I was once followed by a group of men in a car while walking to a friends house. They slowed and asked if I wanted a ride, and they weren't asking to be polite. What amazed me was that I wasn't dressed up or anything. Just jeans and a sweatshirt.
I agree with you! Recently I was walking with by 3 year old twin girls into a shop and a guy hung out of his window whistling at me calling me a 'milf' and what not. And everyone on the street looked at me as if I was a horrible tramp or something. I was so embarrassed and my girls were confused and scenes how upset I was. It can really throw off your day. Like what did he accomplish by doing that? If you want to complement me on something I have control of that's fine but don't point out good
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your right that is really awful you should have to endure such pain on a daily basis. Maybe we should stone you to death for refusing an arranged marriage. You spoiled, insolent brat.
@ThelNobbler jesus christ just because a problem is smaller than other problems it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, and shouldn't be addressed. grow up.
Last weekend I was meeting with my friend for lunch and it was very warm so I was wearing a dress. Not too short, but above the knee. On the way to lunch, two men stopped and asked me if I wanted to go home with them. I laughed it off and walked away, but later that night as I was returning home, a man FOLLOWED me home from the bus stop. I walked quickly once I realized and into my house, and he RANG MY DOORBELL. I called the cops and the guy disappeared, but still, this does not happen to men.
@moxieoxy3 I can assure you it does happen to men. A man was raped and assaulted down my road. It may not be as often, and it may not happen in the same way, but it does happen.
I never feel comfortable walking past people period, Like I just want to sit on tumblr because I'm worried my presence in the world will just be horrific
see i do wanna agree with you, i really do. as a woman i get it too but if you switched that around and a load of women were wolf whistling at a hot guy or following him around apparently that's not seen as bad? harassment in general isn't great, but a wolf whistle isn't really what i consider harassment? they aren't like following you or anything? yeah don't bother replying to this anyone because no doubt you'll have something much more intelligent to say on the matter
The worst thing is when you are only 16 and men in their early twenties shout things and wolf whistle. It isn't flattering. It's scary. I think that most women have this problem.
Totally agree! I never feel comfortable walking past a group of teenage boys/men, i always feel the need to look at the floor or pretend to text or change the song Im listening to. Me and my friends are always being followed and stuff like that. Its disgusting that we cant go out looking nice without feeling on edge
Oh Lex, I'm so sorry you have to go through that and I totally agree it's revolting :(. As a guy with long hair, I've been heckled by a group of 'lads' when with my girlfriend before for being "a couple of dykes", and asking us to kiss for them etc. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it must be like for most girls putting up with this all the time :/
Furthermore I aggree some lads feel the same about girls.
I feel unsafe walking past a group of guys and on more than one occasion I have gone out of my own way to avoid them ( Which shouldn't be done) I feel its impossible for me to dress nice and remain confident. I am always in jeans and a T-shirt because I am scared of what people think of me outside. Which isnt how a 16 year old should be made to feel. Anyone want to talk about this matter with me? Feel free
I agree too. I left the house the other day to go to town when waiting at the bus stop there was a group of lands in a house wolf whistling through the window and trying to spit at me.
Also when in town on a different day a random guy decided to come up and say ''Your Sexy I want to F*** you'' This is wrong as I am a 16 year old girl and behavior like this should be stopped. But what makes it worse is that men see it as normal and natural to behave like this when its very hurtful and degrading.
My cousin had a friend who was followed by a man in a car on her way home from school
but luckily she managed to recognise a boy from the year above in her school and told him what was happening he let her into their house and the man in the car waited outside
they called the police and they found out that he was from the lake district and comes over where i live to look for school girls!
I know how you feel, I was walking home from school a while ago and there was a big group of teenage boys slightly ahead of me that i wanted to avoid for some reason. (sixth sense or something, i don't know) I was right to want to, because when i passed them, one of them was trying to make me kiss him. :| wasn't fun. Ughh big groups of boys make me feel so uncomfortable.
oh yea, i get totally freaked walking anywhere by myself, and a group of guys are around, almost always do they say something rude, im in high school currently, last year was so bad, i had guys slapping my butt and following me around in the hallways, i feel so uncomfortable leaving my classes, you dont even know
Jesus, Lex! That's so horrible! I know what you mean though, sometimes if I'm walking alone at night and I see a group of rowdy guys, I cross the street. I've been honked at, whistled at, called at, suggestively touched. It's not fair at all.
I know exactly what you mean, and I fucking hate it to. I feel like where ever I'm going some sexist muthahucka has to comment or yell, no matter what I wear. I cross the road and try avoid them, and no matter how hard you try ignore it and not give a shit, it makes you feel sick and it sticks with you for the rest of the day. It sucks. Fuck them.
However, as a man, it's nice to be called at by girls every now and again, because it's NOT the status quo, and I'm not really that afraid of a bunch of women getting off their construction jobs, following me down an alley and raping me.
@adamfawcett "You do need to be careful with dressing up like...if you look too nice you're basically asking for it."
Wow adamfawcett, you sir, are stupid to say the least. Later on you state this is a joke and that it is not meant for rape but for the wolf whistles but you need to understand that ppl who rape say that all the time. Either way they are not "asking for it" it is because the people who do the wolf whistling don't care if it makes the person feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
its funny tho. pretty girls always complain when they get unwanted attention for their looks, while ugly girls who don't get attention for their looks wish they did. Nobody is ever happy. Fucked up world we live in huh.
@golfinguru11 I don't think even an "ugly girl" would be happy if some twat in a white van wolf whistled at her. Attention like that is always unwanted.
i'm not entirely sure what to make out of all this "men are the enemy" going around, i doubt there's much to make out of it without having the national feminist party march down my throat and make their way to my balls and take them for a trophy...
This is actually one of the reasons why I am glad I do not have a large chest, it seems like it would be calling to much unwanted attention from the opposite sex. It's bad enough already and oddly enough it happens more when I'm looking my absolute worse - like right after working out and I'm thinking "really???"
for guys its no better. In fact it might be worse. If an awkward guy (like me) walks past a group of girls you instantly become paranoid and when you hear talking you think they are talking about you. If the dont you think they where just talking about you and are now trying to hide it. Or im just weird
@SmileyMikee Well here's the thing. If you talk to a group of men they'll say they're afraid of women because they might make fun of them. If you ask women why they're afraid of men they'll say it's because a man could kill them. Which is the bigger problem? It's wrong to say it's no better for men. Because it is better. Would you honestly rather feel uncomfortable with your body and feel potentially in danger than risk being talked about?
@YoungMagestic the odd thing is that murder doesnt matter what gender it is. And if a girl laughs at a guy for no reason the guy will become self concious. blame themselves, and go into depression. I know girls do this aswell but a guy CANT show their emotions making it harder to get them out. This can end in self harm. PLZ dont say that one gender has it harder than the other. I was just putting past a point form the other gender.
@SmileyMikee No actually. The majority of serial killers and rapists are men killing women. While yes I agree women have the potential to make men feel uncomfortable that is not comparable to the massive DANGER many women feel simply because they've walked outside their door. And no. I will say one gender has it harder. Because women do. Women are discriminated against, objectified, and then have their experiences disregarded by people like you.
@YoungMagestic I am not the one disregarding the other persons opinion. You are completely diregarding mine and any other mens because they are not women. Plz I am not ignoring your ideas and experiences. I would never do that because I hate it when people do that to me. All I said was that women and men have similar levels of problems in the situations . Please don't call me a sexist idiot just because i share my opinion on a subject and you challenged me. not the other way around.
@YoungMagestic lol the short answer is that you're wrong.
the longer short answer is that being a woman also gives you an endless amount of advantages and that being a man gives you an endless amount of disadvantages, as well. men are discriminated against and objectified all the time, by the way.
Also, you need to understand that people are all equally scared of getting murdered by shady guys when they walk out in the middle of the night, it's not fear exclusive to women.
@aceandalsostuff No. If you can give me actual statistics then I'll consider you're point of view. List one advantage women have. Men get away with treating women as sex objects, hurting them, abusing them, making them feel uncomfortable and then paying them less for their work. Men can feel uncomfortable late at night. But women have to have their guard up LITERALLY every moment of everyday. The majority of violent crimes are committed against women by men. These fears are not unjustified.
@YoungMagestic Women don't have to let their guard up every moment of every day, because whenever they're in a place that contains other people, nothing bad would happen to them because we live in a world where people see women as human beings, despite what you seem to think. Violent crimes are committed against men, I am a man and I'm scared all the time, I refuse to believe the bullshit that it's related to gender.
As for advantages, I'll send you a pm, I can't fit it here.
i'm in brazil, where unfortunately the education and respect level are even lower, plus is always insanely hot (we easily get 40º celsius), so legs and arms are, most of the time, exposed - what half the men on the street translate as "she wants it". a whistle is nothing compared to the looks and postures they get. very, very nasty things are said to me since i was 12 (not a very attractive girl: slightly overweight, glasses, small boobs, so imagine what they say to tall, beautiful woman)
I've never had the urge to wolf whistle, or shout something misogynistic at a random woman in the street (or any woman for that matter) I find it somewhat confusing that people do.
Totally agree with you Lex. This is why I feel very uncomfortable approaching women, because I assume they'll just think I'm another moron who's about to harass them. I don't get this kind of behaviour from some of my fellow men at all, I almost feel like I should apologise to women on behalf of these douchebags or something.
When guys honk their car horns at me, I'm like "What are you expecting me to do?". Do they truly expect me to run down the street after them screaming "TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"?
I am the same way. I rarely leave the house because there is ALWAYS someone who has to be a douche and make a comment about my boobs (I'm a 46 DDD). That is my one thing that I'm more self conscious about than anything and I hate the fact that I can't ever enjoy myself or wear things I want to for the fear of getting a nasty comment...
I know exactly what you mean about walking past men in the street. Everytime I see a group of men or teenage boys on my route, I think, 'Shit, here we go.' and have to psych myself up to face some bullshit. Nine times out of ten, I'm right. It's depressing, it's humiliating and infuriating, and it needs to change.
I don't understand why guys try to harass women. Do they actually think that it is a turn on of sorts and said woman will not jump into his arms and go home with him?
It is so true that girls DON'T dress for men. When I put on something nice, I put it on for MYSELF because it makes ME feel good. And when creepy men honk or whistle, it just makes me feel really uncomfortable. And actually, studies have shown that most women dress for other women.
When I was living in England I was almost followed home. I had to ask a random harmless-ish looking man at the bus stop to stand with me because another man was stalking me (how I picked him out and thought he looked harmless..I have no idea) . He literally had to shove him off the bus and tell the driver to shut the door on him. As we drove away the man outside pounded on the window and gave me the middle finger. It was the single most terrifying experience I've ever had.
i dont actually see why there is a discussion going on here...isnt it obvious that both woman and men have this problem (even though i agree, it is predominantly a problem woman have), and isnt it also obvious that its completely wrong and disgusting to sexually harass anyone no matter of their gender or status or whatever? I often have people grabbing my bum or wolf-whistling at me no matter what I'm wearing (thankfully nothing worse), so I know how it feels, and I'm sure some guys know as well
I feel uncomfortable leaving the house because for the exact same reason! Mainly when in my student house as its not in a nice area >_< im delaying going out right now because I can't bing myself to walk as alone! soooooo many creepy men!!! Feel your pain!!!
Darling, you nailed this perfectly. It is utterly ridiculous that that sort of behaviour is considered acceptable, and it is also ridiculous that you are receiving negative feedback. I support you one hundred percent!
All this reminds me of the controversy over the slut walks. I actually don't know how other blokes harass women like that it makes me cringe just hearing it and I couldn't ever imagine doing it. What's wrong with a normal compliment?
Ps hate it when they don't melt the cheese properly.
I guess it speaks for itself that that "I think women enjoy playing,"The Victim."" wanker's activity after watching this video was liking and annoying orange video, a video about explosives, and a video of some guy shooting a pistol in a block of ice...
You should never have to apologise for that Lex. I know how you feel and it's disgusting that anyone should make girls feel that way. I had a man yesterday follow me down the street shouting extremely crude things to me. I had a man once walk up behind me put his arm around me and one hand on my chest. It's scary and wrong. As you said us girls dress up for US. No one else. And looking nice does not justify the way that some men treat us. It's despicable.
The same goes for when going out on a night. Some guys [and occasionally girls too] will smack girls butts or randomly grab them when they are dancing. They think it's okay, that girls dancing in a club are only for their amusement and to pull.
The responses to this video really show how prevalent sexual harassment is in our society, I have had car horns beeped at me, I've had shopkeepers fondle my hand when I'm getting my change, I've even had young men lean fully out of a car window to scream at me, always when I'm alone. Most of this isn't about trying to get off with a girl, it's about humiliating and degrading young women for the sole fact that they are young women, and are apparently sex objects up for public judgement.
I have a friend who grew up in a place where hitting on girls is fairly common, and she moved to Singapore, which is a pretty conservative country, and did not get hit on at all during her 6-year stay here. She recently went back to her country and told me about how much she missed getting hit on. I find that really sad how there ARE girls who could give other people this idea that it's okay, even though it really is not and there's no excuse for it.
@theshinyredballoon i used to live in singapore, then i moved to england and there is an entirely different attitude, its disgusting. in singapore, particularly as a blonde haired, blue-eyed brit, some older singaporeans would stop me and compliment me on my hair then let me get on my way. here in england, it seems i can't leave the house without being verbally harassed or beeped at by men in cars. it is as though there is no respect, i can't understand why any girl would want that!
anyway, I like this video. I'm not the most attractive woman on earth but I want to feel free to wear whatever like and living where I live, it's not really possible. Everytime I'm dressed up, I have to put some clothes over my clothes or a big ugly coat so I look ugly enough to avoid being attacked while I take public transportation... (and I live in Paris...)
Me and two of my friends went out dressed in out basically our pyjamas at 8 o clock in the morning to go and buy some stuff for breakfast and some people leant out of a car and wolf whistled at us. It had nothing to do with what we were wearing.
I can really understand you, Lex, I have the same feeling when I go outside even though I know that 99.9% of the people out there are probably really nice and there are just a few that have said things on the street that made me feel uncomfortable.
@5hadowflam3 hahaha WHAT? no, I'm not doing videos every day. I've never done videos every day so I don't know why you think that. and I wouldn't make videos if it would 'tire me out', oddly enoughI can judge that for myself.
It works the other way too though. I work as a bouncer and sometimes girls will come up and grab my penis. It's degrading and shows that they clearly have no respect for us. I know some doorman play to it etc, but I personally find it really offensive. :/
@Jaybob2090 this is why I also said it happens to some men, I know that it's a problem for both genders. however, you can't deny that sexual harassment is PREDOMINANTLY a female problem. it's also a little bit more scary for women to be harassed by men, because most men are more physically capable of assaulting or raping a woman than the other way around.
@tyrannosauruslexxx Of course it is indisputable that it would be more intimidating for a woman to be harassed by males. I was just trying to draw attention to (and reiterate) your point that it also occurs to males. Granted I could defend myself against "attacks" with greater success compared to the average woman, but comparing the two incidents is comparing chalk and cheese. What happens to males is humiliating (usually) and what happens to females is intimidating. Thanks for your response :)
fucking hell, are people in the comments SERIOUSLY justifying harassment by saying that women "ask for it"? since when does getting dressed up and wearing makeup equate to me saying I want creepy men to harass me? It doesn't and it shouldn't.
I was in the outskirts of London once, walking along the sidewalk, wearing jeans, t-shirt, and coat, nothing special, and two assholes drove by and yelled "Hey baby, you wanna fuck me tonight?"
I understand your discomfort in going placed dressed up, definitely.
I think women enjoy playing,"The Victim." They spend hours applying make-up,doing their hair and choosing their outfit and when they receive unwanted attention from men they cry foul and blame the entire male species for the acts of a few miscreants.Men are sexual predators in the truest sense of the word,we exist to procreate or destroy.Art,war and industry are just outlets for our lust,to deny the devil inside is to court fate. This is why there are rapes, murders and mayhem. We need to breed.
@dimduk excuse me?! you're the one generalising here, noone is blaming the entire male gender. MOST women dress up becasuse it makes THEM feel good. Not because they want to be ogled, shouted at or groped!
and MOST men are not sexual predators! yes, men were "made to breed", but so were women, ofc! "to deny the devil inside is to court fate" how dare you? you're the one blanketing men. MOST men i know are RESPECTFUL, unlike you.
It's not as if sexual urges are irrepressible, for ANYONE
@dimduk women do not dress themselves for men, they dress themselves FOR THEMSELVES, which I know might be a tricky concept for you to understand. at no point did anyone "blame the entire male species". men are not "sexual predators", we do hardly anything these days based on biology and if men can't control their "urges" then it's a mental illness not a natural state of being. you are utterly, utterly delusional, a disgusting misogynist, and there's no doubt that you'll die alone.
@dimduk Speak for yourself, I'm not a sexual predator, I. AM. A. HUMAN. FUCKING. BEING. who creates art because it's beautiful. I don't know if I even want children but the thought of a creature like you being allowed to pro-create makes me want to throw up.
@dimduk You are in possession of a copius amount of ignorance, it is quite selfish that you have taken all this ignorance for yourself, it should be redistributed among the population- Stephen Fry for example suffers from a terrible ignorance-deficiency. You appear to be using what political scienctists have come to refer to as 'Bachmann Logic' where an individual, upon being asked to give their opinion on the subject, simply panics and proceed to make shit up.
@KungfuCow5 Also, I would add that rather than marking @dimduk's, and similar, comments as spam to hide them from future viewers it is probably wiser to leave it there in the open so people can be aware of the stupidity that exists in this world and possibly hold a fundraiser of some sort to stop it- maybe a telethon to buy basic history books for misogynists.
Your sexist attitude makes me literally ill. I'm glad you're getting lots and lots of hate mail because quite generally anyone who has that on their mind, needs to go to prison for even thinking any of that is behavior that can in anyway be ok.
@dimduk You legitimately frighten me. The fact that you think these things are acceptable is atrocious. I don't spend hours putting on makeup. Most of the days I don't even try and as a result I get treated like some doll put on display for horrible men to gawk at. There is something seriously wrong there.
@dimduk you sir are truly disgusting. I don't dress up for you, I do it for me. Forgive me for not wanting to go out looking like I haven't even washed you complete and utter dick. Yeah totally, us women enjoy playing the vicitm; because we can't get enough of men wolf whistling, demeaning comments and rape. Boy do you know women.
I'm always extremely terrified being around men that I don't know. Just a couple weeks ago I was at work in my gross uniform and still some guy came up to me called me "baby" winked at me and then kind of hung around. It's so creepy and scary. That's what the buddy system is for though! Anyhow you are doing a really cool thing stepping out of your comfort zone like that and doing these challenges. I keep forgetting to check what they are so I keep failing. You're doing much better than me. :)
Er you (lex) is lucky to live in England. It's impossible to get rapist punished in Norway, and if you DO succeed they get 14 months. (speaking of personal experience)
@sigridandbilly that's horrible, I'm so sorry :( unfortunately the law in the UK doesn't mean that all rapists are punished, it's still a very difficult process. "85,000 women were victims of rape or attempted rape in the UK in 2006, equating to about 230 cases every day. According to that report one of every 200 women in the UK was a victim of rape or attempted rape in 2006. The report also showed that only 800 persons were convicted in rape crimes that same year."
Walking past men at dark, especially groups, makes me extremely uncomfortable because so often people are spurred on by their friends to say things that they otherwise wouldn't say. If I'm on my own outside my house I feel vulnerable, which is why I and so many people I know hate going out on my own. You're not alone! I think it's perfectly reasonable to be cautious around those you don't know.
You're not alone Lex - I am also often horrified when walking around Portswood at night, and I'm an 18 year old boy haha! Been shouted at outside that bloody Sincerity shop before too, it's like some sort of angst-hub. Shirley is equally as bad.
Certainly not an overreaction to feel unsafe. I can't say I've ever been so much as looked at by a guy I didn't know, but then I'm in no way pretty like you are. I get terrified if I pass people I know, especially a certain guy I went to school with, who thinks it was acceptable to push me down stairs and against walls and stuff and whenever I complained to the school they did nothing, so as a result I'm pretty terrified to leave my house for fear of what he might do.
@CakeBeneathTheIcing In as non-creepy a way as possible, I think you're pretty. Don't worry, when you're a little older you'll get this all the time and will be very tired of it, I can assure you. More importantly, though, eventually you'll have someone you actually care about compliment you every day, and trust me - that's way better than consescending whistles from leering old men. =)
It is not an overreaction to feel unsafe, not at all. I think a lot of women feel this way, and it is entirely unfair. Imo, its more of a survival instinct than anything.
I was walking along with my friend once and someone shouted "Dirty whore" at me. I was wearing a jacket, shorts and tights. I haven't worn those tights since =(
I feel your pain :'( I get winked and wolf whistled at and I'm only 14, it's disgusting and it happens mostly when I'm wearing school uniform which makes it worse :(
Yeah, it's a world of inconsiderate imbeciles, who are nauseatingly self-righteous. I'm sorry to hear it's such a source of discontent for you.
I forgot you live here for the "all-youtubers-are-in-LA" reason. It was really that cold? I have not had to go outside thankfully, still no university to attend until the 16th. Should be revising, or reading for my essay on Huntingtons, but instead I'm reading TFiOS and watching Breaking Bad. Anyway.
Everytime I watch your videos I can't get over how freaking pretty you are. I hope I look nearly as good as you when I'm your age (I'm 15...by the way) Also I agree with you, though I don't get "wolf whistled" at or harassed because people in Italy (at least in my area) dont really do that, it happens to my sister (who lives in Canada) and it sucks really
one time i was walking up the road just wearing a normal outfit and i walked right past a car and the guy in the car beeps at me so im just like ugh but just carry on walking but then i have to wait at the crossing and ofcourse this guy drives past me and leans over and gives me a big thumbs up. when this happened i was 15. but i also remember getting beeped at by people when i was about 12 or 13 even though i was wearing a school uniform. i just dont see how it can be acceptable.
I'm sorry to hear that a lot of guys are assholes but not all of us harass women. Some of us might walk into street lights because of how pretty you are but that's more embarrassing to us. (I know from experience :D)
Lex, don't be sorry for telling us about it. It's an issue that really isn't fair. I'm a girl and it bothers me a lot too. Every time I pass a group of guys or men I feel uncomfortable because I know they're probably going to say something inappropriate. I shouldn't have to feel threatened like that. I should be free to wear what I want and not be afraid to get harassed just for being female. I fucking hate it.
I couldn't agree more. When I was younger, about 15-18, I liked going jogging down the street and walking home from school. I live in suburbia so it's not anywhere particularly shady. There were a few times that stupid people in cars would shout inappropriate things at me and ask me if I wanted to get in...so now I don't go anywhere like that alone.
I use the gym at school/work and drive everywhere I need to go. I hate feeling like that so I get you completely.
I don't think i'd be able to talk to Lex. I'd be like, h-huh- h...uhm, h-hi lex. By which point, it's thursday afternoon and i've wasted a day trying to say two words.
I know how you feel, it's quite scary approaching people in groups, even if they're not lads. A lot of people do it to show off to their mates or whatever. I'm such a wuss :L
I know exactly how you feel, walking past groups of men. I feel so uncomfortable, especially if I'm dressed up nice. And sometimes its not even wolf whistles, etc. Once I walked past a group of guys, and one of them blew cigarette smoke on me, and as I was further away, yelled "MUNTER!" and all the group started to laugh. It was awful, and now every time I walk past a group of men, I expect abuse. I know, I have shitty self confidence...
Once I was at a bus stop hen a drunk man lurched towards me, saying things about me. I was absolutely terrified, and embarrassed and crying. The mans friends laughed before dragging him away. It's not okay for an adult to do stuff like that to underage girls. God I was so scared.
I feel the same way when I go out even when I'm dressed regularly and I never even wear any kind of seductive clothing, if I'm dressing nice I'll wear a long flowy dress
Women have been taught that empowerment is directly linked to allowing their bodies to be objectified and using their sexuality to get what they want. This is fucked up. This is wrong. But this idea is also really prevalent. This is why women are expected to feel flattered at the wolf whistles and cat-calls and why some men like to drag out the "we just can't help ourselves/you know you love it" crap to justify the bad behavior. When a woman points out how shitty this is, she's attacked.
I don't think a lot of people get that the argument being put forward by people like Lex here is that society teaches "don't get raped" rather than "don't rape people." It's not ok to sexually harass someone in the street, whether they're dressed in almost nothing, or in her case, jeans and a coat. When a woman says "no" that should be the end of it. Just thought I'd add my little opinion to this.
ugh yes, everything you say about the harassment is very true, especially the part about consciously dressing up. every single time i have decided to wear a cute dress or some flattering garment out, i always get a comment, and it's interesting that it is with these "cute" clothes. i'm publicly targeted and humiliated just for trying to do something nice for myself.
I think every woman should be treated with respect, no matter what she's wearing.

Like what did he accomplish by doing that? If you want to complement me on something I have control of that's fine but don't point out good

Oh Lex, I'm so sorry you have to go through that and I totally agree it's revolting :(. As a guy with long hair, I've been heckled by a group of 'lads' when with my girlfriend before for being "a couple of dykes", and asking us to kiss for them etc. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it must be like for most girls putting up with this all the time :/
Rantpodder 1 month ago 5
Furthermore I aggree some lads feel the same about girls.
I feel unsafe walking past a group of guys and on more than one occasion I have gone out of my own way to avoid them ( Which shouldn't be done) I feel its impossible for me to dress nice and remain confident. I am always in jeans and a T-shirt because I am scared of what people think of me outside. Which isnt how a 16 year old should be made to feel. Anyone want to talk about this matter with me? Feel free
SuperSpeckybecky 1 month ago 3
I agree too. I left the house the other day to go to town when waiting at the bus stop there was a group of lands in a house wolf whistling through the window and trying to spit at me.
Also when in town on a different day a random guy decided to come up and say ''Your Sexy I want to F*** you'' This is wrong as I am a 16 year old girl and behavior like this should be stopped. But what makes it worse is that men see it as normal and natural to behave like this when its very hurtful and degrading.

Wow adamfawcett, you sir, are stupid to say the least. Later on you state this is a joke and that it is not meant for rape but for the wolf whistles but you need to understand that ppl who rape say that all the time. Either way they are not "asking for it" it is because the people who do the wolf whistling don't care if it makes the person feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

for guys its no better. In fact it might be worse. SmileyMikee 1 month ago
YoungMagestic 1 month ago in playlist More videos from tyrannosauruslexxx
@YoungMagestic the odd thing is that murder doesnt matter what gender it is. And if a girl laughs at a guy for no reason the guy will become self concious. blame themselves, and go into depression. I know girls do this aswell but a guy CANT show their emotions making it harder to get them out. This can end in self harm. PLZ dont say that one gender has it harder than the other. I was just putting past a point form the other gender.
SmileyMikee 1 month ago
@SmileyMikee No actually. The majority of serial killers and rapists are men killing women. While yes I agree women have the potential to make men feel uncomfortable that is not comparable to the massive DANGER many women feel simply because they've walked outside their door. And no. I will say one gender has it harder. Because women do. Women are discriminated against, objectified, and then have their experiences disregarded by people like you.
YoungMagestic 1 month ago
@YoungMagestic I am not the one disregarding the other persons opinion. You are completely diregarding mine and any other mens because they are not women. Plz I am not ignoring your ideas and experiences. I would never do that because I hate it when people do that to me. All I said was that women and men have similar levels of problems in the situations . Please don't call me a sexist idiot just because i share my opinion on a subject and you challenged me. not the other way around.
SmileyMikee 1 month ago
@YoungMagestic lol the short answer is that you're wrong.
the longer short answer is that being a woman also gives you an endless amount of advantages and that being a man gives you an endless amount of disadvantages, as well. men are discriminated against and objectified all the time, by the way.
Also, you need to understand that people are all equally scared of getting murdered by shady guys when they walk out in the middle of the night, it's not fear exclusive to women.
aceandalsostuff 1 month ago
@aceandalsostuff No. If you can give me actual statistics then I'll consider you're point of view. List one advantage women have. Men get away with treating women as sex objects, hurting them, abusing them, making them feel uncomfortable and then paying them less for their work. Men can feel uncomfortable late at night. But women have to have their guard up LITERALLY every moment of everyday. The majority of violent crimes are committed against women by men. These fears are not unjustified.
YoungMagestic 3 weeks ago

@tyrannosauruslexxx Of course it is indisputable that it would be more intimidating for a woman to be harassed by males.

Your sexist attitude makes me literally ill. I'm glad you're getting lots and lots of hate mail because quite generally anyone who has that on their mind, needs to go to prison for even thinking any of that is behavior that can in anyway be ok.
MusicGothicLover 1 month ago
@dimduk You legitimately frighten me. The fact that you think these things are acceptable is atrocious. I don't spend hours putting on makeup. Most of the days I don't even try and as a result I get treated like some doll put on display for horrible men to gawk at. There is something seriously wrong there.
SuperWho32 1 month ago

The report also showed that only 800 persons were convicted in rape crimes that same year."
tyrannosauruslexxx 1 month ago 11
@tyrannosauruslexxx The thing is aswell that most people don't report rape to the police. that's all i had to say really :/
Oh yeah you looked nice :)

I think it's perfectly reasonable to be cautious around those you don't know.
rac95rac 1 month ago
You're not alone Lex - I am also often horrified when walking around Portswood at night, and I'm an 18 year old boy haha! Been shouted at outside that bloody Sincerity shop before too, it's like some sort of angst-hub. Shirley is equally as bad.

Certainly not an overreaction to feel unsafe. I can't say I've ever been so much as looked at by a guy I didn't know, but then I'm in no way pretty like you are. I get terrified if I pass people I know, especially a certain guy I went to school with, who thinks it was acceptable to push me down stairs and against walls and stuff and whenever I complained to the school they did nothing, so as a result I'm pretty terrified to leave my house for fear of what he might do.
izzypro17 1 month ago
@CakeBeneathTheIcing In as non-creepy a way as possible, I think you're pretty. Don't worry, when you're a little older you'll get this all the time and will be very tired of it, I can assure you. More importantly, though, eventually you'll have someone you actually care about compliment you every day, and trust me - that's way better than consescending whistles from leering old men. =)

It is not an overreaction to feel unsafe, not at all. I think a lot of women feel this way, and it is entirely unfair. Imo, its more of a survival instinct than anything.

HomeOnASaturdayNight 1 month ago

Just thought I'd add my little opinion to this.
abiii321 1 month ago 31
ugh yes, everything you say about the harassment is very true, especially the part about consciously dressing up. every single time i have decided to wear a cute dress or some flattering garment out, i always get a comment, and it's interesting that it is with these "cute" clothes. i'm publicly targeted and humiliated just for trying to do something nice for myself.
