It's not the first time military technology has failed; in the Vietnam war the us introduced the F4 phantom and believed that it's radar & BVR missiles made dogfighting obsolete.

It's not the first time military technology has failed; in the Vietnam war the us introduced the F4 phantom and believed that it's radar & BVR missiles made dogfighting obsolete.
It was an almost complete flop, the BVR missiles being almost innefective against fighters... If the majority of the us pilots hadn't been veterans then the F4s wouldn't have stood a chance against the more agile opposing craft which possessed lower stall speeds.
