You just don't have omnipotent conscious control of your thoughts. You still HAVE control, you're brain is merely mostly run subconsciously. Though I suppose if you're speaking more abstractly, saying that the "self" is only the self aware part of the mind, then that's a whole other set of discussions.

"free will" is just a artificial philosophical concept.that humans created by perceiving a "self" and "choice". By defining those values, one determines "free will"'s supposed existence. Even if everything is predetermined, humans themselves act upon an enclosed system dictated by "will", free or not. Even if it's made to choose, it still chose.

I.E. it exists only if you define it within parameters in which it exists, (and vice versa) as absolute fact. "Choice" is in itself an artificial construct generally defined as "self" determining it's "fate". However these in themselves are artificial constructs as well. If you are going to take a completely nihilistic stance, then "you" are an "illusion".

Color, for example, when viewed at base levels, is an illusion. But does that mean red doesn't exist? The theory accepts that if something exists in an enclosed system, it exists. In other word's "choice" even it if is predetermined, exists, so long as the choice itself is made without knowledge it's predetermined.
