  • You know, sadly... This is one of THE BEST STAR TREK FAN FILMS I'VE EVER SEEN! I'm not joking, I'm being totally serious. I find it amazing that a bunch of kids from the 70's managed to do better in... script, stage, fight scenes, and acting.

    Like, seriously. Good job!

  • I like this...A LOT!!!!!!

  • Great work, you guys were the O.G.s of Super 8 backyard scifi filmmaking! The fight scenes were surprisingly tough and well-choreographed!

  • i would love for our youth to take advantage of today's technology and follow this terrific example of creativity. How in the world did y'all do that with super 8?

  • You guys should make the next movie! Loved the fight scenes.

  • To cool guys...your fight scenes rocked...very fun to watch!

  • I love it! It's fantastic you saved this all these years!

  • fantastic. you should do a "Where are they now"... did any one of the kids go on to become a famous director?

  • @previewfilms Well, not exactly famous, but one is a director in LA.

  • star trek: the teen generation

  • Great Stuff - Real entertaining!

  • THIS IS REALLY GOOD

  • Dang, this makes me wanna make an episode today! This is awesome. Hysterical.

  • This is actually pretty epic

  • Thanks for posting this funny stuff. I enjoyed it. :)

  • you got a subscriber bro

  • Mr. Hampton you are my hero.

  • Thats very goood awesome

  • Great guys! I love the fighting scene. What are your jobs today?

  • Terrible

  • Nailed it.

  • Red guy always dies:)

  • has it occurred to anyone that this is probably viral marketing for J.J Abrams' new movie super 8? Its apparently shot around the same year the movie takes place and its shot by kids which is the basic set up of super 8. And its Star Trek so there is that connection too. J.J is the man.

  • @shawny2scrawny That was exactly what I was thinking... JJ relies heavily on marketing and special effects in place of originality and good screenplay writing. JJ sucks!

  • @Reverendjim1

He's an ideas man; the writer's he surrounds himself with arguably suck (Kurtzman/Orci).

  • @shawny2scrawny He is a writer too, & a terrible one. Not to mention the constant need to try to "stand out" with silly things like camera shake... No talent! Alfred Hitchcock had talent if you need a reference.

  • @Reverendjim1

Considering it's 2011, the fact that I'm in the 18-24 year-old demographic, and as someone who regularly invests his free time in researching dimensionality, I'd say J.J. Abrams is a better fit for what I want to experience in a story.

And I love Hitchcock. I grew up watching VHS tapes of The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho, Dial M, Mr and Mrs. Smith -- he's an incredible storyteller and director, just not exactly all-that-fresh.

  • @shawny2scrawny That's sad... JJ Abrams is unoriginal and devoid of substance, at best he is a marketeer who's targets look for flash & pomp over substance. Even at 16 I expected substance to a film. Though it need not be heavy it had to deliver on many levels of the genre was a true science fiction. Start Trek is a true science fiction JJ Abrams did not address that aspect at all.

  • @shawny2scrawny Star wars was an action fantasy film set in a mythical future with a great story full of intrigue and fun but it was not a science fiction film and it delivered in bounds for what it was. Lord of the Rings is a recent example of a film that "delivered" and it was an action fantasy set in a mythical past. The dialogue in JJ Abrams films sounds like the speak of poorly educated American youth vernacular. I mean "hey dude" seems to fit in with JJ Abrams films.

  • @shawny2scrawny the reason JJ films are produced this way is due to either, He has little or no talent, he markets to teenage youths who will buy anything flashy or both. I vote for both!

  • 122

  • This is rockin' diggin' the seventies home made trek

  • Ahhh the ultimate martial art...

    Shat-Fu!

  • Okaaaaay.

    That was actually pretty awesome.

I liked the Redshirt death. LOL

  • the best star trek fan film. this one has the least amount of cheese.....and no bad cheese.

  • i enjoyed that a lot. the actors was good, the costumes and location was great and the voiceover was mostly in sync with the original film. yay =]

  • Man this kid was good.

  • That was so stupid and nothing like star trek

  • COOL!

  • that was better than avatar. kudos!

  • A mash up of "Arena", "Shore Leave", "A Private Little War", and Day of the Dove."

  • This is not genuine, for a start there's no way they could have produced a soundtrack like that with 70's super 8 equipment plus there is a lack of splice jumps or joins in the film at each shot change to show that it has really been "cut" on film. The footage may have been shot in the 70's on super 8 or probably more likely recently but the editing and sound has definitely been crafted on more modern equipment proved by the end credits which have a smooth/ clean scratch free digital quality.

  • @burlearth It says in the description the voices were added 25 years later.

  • @bbmcrae All the "super 8 films" on this channel: King Kong, Alien etc. have been redone and re-edited with modern digital equipment, they originals would never be this tight looking/sounding.

  • @burlearth

    are you for real?

  • Could this be part of the viral marketing for the Abrams/Spielberg SUPER 8 movie?

  • The fight scene choreography should make some current Hollywood pros blush. It is really that good considering the source. Good job guys.

  • The fight scenes are great -- i wonder what these kids are doing now?

  • Too good.

  • Bravo! Well done, and done with the skill and enthusiasm of a pro. DO you have any more to show?

  • The fight scene is better than the ones in the original series :D

  • pure awesomeness! luv it :)

  • This was really entertaining.

  • Ha ha ha these kids are good I think they had a bit of cash in their pockets though to pull that off in the70's. I loved trek as a kid . Spock was my absolute hero growing up and back in the 70's with a bunch of thugs as "hero's" role models were few and a far between for a kid. So thanks Leonard Nimoy for making a screwed up and abusive child hood just a little more tolerable.

  • starleet2001 led me to this channel...Wow The whole thing is beautiful from sound effects to , special effects, everything nice work.

  • As a past Super 8 movie maker in the 1970s and a Trekkie/Trekker (depending on your fancy) AWESOME!

  • These kids are fantastic. Kudos to all of you.

  • And this is why we can't have Lawn Jarts....

  • Better then the real thing!

  • This video would feel more authentic if the production value didn't so completely outdo the original series.

  • These kids should've been The Next Generation

  • I made a youtube account just to comment on this!

FYI I never watched star trek at all. My dad was really into the star trek with Picard and my friends loved the Kirk era but I was always a star wars geek.

    Anyway THIS IS FREAKING EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best video I have seen on the internet in a year! This is amazing oldschool editing and very funny and entertaining! I watched it 4 times before I commented!

    .........

  • @RHCPsuicide

Im gonna post this on 4chan and reddit and hopefully you guys get the accolades you deserve!!! Two Thumbs up!

  • You kids were really well versed in Shatner-Do. Congrats

  • this is the most epic thing ive seen in a long wile

  • Brilliant! Great video!!

  • Brilliant! Please tell me you guys went on and made it in the entertainment industry!

  • Fantastic!

  • The fight scenes in this clip are better than the fight scene in an actual episode of star trek, search for "Worst fight scene ever" uploaded by Yaemes and you'll lol

  • Great work!

  • I love how you guys voices changed :P

  • The film makes it look especially cinematic. Well done!

  • This is better than Phase II !!

  • I think the best thing about this is how much better the fight scenes are than the ones in the actual show.

  • Surprisingly great! Where in Hyannis is this? Kalmus Park Beach?

  • i love the fact that the red shirt eats it in the first 30 seconds.

  • @danisawred They always die first.

  • This is great!

  • this is better than the actual original star trek show!!!!! ;-P

  • Sharing memories in a whole new way lol! Who would of thought back when you filmed this the audience you would have today?

  • LOVE IT

  • I've made home-made movies in super-8 back in the 70s. It's very difficult. You have to do all your shooting, then wait for about a week to get the developed film back from the drug store before you can see how it came out. The fight scenes are way better in this than in some of the high-end Trek fan films we see now days. This is very entertaining!

  • Extremely good effort by the kids.

  • LoL! That was great!!!

  • Wow-this is really amazing! Great stuff!!

  • All that was missing was a good looking female. I guess the boys didn't have any girlfriends yet.

  • I shot lots of Super 8 in the early 70s. Mine never had a plot like this one has. Very good!

  • Awesomeness! I think most kids in the 70s/80s wanted to do something like this, but few of us did.

  • The headbutt! Such cool kids - our movies were much lamer.

  • wow, nicely done !

  • If all kids were that creative.

  • Excellent fight sequence!

  • Great stuff again! I would have been well up for lending a hand or getting involved when I was a kid with stuff like this. The fight scenes were especially well done for kids too. Excellent!

  • @Modmart

You can always join the Star Trek New Voyages Phase 2 team and help us make some episodes now. :-)

  • This needs more views. A LOT more views.

  • AWESOME!!! Much better than the Super 8 flick I posted here on YouTube (I am shamed, man...seriously...;) Post more if you have 'em, this and your 'Kong' one were very entertaining!

  • cool!! 8mm is great!

  • wow you guys were good! Please tell me with all the advantages you had in life you became something in life =)

  • Probably just idiots like yourself posting on Youtube. =)

  • This makes me actually like Star Trek. If I could only block out everything ever related to William Shatner. Great job by these punks !

  • Pump your brakes kid, that man is a national treasure!

  • Audio editing really brings this little film to life! Nice little piece here. Kudos to the Kids!

  • Did this fillum receive any awards? Good fight scene.

  • I love this! So well done for a bunch of "kids!"

  • This is amazingly awesome!
