@pdstle111062 it is easy technique. at night, set camera to full manual control. ISO 100 or 200. aperture 8. shoot continuous time exposures of 30 seconds. as soon as you catch some lightning, verify result. if too bright, go ISO 100 and f/11. If too dark / distant, go ISO 200 or 400 and/or f/5.6 or f/4. Simply adjust.
@pdstle111062 but the basic starter setting I use, simple to remember, ISO 100 , aperture f/8. sometimes I do longer exposures but the accumulated light might overxpose the entire image. sometimes I do shorter exposures, not waiting the full 30 seconds but closing shutter after lightning hit, to go to next frame. Tripod is good but not always necessary. I have caught numerous lightning handheld shooting. Sometimes it is too dangerous being out with a tripod that can act as lightning rod
