Wow is a really simple game. I got my character to level 30 in 3 days. It takes you about a few months to get level 30 in Lotro. Wow pvp is awesome and the dungeon raids but people are so immature and they just call u noob and I havent heard that once in Lotro but lotro has much more to do and I does not ever make your stomach ache when u play it but when u get into the higher levels in Lotro you need to have people help u wit the quests because the higher quests are so FUCKING hard but still fn

Even though, WoW is frowned upon a lot. It will always have a huge impact in the Video game Industry. When most people hear MMO first thing that comes to their head is more than likely WoW. I played WoW since vanilla and have cancelled my account so many times and always end up going back to it :P I stopped playing. I haven't played WoW in about 4 months Started playing Rift: got bored. I'm just Playing LoL now.... I don't plan on playing an MMO until Star Wars: The Old Republic releases

whether w/c is better is relative to each player, lotro has improved a lot since i last downloaded it in 2007 & so has wow since i started playing it, they're both in the same industry & both want to be patronize so they keep improving, features r almost the same but we cant say its copying since each game would want to improve in terms of what their players want, i personally like lotro now, its celebrates life whereas wow celebrates death, that difference is quite evident in their dialogues

So there you have it; my concise opinions on WoW and LotRO. If you're reading this, please go down to my first post and read from the bottom to the top.
Perhaps the best thing WoW has going for it is its PvE raid content. I've always enjoyed raiding and, in fact, the reason I quit four months ago was because my guild dissolved and I didn't want to bother with finding another. I was also disgruntled with a few other things, as that was just the tip of the iceberg. Despite however fun raiding may be, it is still extremely time-consuming, difficult to organize, and simply stressful because of the immense difficulty of some encounters.
I would also like to go on record to say that LotRO PvP trumps that of WoW. PvP in WoW is focused in BGs that 1) you can't spot on the map, and seem to only exist in alternate universes, and 2) often meet the player cap before anyone with a functioning brain can join, so teams run around like idiots and call each other names over BG chat. The PvP combat in LotRO is much more realistic, and enjoyable, because it is set in real locations where there really is a lot of conflict between factions.
LotRO also tends to focus on realism and accuracy over fantasy and fiction (ironic since it's set in a make-believe realm). This is largely a plus in my opinion, though it can often detract from gameplay - the reason Blizzard opted for the more unrealistic style when they made WoW. LotRO, however, is much more lifelike and true to the story of Middle-Earth. I've noticed over the years that Blizzard likes to change the lore in Warcraft. To those who care about lore, that is a bad move.
LotRO, on the other hand, is much less complex. The saying "Less is more" applies somewhat, because I don't consider this a drawback. Yes, there are fewer options, considering there are no talent trees and there are far fewer special abilities. Despite this, it still takes knowledge and some dexterity to play correctly and do it well.
Drawbacks, however, are many. There are often too many idiots who don't know how to raid (making pugs ridiculously incapable of achieving much). Additionally, the game is filled with spammers and bots. Gold farmers are in every game, but WoW by far has the worst infestation of any MMO.
Also, stat inflation has become ridiculous. Most epic 85 gear has 200-500 stats, and even with reforging its still annoying to deal with it all. I want to play a game, not practice mathematics.
I've played WoW for 5 years and LotRO for about 2. I think I've earned the right to give an informed opinion, so here goes.
WoW focuses on PvE gameplay and large, lifelike world maps with swift travel. Other focuses include stable economy, fast leveling (keeps people interested), and easy questing.
this video was made four years ago. its all old things. they've upped the graphic content a shit ton. but the funny thing about wow and the lotr movies is.. the witch king and the lich king strike a shocking resemblance. but Warcraft 3 was made before the lotr rings movie. and it the books there was merely a description of the witch king. coincidence?
@LetsGoSnipeHuntin Wrong. The Art for LOTRO has been out for decades. There are calendars and graphic books that date back to the 1980's and yes, they do depict the Witch King.
@Eltidore world of warcraft is based of the warcraft lore. so yes it has a very good story.. the WotLK expansion was based off the frozen expansion of warcraft three.
@IndianaArdenfors Played full WotLK, 3years of subscription the WoW, and I have to admit.. every single mmorpg I played since them, I KEPT comparing it to WoW. WoW is one hell of a game. Only bad thing is.. it gets very addicting and that's why I stopped. Lotro is for more casual gamers in my opinion (Haven't did any high lvls on lotro)

I have gotten to know tons of people online most of them are members of my kin. And there is Alot of good things about kinships, not only is the game more fun when you play it with friend.. they are often helpful, fun andgiving and gives you a feeling of that you are not alone in the the ingame world. @DragonstormStudios you couldn't be more wrong. Go play cataclysm, and you have alot of different epic quests. in lotro its just kill that, collect that, carry that...until you get to the epic quest line, which is good. but the rest sucks
i play both games, but with lotro i get bored after 2h of play... yey shiny graphics, but in the end, you always have something good to do in wow. Such a more immersive game in my opinion. I play both, and enjoy them both, but lotro is just my 'free to play' game. Not worth to pay for it, thats why it adopt the free to play system, it sucked before that.
@DragonstormStudios Sorry, but you are wrong on almost every count about wow. Firstly, you do not do PvE in wow just to gear up for PvP because PvP and PvE have different armor sets and they have nothing to do with each other at all i.e you can do 0 PvE and still be successful at PvP. Secondly, PvE is not catered around young players at all, and there are different difficulty levels for Raids for different players. Sorry, but it seems as if you have not played wow at all.
@auris481 By different difficulty levels you mean, easy mode, and hard mode. The hard mode is becoming an exuse for blizzard to make less good content.
WoW was the first MMORPG I've ever played and the impression Ironforge gave me on my first visit would be forever in my memory. On the other hand, LOTRO deserves every cent I put into it! Both are equally great.

Secondly: Don't compare these two games. It kinda annoys me to see everyone writing off the other game as "nerdy" or "no life". They both have qualities. There's roughly the same amount of story in them both. Two VERY distinctive art styles, in my opinion WoW has the best graphics. I've thought for ages LOTRO was beautiful, then I came back and it was almost ugly. But it's realistic style saved it.
It's just stupid to compare these games, the lore is so different.
LotRO won for me, it has a greater story and awesome gameplay. WoW gets veeeeeeeeeeery boring with the time, but the addicted guys cant see that. Anyway, LotRO vs WoW is just like Halo Series vs Counter Strike: one is well made 4fans and the other is popular, addicting. And how I love LotR and have a life, i play LotRO.
LOTRO = f2p MMO, scalating instances and skirmish, better graphics, incredible in game movies, amazing story, extremely fun crafting system, a lot more buff and debuffs and stats to have in mind, harder enemies, a lot more social experience (from my point of view) in wow you can go all the way of the games without raids or party appart from the instances and bgs and lotro you see your self trying to do imposible solo quest almost all the time

oh and yea to play wow you need to pay but on the servers where i whas playing there whas no need to pay it whas free you only need is world of warcraft lich king and the patch 3.3.5 there are so many servers where you dont need to pay and theres alot of fun and some of the servers are pvp wha means that you start lvl 80 and with 50000 of gold (well some of them you start with that gold) and you buy great items weapon´s and armor´s really cool so i recomend WoW

well i love the movie LOTRO and i have never played the game but for me the best game is WoW you have so much to do so many fcking instance weapons and armor are epic the bosses are really cool and strong battleground´s are one of the most exciting things to do the map is gigantic the history is really big and cool well thats the best game ever for me

Ive played these games equally to the limit I can.
1. Lotro has realistic graphics, WoW has cartoon/fictional fantasy.
2.WoW has a better PvP.
3.Lotro tends to have a more mature gaming crowed.
4.Lotro has a storyline.
5.WoW has more races to choose from, although the ones provided by Lotro are amazing.
6.Although WoW has more races, Lotro has more of a variety of classes.
7.Both games have their fair share of enemies.
Overall both games balance eachother out. Depends what you like more.

Perhaps the best thing WoW has going for it is its PvE raid content. I've always enjoyed raiding and, in fact, the reason I quit four months ago was because my guild dissolved and I didn't want to bother with finding another. I was also disgruntled with a few other things, as that was just the tip of the iceberg. Despite however fun raiding may be, it is still extremely time-consuming, difficult to organize, and simply stressful because of the immense difficulty of some encounters.

I would also like to go on record to say that LotRO PvP trumps that of WoW. PvP in WoW is focused in BGs that 1) you can't spot on the map, and seem to only exist in alternate universes, and 2) often meet the player cap before anyone with a functioning brain can join, so teams run around like idiots and call each other names over BG chat. The PvP combat in LotRO is much more realistic, and enjoyable, because it is set in real locations where there really is a lot of conflict between factions.

LotRO also tends to focus on realism and accuracy over fantasy and fiction (ironic since it's set in a make-believe realm). This is largely a plus in my opinion, though it can often detract from gameplay - the reason Blizzard opted for the more unrealistic style when they made WoW. LotRO, however, is much more lifelike and true to the story of Middle-Earth. I've noticed over the years that Blizzard likes to change the lore in Warcraft. To those who care about lore, that is a bad move.

LotRO, on the other hand, is much less complex. The saying "Less is more" applies somewhat, because I don't consider this a drawback. Yes, there are fewer options, considering there are no talent trees and there are far fewer special abilities. Despite this, it still takes knowledge and some dexterity to play correctly and do it well.

Drawbacks, however, are many. There are often too many idiots who don't know how to raid (making pugs ridiculously incapable of achieving much). Additionally, the game is filled with spammers and bots. Gold farmers are in every game, but WoW by far has the worst infestation of any MMO.
Also, stat inflation has become ridiculous. Most epic 85 gear has 200-500 stats, and even with reforging its still annoying to deal with it all. I want to play a game, not practice mathematics.

I've played WoW for 5 years and LotRO for about 2. I think I've earned the right to give an informed opinion, so here goes.
WoW focuses on PvE gameplay and large, lifelike world maps with swift travel. Other focuses include stable economy, fast leveling (keeps people interested), and easy questing.

i play both games, but with lotro i get bored after 2h of play... yey shiny graphics, but in the end, you always have something good to do in wow. Such a more immersive game in my opinion. I play both, and enjoy them both, but lotro is just my 'free to play' game. Not worth to pay for it, thats why it adopt the free to play system, it sucked before that.

@DragonstormStudios Sorry, but you are wrong on almost every count about wow. Firstly, you do not do PvE in wow just to gear up for PvP because PvP and PvE have different armor sets and they have nothing to do with each other at all i.e you can do 0 PvE and still be successful at PvP. Secondly, PvE is not catered around young players at all, and there are different difficulty levels for Raids for different players. Sorry, but it seems as if you have not played wow at all.

Secondly: Don't compare these two games. It kinda annoys me to see everyone writing off the other game as "nerdy" or "no life". They both have qualities. There's roughly the same amount of story in them both. Two VERY distinctive art styles, in my opinion WoW has the best graphics. I've thought for ages LOTRO was beautiful, then I came back and it was almost ugly. But it's realistic style saved it.
It's just stupid to compare these games, the lore is so different.

oh and yea to play wow you need to pay but on the servers where i whas playing there whas no need to pay it whas free you only need is world of warcraft lich king and the patch 3.3.5 there are so many servers where you dont need to pay and theres alot of fun and some of the servers are pvp wha means that you start lvl 80 and with 50000 of gold (well some of them you start with that gold) and you buy great items weapon´s and armor´s really cool so i recomend WoW
