That remembers me to my own childhood in a completely different boyschoir at that time. My father often compared us with the WSK followed by complaining of our so-called "non-musicality". But the vienna choir boys were at the climax of their musical skills during the 1970s. Btw, who is Peter Jelositz in this formation?
I have never seen this one, my favorite Polka.....you made my day! Fine days of the WSK, what a great harmony! Thank you very much for sharing this fantastic video!
The boys who appear in this video are very lucky to have had the kind of discipline and teamwork that leads to success in adult life. I think the current "relaxed" atmosphere at Augarten is nice in the short term, but does not set the traces for a lifetime of achievement that can only be achieved at this age.
Oh, and they sang so well in 1973! The current choirs only occasionally reach this level.
I have to wonder, if the boys in this video were interviewed, if they would agree with me?
Some would, some would not. I read an article in which some of the former boys complained about the hard und unjust punishments of which some particularly suffered. Some said they would never send their children there.
Unfortunately it might be two years ago, I could not say if it was in Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Der Spiegel or other. I remember the tenor was that in some closed organizations other things than just discipline takes place. We had recent painful proof of that because of revelations what happened in famous schools in Germany; suppression, abuse, rape by teachers, priests etc.
@silverbud You are right, that is an always c u r r e n t and very sad talking point in Germany...:( But I believe that such things happen everywhere in the world.
It´s always not unproblematically to send children in boarding schools or homes.
The Vienna Boys´Choir also is involved but not currently in such stressful events.
Perhaps you can find information about that at the website of VBC.

Hi Maestro, thank you for your again knowledgeable comment !
Perhaps we will have luck and a member of the 1973-choir will write a comment on that video ?
