i'm so glad i found this...my son is getting so wiggly, it's becoming impossible to put a diaper on him. i didn't even think about putting the PF in the cover and then putting it on him. thanks!!
@Seattlecarnut He's still in diapers, though we use mostly pockets now. He's showing a lot of signs for readiness, we just aren't pushing it. Since we don't have to pay for diapers, there's no rush and he can go at his own pace!
@burleysgirl616 Although I know there are some people who would disagree with me, I believe that's the best way to go. Why rush toilet training? Let nature make its own decision. I wasn't out of diapers until I was 5, maybe 6 yrs old (or so I'm told).
@burleysgirl616 I agree. Why rush things? Some people are so determined for their children to "grow up" that they either cannot or don't realise that although the child may be ready to toilet train, their bodies still aren't ready. I've been there. I wasn't out of diapers until I was about 5 yrs old! I'm now 37 yrs old.
How big is he in this video? My son is just about 3 mos old, but he's over 16.5 lbs and 25.5 inches (his doc appt. numbers from 2 weeks ago). I'm trying to figure out if I should size up when I order my Thirsties covers tomorrow. Thanks!
Actually, once my baby started on solids and his poop became more solid - I ditched the snappi's and went to using just prefolds with covers. No problems at all.
However, It's much faster if you simply fold the prefold into thirds and tuck it into that pocket at the front of the cover. No need to flare out back and front because you're not securing the prefold that way. It stays in place just fine even with my baby crawling, climbing, and running around.
Hi! I'm planning to cloth diaper and I like this method. Would it be possible to put a piece of velcro on the top front & top back of the cover and on the top front & top back of the diaper to hold it in place?
Sure, that's totally possible. But one of the big plusses to prefolds is that they will fit for so long because you can fold them to fit any size baby. As soon as you add velcro to the front, they aren't one size anymore.

@yayycupcakes I'm glad it helps! Just remember, you're more likely to get poop on the cover this way. It sure is a handy trick, though!

I've been using prefolds and covers for 18mos and have never used any pins or snappis.

I would just use a snappi all the time, even with those kinds of covers. It goes on in a "snap" (hehe, bad pun) so why take a chance?
