@ir10031981 ....Sorry, but the Houston Oilers are not the Houston Texans and never have been. I was a long time Oiler fan & ticket holder until they left town like thieves in the night. Houston Texans are in #1 in AFC South. Houston Oilers are now the Tennessee Titans and I'm glad they are in TN not TX. GO TEXANS!!!! Rot in h@%% Titans for the way you treated Houston fans.
The Dolphins fight song was written and composed by Lee Ofman. Ofman approached the Dolphins with it before the 1972 season because he wanted music to inspire his favorite team.
Local singer/songwriter Mack Hayes wrote and recorded the song "Luv Ya Blue" after the Oilers' 1978 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The song became the Oilers' rallying song the following year and Hayes and the Love Ya Blue band played at the Astrodome for each of the 1979 home games.
Could never get past the Steelers! Remember the one fan sticking the finger on Monday night football at the Astrodome late in the game as the were getting their ass kicked by the Steelers? That is when "Dandy" Don Meredith proudly proclaimed "there is one who boldly thinks Houston is number one". This was right after Meredith sang his trademark "Turn out the lights, the party's over..." that he always sings when one team convincingly kicks the other teams ass to an insurmountable point spread.
ok lets put one thing to bed the oilers did not want to move it was the owner that did. addams sucks. but they moved and i dont hold it against the players. stop hating on the texans.
@TEXANSnumONE it was written in the early 70's for the Dolphins. However, when the team showed little interest, someone with the Oilers liked the country beat and asked if they could use it. I recall hearing it pumping through the Astrodome back in the Dan Pastorini, Earl Campbell, "Luv ya Blue" days. Shortly after I started hearing it at the Orange Bowl as well. It seems the Oilers never bought the exclusive rights so both teams were able to use it.
I miss the Oilers! ! The Texans haven't done jack squat so far, but hopefully they are going to win AFC south this year so I guess that makes me happy.
Brings back a lot of memories of the 1980's for me even though I'm a Baltimore football fan. I went to college with Oliver Luck who is now the athletic director at WVU and played for the Oilers. His son Andrew plays for Stanford currently and could win the Heisman. Luv ya Blue!!
Before you guys kill each other as to who had it first, let me clear this up. In 1968 a man went to the NFL's publication team and offered every team his song for a base 8,000. You could just substitute your team's city and team name into the song, and it would work for anybody. Houston and Miami were the only ones to take the offer.

@wafflesareamazing813 yeah, but this version is way better... and besides your stupid fight song is now that dumb jimmy buffet crap you smug pricks insist on doing every Sunday... maybe that's why you haven't won a home game in over a year. @kadiakaress Oh. Wow. My stupid fight song, and my team? Why don't you ask me who my favorite team is? The Eagles are my favorite, and the Lions are a close second. Been that was since '95. So you can shove your arrogant, condescending comment up your ass, my friend.

@Tvideogame The Dolphins copied my grandmother. She used to hunt for fish in the gulf and damage sharks with her long nose when they would get too close to human swimmers.

@StanBennet But I like the Titans (don't like the name but it begins with a T for TN so whatev) And I LOVE the Texans logo..its a bull, its a TX its BOTH!!
I'm glad they're not around any more. Not in a bad way, but they're just such a cool team, and I would've hated them if they're still around (Bengals fan here). In fact, the oilers are still around in some way, they're the last team the Bengals beat in the playoffs! Lol.
Whoever the moron who said the Titans should use this, you can take your backstabbing owner of the Titans and burn in hell. The Titans will never have the same support the Oilers had when Bum Phillips was the coach. Yeah, he was a hick, but he was our hick. To bad Wade comes up short of his fathers legacy. For those who claim he never won the big one. He would have if it wasn't for that POS Bud Adams. You F'n Dolphins fans can also bite the big one, we had it first.
@bojanglesjr10 UMMM actually, the Miami Dolphins had it first. We had it in 1972 you guys stole it in 1978 after you were humiliated by the Steelers in the playoffs. Sucks to be you right now doesnt it? LMFAO good luck with the Texans xD
Local Houston singer/songwriter Mack Hayes wrote and recorded the song "Luv Ya Blue" after the Oilers' 1978 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dolphins Fight song was written and composed by Lee Ofman. Ofman approached the Dolphins with it before the 1972 season because he wanted music to inspire his favorite team. The fight song would soon serve as a good luck charm for the Dolphins that season.
For the uneducated Houston people, 1972 came before 1978
Dan Pastorinni, Earl Cambell, Mike Renfro. Tony Fritch....The best DAMNED....team with more support from Houston, Texas then ANY other team or city could have ever dreamed of. Go OILERS. And thank you for the memories.
This is a classic song and I am proud that I sang it during those “Luv u Blue” days - No blackberry, No Internet, No Computers. Houston TX had what was called good ole "Blue Law" - We were all off from work on Sundays, and were free to go to the Astrodome and see the Houston Oilers play. In addition, I am proud to say that I sang this corny song in the car or Bus all the way to the Dome, in which I love!!
The day we lost our beloved team was a very sad one.
Hate on them all you want, but the Oilers were the only REAL Football team to ever play in Houston. The Texans will never be the Oilers, and as much as I hate to say it the Titans are just not the Oilers.
@TheHouseOfPa1n I have to agree with you, friend - the Titans just are not the Oilers, and as far as I'm concerned, the Texans, no matter how good they are, they're just a bill of goods.
I hate to tell you but this song was "stolen" from the Miami Dolphins who first aired it when they went undefeated in 1972. Since then, even football announcers don't know what they're talking about when t hey refer to it as the Houston Oiler's song. Get your facts straight before posting stuff.
@telman349 You're right. Years ago I must admit that I thought it was the other way around and then I saw an old film of Dolphins fans singing the song and yes, I also have heard TV announcers getting it backwards, but you are correct.
@IcePackie Actually, ammend that, can't hate this one unless you can't appreciate good music. I'm not even an Oilers fan (Steelers fan actually), but this is one of the best football songs there is (musically speaking even better than Here We Go Steelers, and I'm a bit of a Steelers homer). Houston Oilers definitely had a great song.
I remember tight end Dave Casper catching a pass in the flat in a late-1980 game against the Cleveland Browns and bulling his way past linebacker Robert L Jackson for the touchdown. This is what this song reminds me of. In his powder blue Oiler jersey in the Astrodome.
If you don't have a soft spot for this song it only means you're too young to remember the glory days of the Columbia Blue in the Dome.
I'll never have the fondness for the Texans I had for the Oilers. No one has been able to explain to me why Cleveland kept the rights to 'Browns' while Houston lost the Oilers and Baltimore their Colts.
@Sierra688 Who knows...they should've been able to ressurect the Oilers, but that's business, and I'm an English major, not math whiz... ;)
Thank God I never have to worry about my Niners losing their name like that...I mean, the TITANS? Not a bad name, not at all, but it just sounds weird when you know the team used to be so classic, so comfortably classic as the Houston Oilers, or even as the Tennessee Oilers..."Titans" makes it sound more like an expansion team, and killing Ol' Blue. :(
To all those who blame Bud Adams (who is a classless douchbag, he wouldn't even argue that point) please remember that the citizens of Houston had THREE opportunities to keep the Oilers. Three years in a row they voted against a new stadium. The 'Dome was in such bad shape by 96 that the Oilers nearly had to forfeit a game due to field conditions (there was a three foot hole under the turf in one endzone)
Houstonians f'ed over the Oilers, so Bud F'ed 'em back. Seemed fair to me. Miss Ya Blue
They are what?

I'm glad they're not around any more. Not in a bad way, but they're just such a cool team, and I would've hated them if they're still around (Bengals fan here). In fact, the oilers are still around in some way, they're the last team the Bengals beat in the playoffs! Lol.

Used to love the oilers, never got back into the NFL after they left. It's not the same

dcunc1975 1 year ago
Whoever the moron who said the Titans should use this, you can take your backstabbing owner of the Titans and burn in hell. The Titans will never have the same support the Oilers had when Bum Phillips was the coach. Yeah, he was a hick, but he was our hick. To bad Wade comes up short of his fathers legacy. For those who claim he never won the big one. He would have if it wasn't for that POS Bud Adams. You F'n Dolphins fans can also bite the big one, we had it first.
bojanglesjr10 1 year ago
@bojanglesjr10 UMMM actually, the Miami Dolphins had it first. We had it in 1972 you guys stole it in 1978 after you were humiliated by the Steelers in the playoffs. Sucks to be you right now doesnt it? LMFAO good luck with the Texans xD

YOU FAG, HOUSTON HAD THIS FIGHT SONG FIRST.
ohdoh666 1 year ago
@ohdoh666 Miami had it in 72 1st

Not a Titans fan but today, for some reason, this song kept popping into my head. Nothing like an Oilers vs Cowboys game to bring back the memories.

TheHouseOfPa1n 1 year ago
@TheHouseOfPa1n I have to agree with you, friend - the Titans just are not the Oilers, and as far as I'm concerned, the Texans, no matter how good they are, they're just a bill of goods.
Houston Oilers forever. Thanks.

I hate to tell you but this song was "stolen" from the Miami Dolphins who first aired it when they went undefeated in 1972. Since then, even football announcers don't know what they're talking about when t hey refer to it as the Houston Oiler's song. Get your facts straight before posting stuff.
telman349 1 year ago
@telman349 You're right. Years ago I must admit that I thought it was the other way around and then I saw an old film of Dolphins fans singing the song and yes, I also have heard TV announcers getting it backwards, but you are correct.
2014cwajts71 1 year ago
@telman349 What's worse is that they rammed it down our throats five times on Monday Night Football in 1978...

Classic song, can't hate this one its a classic unless you hated the Oilers.
IcePackie 1 year ago 4
@IcePackie Actually, ammend that, can't hate this one unless you can't appreciate good music. I'm not even an Oilers fan (Steelers fan actually), but this is one of the best football songs there is (musically speaking even better than Here We Go Steelers, and I'm a bit of a Steelers homer). Houston Oilers definitely had a great song.
MVillani1985 1 year ago
As if I didn't hate the Oilers enough without this song.

I remember tight end Dave Casper catching a pass in the flat in a late-1980 game against the Cleveland Browns and bulling his way past linebacker Robert L Jackson for the touchdown. This is what this song reminds me of. In his powder blue Oiler jersey in the Astrodome.

wildwildwest1414 1 year ago
If you don't have a soft spot for this song it only means you're too young to remember the glory days of the Columbia Blue in the Dome.
I'll never have the fondness for the Texans I had for the Oilers. No one has been able to explain to me why Cleveland kept the rights to 'Browns' while Houston lost the Oilers and Baltimore their Colts.
Sierra688 1 year ago
