  • Simply marvellous!!

  • Will you be my friend? :p I mean goddamnit dude! you are SICK!!!! You're incredible and you seem to have the most chill friendly energy too. If I eat a small piece of your brain, can I play like you? I'll give you 50 grand (not all at once of course) for a paltry 1 oz of your brain (right hemisphere naturally). Seriously, I was blown away when I stumbled across this. I am emailing you for a copy. Thank you.

  • Amazing! This is my favourite tune ever.

I struggle enough with the basic chords in this song :-)

  • Awesome.

  • man i can listen to ur playin all day, so so talented, as well as many hours of practice to become this good. truelly gifted.

  • Very cool! Tough one but very interesting! Great job as always Jake!

  • Learned that song when I was 14... not easy, stupid hard chords in it. You are awesome

  • Tab?

  • nice work! Sweet guitar.

  • If, while listening to this, I glance at your name and quickly look away, it says Django Reinhardt. Just sayin'.

  • I decided to stop playing guitar after seeing you :)

    You're a genious.

  • Absolutely fantastic! I love the way you pick out the melody whilst keeping the chords and the rhythm going.

  • sweet

  • That was fantastic! Thanks for sharing your talent.

  • Listening to this I found myself welling up! Then I remembered Alan Paton's quote: "There is so much grief in our land, that when one encounters joy/beauty it sets one to weeping." Thanks, this does it.xx

  • Thanks so much for the nice comment!

  • At least once a week a need a "Dan" fix and this just hit the spot big time!!

  • that was absolutely fantastic

  • really nice playing. thank you for posting

  • You are the perfect example for kids that this is not the gear (Ibanez low range in this case) which made the musician but his work, his talent and his sensibility

    Respect

  • Very nice. I play this on the keys. Fagen and Becker are an awesome song writing team. Loved your version.

  • Sweeeet and smoooooth. Very Nice!

  • Thanks very much!

  • Did you play the rhythm and the chords at the same time? If so, you are friggin unbelievable.

  • Thanks! Yes, this is a solo live performance (no overdubs or such). However, there are many guitarists out there who are far better than me in being able to sound like two or more guitars... If I have any distinction at all, I hope it is with my choices of tunes, of specific harmonies, my jazz improv, etc. I'll keep practicing and hope to improve. Thanks again!

  • What is it about this song that is so somber and and so beautiful at the same time. I can't seem to express it better than that. Beautifully depressing..I don't know..lol....hard to explain.

  • You do one of my favorite songs the justice it deserves man, your awesome...

  • great video, i have an ibanez archtop, (as73) great guitars

  • cool version but this one instrument, or any instrument, can hardly attain the harmonic richness of le steely

  • Very Cool. Why the blue tape on the pickup?

  • Thanks! The pickup is missing so it's just covering the hole...

  • Very cool! Thanks for posting.

  • Hi Jake it's me Adam from New Zealand - I have been off work with a crook knee for a week & a bit & spent just about every waking hour on Deacon Blues - I finished it and have memorised every single chord shape - the bridge was a bit tough and I still got to improvise a lot better but its bassically all there. I am amazed how quickly I got through this one when I am not distracted with work. Just cleaning up my performance now. Thanks excellent tutorage you've given me - Adam

  • It might be at that....I always played it in Db, but it's been a long time since I played along with the cd. Been working on some new recordings, and super busy here with house/work/family. Will be setting up the camera soon, though. Loved your be-bop vid, btw. You have put in your time on the neck.......

(I've been on those blogs too....interesting times. My wife wants to start packing!)

  • Bravo j.r.

One of my favorite tunes ever, and a great arrangement. Good move on the transposition. I do this in the original key, and I was like - wtf! Beautiful.

  • Thanks, please post something soon, I love your style. On the second point, I haven't checked lately but I thought this was the original key... Well, if I'm wrong it was not intentional. Glad you liked it though!

  • Schweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Really very nice.

  • Another instant classic Jake! Thanks for sharing! See you soon.

  • That's a great one again, Jake! I dig the ease you perform these with. :-)

  • Fantastic! Man, your awful good....
