if you looked closely from that part when shepard shoots ghost, the pistol looks like it was aiming at his shoulder, so if the bullet didnt curve then bullet either grazed his neck or shot his shoulder knocking him out

Roach does not have the head because instead of his head there is an *invisible camera* so the player sees what's going on in front of the camera. If they roach would have a head then the player would see nothing since the camera would be in the head. Also they have putted the fire behind Shepard because *fire effect* is a texture with animation on it. So if they have putted the fire on Roach and Ghost then it would look like in 2D.

Remember, this is my opinion.
