  • orr got a gash on his face from Cullen's helmet. they smacked heads

  • Damn, now that was a hit. Colton Orr really smashed him. Go Rangers.

  • I got the picture after the 9th replay.

  • Orr was going for a big hit and at the last second he realized that it was going to be too big of a hit and tried to hold up but it was too late. The slow motion replay showed that they hit heads and that's how Cullen was knocked out.

  • yeah so he's doing him a favor by giving him a concussion and potentially fucking up the rest of his career....

  • i'm no orr fan,but i don't think it was a dirty hit,his hands went up 2 protect himself, damage was done when he hit the ice....

  • y no orr fan?

  • because hes a really dirty player who takes things too damn far sometimes

  • the last comment was directed to joeshow3x's comment, I know that matt cullen might of had his head down and the penalty is controversial but you can't say somebody deserves something like that. i like fights and i like hits but its stupid to say he deserved that

  • it was his face (jaw) hitting the ice the knocked him out he shoulda had his head up

  • Cory stillman is a little bitch, when Brooks orpik injured him 2 years ago, he wanted to apologize and call him up, he asked mark reechi for his number, stillman is such a little fag he said wouldnt accept it anyway, what a little bitch. fuck the canes

  • that was erik cole dumbass. and he didn't want an apology because he knew orpik didn't do it on purpose and it was part of the games. won't you read up on it before you run your dumb mouth. plus show some respect he had a broken neck he could have been parallelized. the player I hate the most is lecavelier but i would never want to see him get hurt like that.

  • that is why you always keep your head up. if cullen's head is up, he sees orr coming and softens the blow a little bit. clean hit and poor play by cullen.

  • it wasn't that dirty... he just had he's head down

  • lit. up.

  • clean. clean clean clean. i agree that a shoulder would have been much more devastating, awesome point to pose to all of u who claim it as dirty...i am a diehard flyers fan and diehard ranger-hater, but this hit was clean, puck was there, hands may have been up, but it was a nice check when it comes down to it.

  • Not clean? Orr wouldn't be the one to be a dirty player, especially against Cullen. Cullen was a friend in the Ranger locker room last year. Orr was trying to protect himself out of everything that happened. Just because Cullen went down does not mean it is a dirty hit.

  • For all of you saying that wasn't a clean hit just imagine how much worse it would have been if it had been a so called "clean hit" in your minds with his shoulder instead of his gloves/forearms. A shoulder to the head would have been much more devastating. Unfortunate that Cullen got injured but that was a clean play, there would be no issue with the hit if Cullen had bounced right back up.

  • there was nothing clean about it.

  • They both took a hard hit..but it was cheap on the Ranger guy to line em up and go so high..!

  • Both of their heads were knocked back. Clean hit plus accidental head-to-head contact.

  • Clean hit by Orr , Cullen had his head down and paid for it, keeping your head up in hockey is a golden rule. Also "Colton Orr's hit that knocked Carolina's Matt Cullen unconscious and broke his nose Wednesday will not result in a fine or suspension as NHL VP Colin Campbell ruled it unworthy of a hearing or review." -Toronto Star

  • clean hit.

  • ehhh i have seen worse hits, his hands were a little high, but the other guy had his head down, so their both at fault really

  • it was cullen own stupid fault for cutting across the ice like that

  • clean hit

  • I think Commie would have won that if it wasn't for his finger. I just wish players wouldn't hit other players like that. i know it's part of the game but i still think it's wrong to hurt others like that. yes i am a Hurricanes fan.

  • it did look kind of cheap though got the hands up but it was cullen fault any ways

  • No fine, no suspension, now STFU!

  • Perfectly league hit. Ya it looked bad but not a cheap shot. So all you whinny little pussies that don't like fighting and hitting stay away from our sport and go back to soccer where if someone brushes up against you ya act like you've been shot.

  • thats fucked up.. you shouldn't beable to hurt people like that, not the shitty fight but the take down.. wots the point in being so cruel and cowardly, on ice as well im sure the pussy hole aint so brave of the ice, he has to get cheap shots

  • at worst, it was a forearm to the face... clean hit... and i don't think orr has ever been a dirty player...

  • Besides the follow through with the hands, this was a clean hit. Cullen had the puck and had his head down. Good hit.

  • Heads Up Slick. This isn't the Swedish Elite league!!!

  • When I played hockey, i was always taught keep your head up. It looks clean. I hate when someone get knocked out bc as you can see from the video his chin slams the ice. Never a good thing. This sport is alot more fun than boringball (baseball)

  • From the Daily News, "Colton Orr's hit that knocked Carolina's Matt Cullen unconscious and broke his nose Wednesday will not result in a fine or suspension as NHL VP Colin Campbell ruled it unworthy of a hearing or review." So all you cry ass's can shut up now.

  • that is the correct ruling..

  • The classless Ranger anouncers try to play down the deliberate elbow to the head. Just another reason to hate all NY sports.

  • A deliberate elbow to the head? Get some glasses!

  • And this from a Raiders fan...what a joke!

  • Clean hit.

  • When i watched the game on a tiny plane screen it looked vicious but after watching it several times on youtube Cullen was flying at orr with his head down and it seemed orr just put his hands up and Cullen collapsed. Im not a Rangers fan or a Canes fan, so that is my neutral point of view.

  • thats what happens when you skate across the middle of the rink with your head down...betcha he wont do that again...it was a good hit...

  • Clean hit...Orr could have train tracked him but rather just let the poor guy run into him. There was nothing he could have done to soften the blow. A class hit actually.

  • clean hit

cullen should learn to keep his fuckin

head up especially when your on the ice with orr

  • they blindsided each other. Orr didnt wans to hurt him

  • you are a moron.

  • Wow, beat up two dudes in less than 45 seconds.

  • clean hit

  • damn!

  • holy shit!! lol

  • I replayed it and I think it's a good hit. 1:16 pretty much shows it.

  • That guys just got lit up...as far as I'm concerened it was a clean hit.

  • Boom

  • haha he got flattend on that hit!

  • no shit

  • commodore just stepped up..im not saying hes a beast..he just did the right thing for a questionable hit.

  • Colton Orr os a god danm BEAST

  • Knock a guy out with a clean hit, then win the fight...classic.

  • There was no elbow. The hit was clean. Cullen shouldn't have had his head down. If you do, you have to realize you're gonna get knocked on your rear end.

  • well all i know is that ORR left with a bloodied face..and his hands were up alittle high.

  • Orr's eye was split open in a fight with Brashear last week, Commodore didn't do any damage. He is bleeding from his helmet coming down on it. Commodore is not the fighter people think he is.

  • Orr was bleeding from Cullen's helmet...Commodore never touched him!

  • Clean hit? No way. The ref gave him 5 for interference plus a game misconduct. You don't get those for clean hits.

  • Your right elmo. I've never seen a ref make a bad call either. IF Cullen doesn't get hurt there is no call. Neither one of the refs had there arm up. It was clean and he won't be suspended.

  • Cullen had the puck a split second before he got leveled. That's not interference.

  • I WAS THERE!

  • wow good to know

  • I was at the game. Didn't get a great view of the hit but seeing Orr beat Commodore was great. Seeing the replay, the hit wasn't all that bad. He got his arm a little to high, but it's not like he deserves 20 games like some morons suggested. We all went nuts and gave an ovation after the 5 minute penalty was killed, what a great game.

  • ive been analyzing this video. wish i went to the game, i'll be at the game on sunday!

i agree, but the thing is if his head wasn't low, orr's arms wouldn't have been so high. he shouldn't be suspended as his gloves didn't go into his face. CLEAN HIT!

  • You're right, clean hit, Cullen had his head down. It's hockey! I haven't seen a hit like that since Scott Stevens (of the EVIL New Jersey Devils!) retired.

  • clean hit, hopefully he is ok. just because your hands are up and his head is down looking at the puck like a newb does not mean this was a dirty hit.

he could have hip checked but ppl put their hands up to defend themselves--natural reaction. cullen would have done the same if he knew what was coming. GO RANGERS!

  • John and Tripp (Cane's commentators) thought it should have been called a clean hit, but nonetheless, the power play sucks and nothing happened. Hopefully Cullen will be ok. Can't lose 2 of the best players in 2 games, can we?

  • An open ice hit on a man looking down is perfectly fine in my book. I've been a hockey fan since age 3 and have played many years of hockey. But Orr finished his check off with his arms a little bit high. When you put your forearm/elbows in the area of a players head, that's a cheap hit. He could have easily had just as big of a hit had he lead with a shoulder or even hip checked him.

  • I was at this game, Orr must be scared if he has to put his hands up when he hits. Its crap that he did that to Cullen, one of Carolina's best players. I'm a Ranger fan but I hate Orr doing this. It could of been avoided.

  • Your right, it could have been avoided if Cullen was skating with his head up. He wasn't and he got pasted because of it.

  • Agreed. It wasn't a nice thing to see, but when you skate across the ice like that with your head turned, after making a pass, you are inviting someone to label you.

    Hope he is OK.

  • how could it have been avoided? not hit the cullen? its part of the game. cullen deserved it and orr did his job. /end of story

  • clean hit, he had the puck, he was looking down at the puck, orr wrecked him and if orr was a dirty player he would of killed commodore at 23 seconds

  • That was totally clean. I said that when I saw it live and I say it again after watching it a couple of times. Clean hits like that are a part of the game and should NEVER be outlawed. Your taught from a young age to look for guys skating with their heads down, just like Cullen was there, and make them pay for it.

  • You're taught to lay out people that are not looking? They TEACH you to blind side these people with hits like that? Wow. Real sportsmanlike conduct there. That's like driver's ed teachers teaching the students to look for people fixing their hair, changing their music, talking on their cell phone, and crash into them.

  • you cant compare hockey to driving a car. its a physical sport and you need to protect yourself. u dont skate through open ice with the puck and your head down. your just asking for it. ive been playing hockey since i was 8yrs old and u learn very early not to do that either.

  • this guy said "20 games".. what are you kidding me.. guys make worse hits like that all the time and get like 2 games if they even get suspended at all.. it looked fairly clean anyway.. matt cullen shouldn't be looking down.. this is no different than that hit that brent burns put on petr prucha, except for the fact that cullen's head slammed the ice harder than prucha's.. and brent burns didnt even get a penalty

  • exactly

  • its a clean hit for sure.

  • Hits like this should be outlawed, Orr knew that his head was down, this was totally unecessary, he didn't have to hit him, this is a similiar hit that ended Pat LaFontaine's career. Cullen probably got a concussion from this. Orr should be suspended for 20 games.

  • ok Islander fan

  • relax idiot...hitting is part of the game..if you go skating around not protecting yourself you deserve to be hit...it was a clean hit...bunch of pussies here..

  • Def. a clean hit...watch the video all the way through...they bump heads..Orr had three cuts from Cullen's helmet....Orr win in the fight

  • Love Orr, but that was a vicious hit...how does a guy get a 5 min major for interference however? That was the call, besides the 5 for fighting.

  • it looks like his stick and hands came up to the face

  • Orr will definitely get suspended

  • Looks like a clean hit. Follow through of arms make it look high but it was not. Heads up boys

  • Hit looked clean. Cullen was splayed out like Bambi on ice.

    Orr by TKO in fight.

  • Forearm to the face. That was a cheap shot.

If he led with a shoulder that would have been clean.

  • Keep your head up !!!

Nice hit looks a bit odd but not that dirty.

  • Typical dumb ass ranger move. Orr needs to be suspended.

  • Dayum, nice hit! He sure layed there flat.

  • looks like a clean hit!

  • ouch =/ kinda looks like the face to me though

  • Yeah, it was high, but it looks like it was all hands and maybe part of Orr's arm that got him in the face as he was going down.
