This comment is now three months old but just in case you still don't know or anyone else has the same question, right click the layer in the layers palette and click add alpha channel. Additionally, you can create a new layer and as the layer fill type select transparency.

I had done that once as well. The way I found to get it back is go to edit>preferences>window management>reset saved windows positions. Once that's done, just close GIMP and re open it. It took my a while to get it back when I first closed that layers window, lol.

when I try to download gimp 2.6 (i've tried 6 times already), for some reason, I still get the old version. Even the 'welcome screen' is the same (cartoony dog). Do you know why this might be happening?

You got the version of GIMP 2.6 from sourceforge, right?

ok n/m i just found how u can to logos go to file then CREATE then logos i was so pissed off when i downloaded gimp 2.6 and they got rid of xtns witch was the only way to get to logos and i litterly just did my entire plant cell project using logos then i downloaded gimp 2.6 and they took away xtns but no woorys if u like using logos its still there

I found something searching in developer's material! You can hide the toolbar and the dock windows using TAB key! In the preferences/windows managements/window manager hints, you can use "normal windows" to make the software work like old versions interface! Now I'll use 2.6!!!

Not sure why it is dark blue. You can use the scale tool, by the perspective, rotate, and move tool. it is a blue icon with two squares, one big, one small.

I hate 2.6 it annoying as shit to have the toolbox on top at all times and if you try to change it back to the old way there is now bugs that force all child windows to the bottom. So the only way to view the toolbox in the normal window mode is to minimize the image window. I do not understand why the hell they would do they would make it either always on top or always on bottom.

I now had to download 2.4 portable because they removed the download to it the actual 2.4 release.

Well I suppose it is a matter of preference. I for one, love that the image window can now be used as a background window, it makes it seem more connected. But if you guys hate it, that's fine. Just a matter of preference.

So your prefer an app that is buggy? Even in the utility mode where the toolbox is on top its buggy. How about the fact that if you go to edit existing text the toolbox window will lower below the image window so you have to minimize image window in order to be able to edit font color/size/spacing. Do you prefer that too? Do you enjoy editing text that you cannot view in real time because you have to minimize the image window in order to do it?

your not counting 2.6's pros. More flame designs, its also much faster. More filters now update in real time. However, I'm not going to argue about 2.6; you like it or you don't. Its fine with me if you don't, why would i force you to like it?

Its wrong to say its faster in general. Some aspects have been improved for efficiency and speed while others for accuracy. Some of the features that now rely on third party graphics modules other then the old core features are more accurate but slower and consume more resources.

not sure what you mean by activate the hue... If you can't get the hue, it may be because the picture is either a png, gif, or bmp with limited colors.

In the layers dialouge, drag the picture of a layer below another picture of a layer. As for hiding, you don't need to hide a layer, do you? I'm not quite sure of your question. And what are KD brushes? GIMP 2.6 is incredibly similar to 2.4. THIS was supposed to be a tutorial on 2.6, lol. PM me if your still having problems; comments have limited word count.

if i make a background with my KD brushes, and then i make a new layer, and put a pic on that layer, and then try to give that pick a sort of glow, how do i select the layer with the KD brushes? i have no fucking clue, thank you for the help if you can give it to me! :D

Sorry, I'm not sure what KD brushes are...

You can apply a glow by going- Alpha to selection, then grow the section by 5 or so, then make a new layer underneith said layer and apply a gaussion blur.

I have a problem with cutting on GIMP 2.6. On 2.4 I was able to cut an image and remove that piece from the entire image but know it just goes to the background color i.e if my background color is red that piece will be red. Please help.

You need to adjust your image size to fit the cut piece, not the layer. Have you ever noticed that when you open a new document on GIMP, the main color will be your background color? Thats whats happening here. For some reason, your version of GIMP 2.6 just does that. Try downloading the bug fix.
