  • I like to find this one sounds great

  • Do you still have this machine Louie?

  • Are you familiar with another contemporary of Cal Stewart's, namely Charles Ross Taggart?

He recorded about 25 records for Edison, Victor, and Columbia during the same time period.

Taggart was a traveling fiddler/humorist/entertainer who went all over the U.S.

    Lived in Vermont.

  • That is magical!!!

  • Cal Stewart started recording his stories for Edison. He was the first truly successful comedian to record records. Edison made Stewart famous, and likewise Stewart made Edison a lot of money. As the story goes, when the flat disc records came on the market, Mr Stewart began recording his Uncle Josh stories for labels like columbia, and victor. I've heard there was a lawsuit filed by Edison, but Stewart won, as this was long before recording contracts.

  • I think that is a fascinating bit of info!! I'm pretty sure I have some Cal Stewart on shellac around here somewhere!

  • I always considered this record to be a slap in the face of Edison, by Cal Stewart!

  • the album is hanuted! destroy it immediately!

  • I grew up listening to my grandfather's Uncle Josh 78s on an ancient Victrola. Still have some of his stuff on the Aretino lable

  • "To hear all the good music in the world... I bought her a Victor Victrolie!" Does anybody remember Cal Stewart? I love this! Thanks for the "Uncle Josh!"
