream religions, as a separate subject. It was always a good laugh learning about all the utter crap people actually believe.
If they want to teach creationism, it will lead to teaching religion in the classroom, and if that happens, which religion do you teach? Why couldn't they teach Islam, or Hindu, or Taoism, or Buddhism? What a crock of shit this whole thing is. Science is science, plain and simple, if you want to learn more about your religion or belief, go learn it in bible study. This is what happens when you let the moronic breed. We should neuter them.
@brmadman4455 "if you want to learn more about your religion or belief, go learn it in bible study." Good point. Also, as Matt Dilahunty pointed out on The Atheist Experience, if the schools in Texas ever taught a class on The Bible and its influence or some such course, the ones who would complain most loudly would be fundamentalist Christians who would state that it was not THEIR version of the Bible being taught.
@brmadman4455 My religion is the true one. I forget which one it is just for the moment, probably one of the main-stream Abrahamic ones, but whichever, I'm sure it's true.
It's nice to live in Rhode Island where religion is kept in the church and you'd get a quick smackdown trying to teach cretard nonsense in our classrooms. New England FTW!
@SearchBillHicks Eeww.. Have you even seen L. Ron Hubbard? It's NOT a pretty sight! I'd never go to bed with him even if I was paid for doing it! Never ever! D:
Aronra is right; the public is uninformed. They have kids to raise and bills to pay amd work to do; they are not going to be be thinking so much about what their childrens´ school ciricculum is. BUT if parents are shown 1) this is what we know about X subject and this is what the other side wants to teach or IS teaching your children I think most parents would be pissed off; no one likes being lied to.
Intellectual and educational issues aside, I couldn’t leave without mentioning the fantastic cleavage on show. WOW! That dear lady reminds me of my old biology teacher and why I chose biology A-level.
A true story that always brought a “titter” of amusement from the students when I divulged the reason why I started a career in biomedical sciences. If truth be known, I owe it all to a warm smile and fine pair of boobs.
Great vids, very interesting for someone from the UK to see what is happening in Texas. No wonder Prof. Dawkins is so distraught about the level of science education is the USA.
Dumbshades has learnt the original latin term for a logical fallacy (argumentum ad hominem) Unfortunately he doesnt understand that personal attacks arent always fallacious, especially if the reciever is a creatard. But anyway...
Well done Dumbshades, if you learn one word aday then maybe in 25 years you can put together a real conversation with real adults! But remember, you have to understand the context of the words you use too!
@ThickShades0 Excellent argument. Well done. Do you really have an overwhelming need to be shown to be stupid or are you just here to take the heat off of Shock of dross an Nephilimfreak?
@falchion49 puhahaha still being irrelevant dumbass? btw, i've got your PM. if your dogs are clever than you than you ought to learn from them. learn to bark properly first. LoLZzzz!!!
these videos further demonstrate how the majority of americans only care about entertainment. Their like a fat kid who won't stop crying and yelling because he's fat, but wont get up and do something about it. one would love for The US to be the greatest country in the world, but as long as people wont focus on the good of the nation that will never happen.
am I suppose to hate that chick? I mean seriously she seems like she's just trying to throw herself in the spotlight. Bitch if you have nothing productive to say shut up!
I can reiterate; I am interested in truth not belief. Being of sound mind and body to function in life is more important to me than delusion no matter how comforting.
@thickshadesResponse Just watched your stupid response video. If wishes were horses we would be up to our necks in horseshit . Which incidentally is all I've ever heard from you. He said he does not believe in what he wishes was true , how you make that to be " he does not believe what he says " ?
@grenangle he can believe all he wants about what to believe or not. truth is not defined by him. in other words, he doesn't know what the "truth" is yet he's crapping as if he know what it is. any truth for that matter. the rest of your crappos is ad hom. kids...
@ThickShades0 says" he can believe all he wants about what to believe or not. truth is not defined by him". No he can't , not if he wants to believe the truth, which as you correctly point out , is not defined by him. Your not worth more than ad hom you retard.
@grenangle listen carefully dumbass. Jesus Christ is the Truth. of course, you have to fill the rest of your comments with another crappy ad hom. lolz... how dumb art thee??!!
@ThickShades0 Was raised by a christian so I know enough about that thanks. Same person who told me about Darwin as it happens. So this actually has nothing to do with religion. Its about ignorance and denial of science. You creotard.
lolz... listen kiddo... you are appeal to your own ignorance. just because you think you know it all, it ain't mean other don't know what you "know." btw, i love science. do you mean evolution? "creotard" puhahahaha kids...
@ThickShades0 You've previously claimed to have a PhD. You've tried the misunderstood and suppressed academic route before. Yet at the same time as denying that you claim to be a 'professor' which is an academic achivement, of which having a PhD is a precursor and registered; unless you're so incredible you didn't need a PhD, which is what you previously claimed you had. What are you lying about and why do you feel the need to lie?
@falchion49 puhahaha... what a dumbass. because of your presumption i became a liar? listen kiddo, now you know. okay? lolz what a dumbass. you don't need a dumbass PhD to be a Professor. you dig or pig?

I wonder if the same thing has happened with education/intelligence so that "dumbness" is in the majority. But their vote counts as much as anyone's. So that would lead to bad choices at the polls where dumbasses swallow the BS put forward by the politicians and elect guys like Bush.... TWICE!!!
Explains a lot...

USBikeTour 1 year ago
@AronRa on your point about "believing things into existence"
what of the experience of, say for instance, knowing the Earth is round, (before evidence) and having that belief drive you towards finding the proof, or inspiring others to search for it? A more relevant example: I believe we have the ability to "heal" our dental cavities. We are indoctrinated to believe the opposite. How would I discover evidence without first believing enough to test this idea?
Asylumescapee69 1 year ago
@Asylumescapee69 You are using the word believe in an incorrect way. Based upon observations, people expected that the world was indeeed a sphere [not round] as opposed to being flat. This was based upon observation. They then tested that hypothesis.
asianlife53 1 year ago
@Asylumescapee69 You don't have to believe an Idea you just have to be willing to accept the principles it is based on in order to continue to research it. The principles usually being past experiences or things you've already learned through evidence and experiment. If a principle or the idea itself is flawed then testing your idea will usually lead to failure, so you either analyze and discover your mistake or move on. No requirement to believe an Idea until you have obtained proof.
jarjarbinks77 1 year ago
@jarjarbinks77
Asylumescapee69 4 months ago
@Asylumescapee69 I know what most people do and in unimportant cases it is expected my point is stop doing that for important beliefs. Important beliefs should have a foundation too them. If a belief is important then turn it into a hypothesis and put it too the test. Even the silliest of beliefs have to have some kind of foundation too them. When they are important beliefs we need to make sure that foundation is solid.
jarjarbinks77 4 months ago
@Asylumescapee69 If you already believe it before you have proof then it kind of defeats the purpose of having accurate beliefs.
jarjarbinks77 1 year ago
@Asylumescapee69 What you're describing is a "hypothesis" not a "belief".

The reason people feel compelled to beat kids is...?
wunwuntew 1 year ago
@wunwuntew
Paulginz 1 year ago
