  • The first time I heard the version by Middle of the Road, I thought the record was on the wrong speed. Mac and Katie have the better version, for sure. Both went on to tour with James Last.

  • Remember the lovely Katie as one of Brother Lee Love's gospel singers on the Kenny Everett Television Show?

  • wow that black chick is so beautifull

  • great song! but gets stuck in your head easily!

  • I heard this version on XM 7 yesterday.

I've been searching for it ans finely found it here.

I think I like this version the best.

  • I heard this on 70s on 7 XM Satellite Radio the other day. I hadn't heard it in 40 years. Thanks for posting.

  • @RUDYNATACHA Really. They must be paying attention to my postings. For some reason it's also in the format of KXMO 95.3 Cuba Mo. A big thanks for d.j. Mick for playing it and helping to return it to the format after all these years.

  • Is it just me, or does this sound a whole lot like Boney M.?

  • Thank you for posting this enduring 1971 dance classic!! CHEERS - DAVEDJ

  • With Real Player I can easily download and convert YouTube files. I have 32 versions of this song on an audio playlist. Also have a YouTube Playlist

  • Holy #%*@! What a blast from the (distant) past! One of the first 45's I ever owned. Thanks for the memory!

  • Lots of versions on YouTube including the original by Lally Stott. This was the only version I ever heard until 2009. Thanks, I've been looking for it.

  • @ColonelFain go to mp3bear for free copy of it

  • I just love this song more cos these guys made it first and gave it kudos for me! I loved this song by middle of the road, in the 70s, respect to Mac & Katie Kissoon

  • i had this great 45 back in the day-fun memories. great original song.

  • I have the Tube amps (6550's) and speakers to pull this song to 15 Hertz,if there is a copy off a master that is clean and available. From my experience in audio, that studio reproduced this song with a 15 Hertz low end, which will remove drywall.LOL.Just curious if Dunhill Records purposly put this on Vynal with the raspy mid and distorted lows.I have my original 45 on Dunhill from '71 (I was 5years old) and It sounds the same as this one here.I thought I had played mine to death,,LOL.

  • I have to admit it,I love Sally Carr's version too,,but in '71 (I was only 5),,this was it for us in the U.S.I had no idea of the Beautifull Sally Carr. One thing I wish i could figure out,,maybe somebody out there knows, Everytime they say "OHHWEE"Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep,,the lows (Bass) keep getting lower (Hertz),,but also keep getting extremely muddier. Is there a version of this that is reproduced and able to pull the low end with authority? Without getting distorted?

  • Wow this brings some memories back. I was 9 when this came out. I began listening to the radio at 7. But this was my first 45 (of many to follow) I ever bought with my allowance. It was such a fun song. I still have it.

  • I was in junior high school when this song came out. i had the precise 45 that you see on this video. played it over and over.

  • Trailboy & chuckcollins: Yes...Middle of the Road's version never played in America, to it's detriment! I'm endlessly amazed at how the rest of the planet is so much more worldly than Americans. I was born in the US but feel MUCH more at home in the UK. The music scene in the US is a joke. So many great bands, including some from the US, make it big elsewhere but not the states....and when I expose Americans to this music, they like it.

  • Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep - sounds like my boss!

  • I like this verison better. More clear the other sounds too mousy

  • Wow, Katie was really gorgeous! This is the version I remember hearing as a kid. I loved this song when I was young. Still do. And I think it's way better than Middle of the Road's version!

  • Katie Kissoon is GORGEOUS!!

  • This song reminds me of Little Eva's "Locomotion". A great song with a catchy riff!

  • This version is the best one.

  • they did it the best !

  • Awesome! I remember this song very well when it was a hit in about 1971. I was just about 4 or 5 at the time. A classic pop song!

  • Great song...first time I've seen their pics...Katie is cute!

  • Great song...first time I've seen their pics...Katie is cute!

  • Did pretty well in Chattanooga. Sadly, a classmate's mother killed herself while it was popular, the "Woke up this morning, & my mama was gone" line is especially poignant...

  • Waaaaay better than Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber!!!

  • @MrNYCman530 Anything is better then them.

  • The picture of Katie at :57 captures her appealing looks, but something more than that. If only I'd been ten years older when this came out!

  • Hey, Chuck - Thank you for posting this 1971 dance classic - it stayed on the U.S. charts for 15 weeks, & was clearly the preferred version stateside (by me, too). Donny & Marie didn't chart until '74 - the Kissoons/Kissons were a bro/sis performing before that time, so your post is accurate. Love this song! DAVEDJ

  • If Katie was the singer, what was Mac's role in the duo? Somebody let me know. God bless!

  • A GREAT one hit wonder!

  • Thanks for posting (although I thought Donny & Marie were the Donny & Marie of 1971 : ) My question is, does ANYBODY know what this is about???

  • her version is so much better than Middle of the road

  • Throwback to real Rock And Roll. Love this record!

  • Love this version a little bit more. But MOR version also rocks as well.

  • This was only a very minor hit. Those in the UK who remember the song really remember the version by Scottish group Middle of the Road, which was number one for five weeks in 1971.

  • @cbak12sg This version wasn't a "very minor hit" in the US--it reached #20 and stayed in the Top 40 for more than 2 months. If MOR's version was released here, it didn't make a dent. Anyway, I like both versions.

  • @OnThisVerySpot I was only referring to the UK. I had no idea how it performed in the US charts

  • Great song. Very overlooked today.

  • She will be back on the road with Roger Waters doing the WALL SOON

  • @WT9911 That is great news! I hope it's a success. Turns out we DO need some education!

  • @chuckcollins Sadly, I just checked on the Roger Waters page and there are to be no female backup vocalists on the WALL tour. I guess with the Dark Side of the Moon tour, they had to be featured since the Blackberries were all over that album. Dang it!

  • Thanks so much for putting this up. I have a copy that looks exactly like this but it is full of scratches from being played so many times.

This is the one that I remember being played. Since I have been on youtube I learned that other groups such as Middle of The Road Were First but never played here in Ameica... Wow!

  • The Middle Of The Road version seems, ironically, very British by comparison.

  • @trailboyus66 If you notice on the 45, it says (Scott) as the composer, but his name is actually Lally Stott, not Scott.

  • @madmaclbs So Lally Stott wrote the song. Wow! D.J. Mick played this version for me a few weeks ago on KXMO Cuba/Rolla. At least it's a start. For years radio stations would not play this awesome little song...

  • I haven't heard this song in 40 years. The childhood memories it sturred up almost brought tears to my eyes.

  • I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed bringing it to you.

You know, this is one of the few songs that has been a hit three different times.

  • Thanks for your comments. Hopefully we can get Don't Turn Around by The Raes back on. Franklin Disco's site has been suspended. He tells me he is a train engineer. I probably have said too much but I say it with respect. How can they suspend a train engineer?

It took me over 2 years of asking but I got Summer Symphony put up by Jack Gold.

Do you remember a song in the early

    70's that went.

"I can see it now it's a new born baby; I can see it now" can't find it anywhere.

    Thanks again.

  • @KCOliver1960 Ah - they do don't they ... (almost as much as the back tingles I get - when haphazardly stumbling across even earlier 78's stuff I accidentally taped from mum's stuff - in the 70's)

  • @KCOliver1960 Me too, exactly!
