Why do they only show black people in this videos as carriers? The doctor in the beginning of the video clearly stated that it was a trait prevalent in people of African, MEDITERRANEAN, AND ASIAN descent! Sickle cell is not a just trait/disease carried by just us black people...

I have an ACTIVE trait and suffer with pain, mini-crisis, low blood and severe allergies with a very low immune system. So that means I can't fight off simple things, can use certain things and have to stay clear of certain foods, materials, cleaners, hair care products...it's a hard life sometimes but you can make it work and live as normal of a life as you can.

what kind of iresponsable humanbeing,and less of a person keeps that kinda information to there self when thay find a pertner that they see future in, this vidieo should not even be about dealing with any type of stigmatisem, it should only be about making it known that you should know or get tested for the trait, I have sickle cell trait, and if I see a partner that I want to have a futer with, I make sure I know if she has the trait or not, and I tell her I do.

people with sickle trait ARE NOT HEALTHY. The many of us whom I have talked to have so much pain in our bodies and suffer anemia and thalassemia. The trait can be just as painful and cause just as many complications as the disease. Fibromyalgia my foot, I am suffering from SICKLE CELL C TRAIT DISEASE!

both my parents have sickle cell trait and didnt know until my mum was tested when she was 3 moths pregnant with me! Guess What, i was tested at 1 month old and i do not have sickle cell anaemia OR am i a trait! Very Lucky but couples should check their status as your unborn child may not be as lucky as me!

I disagree. If you have Sickle Cell trait, you are a carrier of 1/2 of the disease.

Education is good, and preventing two people with the SC trait from having a child MAY be helpful in reducing the number of people suffering with Sickle Cell Disease.

What happens if your partner is an AA but theyre not right for you, or you have a baby with a disease like autism or downs syndrome. Is it morally correct to choose someone on the basis of genotype? I watched the video which is great however, you can marry someone who is pre-disposed to other illnesses so do not let the "shell" of these bodies determine how and with who you live your life.

I have done my research about sickle cell and have lived all my life with the affects of the actual disease. My siblings have it. I know what it does to the body, to families. I know that God is able to carry us through. I am also very aware that sickle cell is the #1 heriditary disease. I know about bone marrow transplants, transfuisons, heart problems, breathing problems ulcers, kidney failure, and the death of friends and loved ones. I didn't just research this I live it everyday.

Although most of your information about the disease itself is correct, and although it is true that most people with sickle cell trait do not elxperience crisis, there are people like me (at least 10 people in my family) that suffer with the trait. I was tested at a place where people were educated and progressive enough in their thinking and research to find out what was wrong with me. Please do not give people a false sense of security.

This video is not 100% accurate. I have sickle cell trait with over 40% active sicle cells in my body, and do experience some crisis during times of trauma. This is way it is important to remember that the practice of medicine is just that, it is a practice. it is dangerous to make blanket statements. It is hard for people who have to walk around in pain because of miseducation.
