  • Never knew Jason used distortion on this song.

  • Jason is a GOD

  • yeah, i got this dvd about the black album not too long ago, and it says newsted uses a 12 string for one of the songs on this album?...If anyone knows, please tell me, i think it was on this song but i'm not to sure

  • Probably my favorite bass line from Jason

  • 1:13 makes me wanna buy a bass guitar,

  • Please tell me Jason has a Vio-Lence t-shirt??

  • mmmm Jason

  • bass wah in the verse?

  • @krtbossman yay MORLEY POWA!

  • Bob Rock's best contribution to Metallica.......AUDIBLE Bass.

  • @burningkarma

Bob Rock's production work was amazing. Metallica, Load and ReLoad had fantastic mixes.

  • fucking kick ass tone

  • You could have posted a better picture of Jason!!

  • @ironfistgal He could've. But it's about the audio of course.

  • cute!! haha lml

  • Aww, it doesn't have the *CRACK!* from the 12 string. =/

  • What kind of bass is that?

I think it both sounds and looks awesome!

  • @LOGdanne Not sure about the model, but it is an Alembic bass. Cliff had one too

  • @LOGdanne The bass in the photo is an Alembic, but what you're hearing is a 1981 Spector NS-2 bass. Jason stated that the Alembics' tone was too thin to record with (listen to "Stone Cold Crazy" and see why...it's the only Metallica song Jason used an Alembic to record).

  • @sepultallif ah okey okey=) thanks!

  • One of the few Jason bass-lines I actually like.

  • haha that's david ellefson in the pic

  • @keepthrashalive no David Ellefson never used Alembic's.

  • It misses the 12 string clack during the main riff :(

  • @Hbirdman1994 They where all recorded into seperate tracks, i think the idea of that came up after they recorded most of the songs, they just threw that in over the top of the rough mix i guess

  • @Ironclaw666 Ok cheers I just thought it was weird because it intro 12 string but no riff 12 string

  • @Hbirdman1994 The 12-string was used only for the intro.

  • stop arguing whos better all of the bassists are good and transformed Metallica in there own way and it really doesnt matter whos better it just matters about the music.

  • Heavy as hell.

    Amazing...

  • This is Jason on the picture.

  • What's the name of the guitar on the picture? That kicks ass

  • @ImDronek alembic elan5 series 1. He had the series 2 for the BA tour

  • 1:28 - 2:00 EPIC...

  • This is why Jason is the best Bassist ever in metallica, because I always does what a Bass player should do and that is keep a really good tempo and rythm with his balanced picking. Thats where Trujillo and Cliff lacks. Trujillo doesen't get that flow going he just hammers and it sounds like its hacking forward not that smooth as Jason does. And thats why live performances from 1987-2000 are so great.

  • @TBoneMontana Jason is also equally as technically skilled as Cliff Burton- anyone who disagrees with that is a fucking idiot who knows nothing about bass. The shit Jason wrote in Flotsam and jetsam is harder than something like Orion or call of ktulu, for example.

Jason is the best bassist Metallica have ever had- they were fucking stupid to not allow him to write anything.

  • @ToaJoe

Yes but its a hard point to prove to those who has opionon about instrument which they have 0 knowledge about. I've bin a musician for a long time and Jason is by far the best metallica bassist.

  • @TBoneMontana Exactly. Most retards think that if some bassist plays with their fingers, they are somehow better than a pick bassist. It's a fucking con. People who think fingerstyle is more difficult than picking are just LAZY, and cannot be bothered to train their fingers properly.

  • @ToaJoe

I play both styles and it depends on what you are playing. Metallica sounds more powerful with a pick player and you get a better rythm with it. And pick is not easier too play I actually thinks pick is way harder too be good at than with fingers. And Jason is one of the best metal bassists for sure I think he flatout owns Rob and you can hear it because Metallica sucks now live. And Death Magnetic have nothing special in its basstrack its just Rob following James.

  • @TBoneMontana I couldn't ever put it better than you, dude! And also, I thought I was the only one who thinks it's harded with a pick.

  • @TBoneMontana I can def agree with that. I find it so much easier to keep a rhythm with fingers than a pick. The pick throws me off and I usually end up hitting unwanted strings lol. But I don't practice enough with a pick so that's my own undoing.

  • @burningkarma i play bass with a pick because i had only known how to play 6string guitar for like 3 months so it was just more natural for me to use a pick...ibut im like the opposite of you were as you cant play with a pick i cant play with my fingers...and if i do i have to put my middle finger over my index and make a giant yoda finger kinda thing...it always ends up sounding like geezer butler when its distorted and wah'd but total shit when it isnt haha

  • @ToaJoe finally someone with some sense, my thoughts exaclty! I ownder if Tallica wuduv taken the step towards hard rock like they did in the 90s if they let Newsted have more say.I read somewhere Het saying the stuff Jason was writing was very progressive/metal and they (Lars&Het) wanted to do "other stuff".

  • @conradsz Glad someone accepts what I'm saying.

Well, interestingly enough, Jason originally wrote 'my friend of misery' for the black album hoping it to follow the tradition of being an instrumental. Instead, they only used one of his riffs and commercialized it. Jason told the band after the making of reload that he wanted to go back to playing the 80's thrash stuff, but James said no, adding to his frustration and partially the reason he left the band.

  • @ToaJoe

Jason said that? Dyou have a link or something?

Also, would you agree Jason should rejoin Flots? =o

  • The hair looks nothing like Cliff's, I think it's Jason. The posture as well, and the fact that he's using A PICK...

  • ive never seen jason play on a 5 string before

  • @MrMaicoman

Moscow 1991 he plays on a 6 string. It's fucking kickass.

  • @Scarecrow545 He used a 6-string Alembic Europa bass on EVERY live performance of "Sad But True" from 1991 until 1995 or 1996, whenever he got his Sadowsky basses. Not just Moscow.

  • @sepultallifly

    Yeah, it's awesome.

  • @Scarecrow545 That's actually one of the reasons I got a 6-string bass :-P

  • @Scarecrow545

    I wish I could afford one =/

    need money for cymbals though

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMaicoman Have you been living under a rock?

  • its obviously jason cus out of all 3 hes the only one 2 use an elembic elan and the only one who's bass says "UKCUF"

  • I wonder if you could possibly get anymore idiotic people who don't comprehend that with the release of Guitar Hero Metallica, that master tracks are no longer some big secret.......

regardless, thanks for saving me the hassle of ripping em or hunting them down. As a bassist and lifelong Metalli-Nut these are pure nirvana for me.

  • oh yeah... it is him:D the ring on the small finger ...:D

    metallica rocks! \m/

  • He does the intro on 12string bass.

  • It IS Jason. It's exactly his way to pick, his manners of standing onstage, his hair, and the Justice stage behind.
