  • pure art

  • good job

  • d+

  • chavo del 8

  • Beautiful! And what an accurate comment from the 'classical music evolution',

  • He is absolute perfect.

  • credit to the chap who wrote this as well....

  • ALWAYS PERFECT TECHNIQUE AND QUALITY!

  • Who can help me find the sheet or tabs for this song?

  • Can somebody give me the sheets of this song?

  • @Allenamenlukken if you ever find the sheets or tab plese let me know :)

  • this is just an amazing piece of music and art

  • I think this is perfect flamenco.

  • estupendo!

  • @GuitarMaster2410 !!SEE MUY BUNEO TU COMENTARIO COMPI =), PERO ADEMÁS, PACO PEÑA COMPONE LA MAYORÍA DE LA MÚSICA QUE TOCA Y HA APORTADO MUCHO CON LA GUITARRA. PACO FUE EL QUE IDEO E INICIÓ EL FESTIVAL DE GUITARRA DE CORDOBA A DONDE ACUDEN TANTO GUITARRISTAS CLÁSICOS COMO FLAMENCOS; HABLESE DE PACO DE LUCÍA, PEPE ROMERO, JOHN WILLIAMS, TOMATITO ETC.. BRAVO POR PACO PEÑA =D

  • FOR ANYONE WHO IS CURIOUS. THIS IS AN IMPROVISED VERSION OF HIS SONG "LOS VELEROS" (Alegrias)

  • very beautiful playing!!

  • That was wonderful.

  • Yes very pure flamenco. I like many styles and variations of flamenco, but there is something "punchy" about this :) Now learning pieces from Penas book "Toques Flamencos"! They are really cool and I will post some I've learned after I have reached something that is even close to "perfection" :)

  • Definitely a Gerundino- has the headstock.

  • We cannot compare the two Pacos. One is a virtuoso of the guitar and the other one is a pure flamenco perfectionist.. Its a pity they never played together in unison

  • something about the way this guy plays really speaks to me. Very similar to Sabicas!!

  • @macrino1 SABICAS WAS ABIG INFLUENCE ON PACO PENA, AND HE HAS PLAYED MANY SABICAS FALSETTAS

  • my best guess is cedar + cypress

  • @delameu IT IS CEDAR CYPRESS PERHAPS A GERUNDINO

  • I would love to see the two Pacos playing together, though their styles are very different

  • Out of all types of acoustic guitar styles and genres. Flamenco players amaze me the most.

  • Not technical enough??? His technique is unbelievable- to play even 5 seconds with the touch, sound and rhythm that he gets is beyond most very good guitarists- the way he colours and phrases the whole thing is unique as well. A lot of good players good play the notes but their technique wouldn't be good enough to get them to have the right effect.

  • I say to those who don't think he is not technical enough. Just watch some videos from him and Focus on his thumb finger's("P" finger's) Alzapua technic. He is unique in speed , clearity and rhythm, Specialy when he was young.

  • Paco came to my little Artsy..yet Hillbilly town of Tryon North Carolina a few years ago. He was with a few other flamenco guitarists and some dancers both male and female. For two and a half hours we were spell bound beyond reason! Can't even put in into words.......Dale

  • What is the wood on his guitar? Too dark to be spruce, I think.

  • Probably rosewood. It is quite often used on flamenco guitars

  • @herbnik Rosewood on the top? That seems unlikely. It is usually Spruce or Cedar. Just hard to tell because sometimes cedar can be light beige and sometimes spruce can be darker.

  • @Dzakovich000 You're right of course...rosewood's only used for back & sides. maybe red cedar?

  • @Dzakovich000 top looks like cedar, back and sides look like maple.

  • @delameu Sounds plausible.

    But...

How did you see the back lol!

  • @Dzakovich000 ...assuming back is the same as sides, usually is

  • @Dzakovich000 look into the soundhole

  • @Dzakovich000 or cypress for back

  • my favorite guitarist <3

  • paco te pareces a chespiritoooooo!!!

  • @deathinthewind jaaaajaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

    es cierto.

  • BEST GUITAR PLAYER!

  • That looks like the late Tim Russert from NBC in the audience (mid-left).

  • Eviva il FLAMENCO

    5****

  • eso fue muy linda

  • This guy is one of the best classical guitarists i have ever seen.

  • this is flamenco guitar... it is usually considered a different style and not called classical... but i would agree that he is one of the best!

  • He is one of the best Flameco guitarists. I'm not sure if he performs any of the classical repertoire.

  • There are however strong similarities between Alegrias, and Spanish 'art music' (classical).

  • True. Similarities abound in so many types of music. The distinction is relevant considering the differing origins and repertoire.

A dominant conversation is with respect to the particular, unique tradition of Flamenco as a distinct art form worthy of undiluted conservation. Other genre are influenced by Flamenco, but Flamenco remains conservative.

  • Good point!

  • also great composer :D

  • That Paco Peña plays traditional flamenco is his own choice. That you find him boring, ok, there's no accounting for taste. But your comment suggests, to say the least, that you find him boring because he has missed out on the evolution of flamenco guitar. And that is about the most stupid argument to dislike types of music. How boring Bach must be then, he has missed out on 250 years of 'classical music evolution'!

  • You´re actually right. What I meant to say is that the modern flamenco guitar is on a higher level in every aspect than forty years ago. You can´t say the same about the evolution from pre-classical to classical music. Again, in my opinion.

  • he plays "classical flamenco" but he does it perfectly and it's beautiful, no?

  • Well said HAHA.

  • @tmjcbs Bach is boring . . .

  • @okendido ...... No you just have no concept of reality. Asshole.

  • @tmjcbs Jeremy Bentham would disagree with that kind sir

  • @tmjcbs Superb comment ! :-))) And ever so true !

  • @tmjcbs

  • @tmjcbs please let Bach in peace =)

  • Responder a este vídeo... matiza bonitom este maestro!

  • @tmjcbs

  • "The evolution of the flamenco guitar"? It's traditional, not something that is supposed to evolve. Times have changed and the Gypsies don't roam anymore, they live in housing projects. We're lucky to have Flamenco music at all.

  • @szirm79 He have chosen for the pure side of Flamenco.

  • Wow, his guitar sings!!!

  • I love how he ends, he puts his hand in the air!

  • tiriti tran tran tran... esas alegrias ... magia pura

  • Brilliant as always... there is not a single performance of Paco Pena's which is less than brilliant.

  • Ones who are good do not brag....

  • hes probably joking leave him alone

  • :))

  • Soooo talented.

  • bastard! wish I could play like this. Still can't decide who's got better skills Pena or De Lucia. Both bad asses

  • they both have their unique styles, when it comes to the people who create history its not just to say who's the best!

  • thats the point

  • manitas de plata

  • Anyone got tabs for this?

  • i don't think tabs for stuff like this are available you'll have to learn to play an 'alegrias', or recognize the progression he is playing and make your own little version of it, which is the fun part!

  • Generally in A major ,E ,A, D ,A ,E ,A.

  • I find it so unjust that paco pena, one of greatest guitarists the world has ever seen, has such a tiny wikipedia file. But if you look at eric claptons, it's huge! Anyone want to make Paco a lovely huge page for wiki?? I'm busy at the moment...

  • it's because the younger generation does not comprehend flamenco guitar :).. though i guess i am too young

  • he uses his pinky

    daaaamnnnnnnnnnnn

  • al;sdjkf;asodifja;sdl

don't know what else to type...just fucking wowa;sldkfja;sdfasd

  • man

    awesome

    i mean above awesomeness

  • lol flamenco guitar with wooden friction pegs rare find. these guys get the point of the guitar as a polyphonic instrument and not just for insane wanking.

  • Thanks Paco. I have been to your shows and love every minute of it, especially your solos.

  • Paco Pena is the shit...wish I could play this well. in another life maybe

  • I love paco pena! I went to see his show twice in the netherlands! It was so amazing, i forgot to breath! flamenco is one of the most beautiful things. It gives me such a warm feeling.

  • Awesome performance. Anyone know where i can get the sheet music or tabs for this piece?

  • get a book.

  • What book?

  • lol

  • I try to transcribed (and play it) by

watching the movie. Sorry if there some mistakes, you can look at my video in case my transcription isn't what you're looking for.

  • dit is super

  • i need the scores or tabs of this song please send me if you find them

    Gracias

  • buy it !

  • Paco's style is the original.

  • I loved this so much I had to try to play it. Please check out my Alegrias video response:))

  • Paco Peña is magnificent---a great maestro and with such beautiful music and so very flamenco.

  • Paco is very easy on the ears, but try to play this stuff and you will find it deceivingly difficult. I love this guy.

  • Magnificent :) I like it :)

  • Please, is it possible to find a partition or tabs for thios piece ? I should want to play it truly...

  • The guy rox

  • One of my favorites...all my life

  • excellent

  • his quitar is like him child, friend

  • love love love this tune

  • It is Peña.

  • Thanks for the post! Anything Paco Pena is GOLD by me.

  • if anybody can help me out with either the title or at least the style, I'd appreciate it.

  • it is an alegrias. thanks it's a lovely piece

  • Flamenco is not usually named by the "piece" but by the form or "palo." Performers play in a form, but hardly ever put it together exactly the same way twice. In this case it is an alegrias in the key of E. You might identify it by saying "Paco Peña's alegrias in E.

  • well, I think the role of improvisation is somewhat overrated: most pieces are often played about the same, with improvisation only here and there. But that of course depends on the players and the style: in the somewhat more complex pieces Pena plays, improvisation is more limited than De Lucia's playing, for instance. Defeinitely most of Pena's pieces are quite easily recognisable, especially by those who have his recordings.

  • You are right. I was responding to the idea of a piece having a "name" per se. There are a few pieces that are played the same by everyone who plays them, such as Panaderos (by Estaban de San Lucar, I believe). Everyone who plays it (including PdL) plays it the same note for note. But then, I'm not sure you could call that one flamenco except for the fact that it is played almost exclusively by flamenco guitarists. Thanks for the post.

  • I seem to recognize Sabicas'falsetas from an old recording

  • @tmjcbs Actually, Paco is playing mostly Sabicas falsettas here.

  • I think the title was "Los Veleros" (from "Medina Azahara") with some improvisation tmjcbs. Thx for sharing us this movie... I really love this Alegrias!
