@mamakunem Naw, I was one of the cooks at the last restaurant I worked in. I was pretty much 'behind the scenes' on that note. Nothing wrong with the business, but it's the PEOPLE that I had an issue with. But that's just me.

Actually....yes you are right....all restaurants will give you a side order of anything, basically. BUT....the writer wanted to show the audience how he (Nicholson's character) turns everything into a protest....he is "anti-establishment"....and looks for any way to express it.....a way of saying..."I don't want to live by YOUR rules. If I were that waitress I would give him the toast only "after" I have shoved the bread into the crack of my ass first.....then smile as I serve it to him.

to MaxwellsAttourney: well...i'm glad someone agrees with me. For some reason no one else seems to see it. I grew up in this era.....I know it all too well....and remember how all the hippy kids of rich parents just thought this scene was great.....but they thought it was great for all the wrong reasons. It's great because of Nicholsons acting....but the concept of giving a hard time to a lady that has to be on her feet 8 hours a day pisses me off
