Radiohead can be so clever with their compositions, switching keys mid song and having odd chord changes. But here, they achieved spiritual/euphoric, which is almost strange for them. But somehow it comes off as one of the most natural and unforced songs they've ever written.
The problem with hailing OK Computer as their masterpiece was that any album that followed it, regardless of whether it was better or not, would never receive the same praise. In Rainbows is one of the greatest albums of all time and will never be viewed as such. Shame really.
I am burning all the demons , reining in the beast. I will throw in them away into the bonfire I made dancing to this song!!!! Thank you Radiohead. :o)
I think CeeLo Green is great. An unusual character to say the least with a very unique voice, much like Thom's. But I personally disagree. I've seen his cover of the song, and even though he nailed it....there is something special about Radiohead. I've seen them perform this song live, so...there might be a slight bias on my part. But Gnarls Barkley did do a bang-up job.
@NoobBrood1 Hm..ok, I guess I'll have to see them live ( I never go to concerts...I hate crowds, but I'll have to get off my couch and go see the head) :)
All the arguing about Muse and Radiohead. I love both bands. Matt may have the higher range, but there simply is no comparison to Thoms voice. There is so much emotion in every little lyric. Its not simply a song....its a feeling. You experience every Radiohead song differently and you always come out better for it. No disrespect to Matt and Muse at all, but there simply is none better than the almighty (and first) Radiohead.
i actually like muse but i dont think they hold a candle to radiohead, radiohead came first and more likely were an inspiration to muse. i dont think this is one of those "student surpasses the master" situations either, as far as im concerned radiohead is a timelessly classic band, and this song provides testament to their greatness. this album is collectively my favorite of theirs, i love every song as if it were my first born child.
@musefanforever16 Um, don't start parading your opinion as a fact. Muse are a pretty horrible band in my own opinion. Supermassive whatever is an awfully cheesy song so that's a bad example.
the part from 4:03 is really cool. does anyone think it should go on for longer, or do you like the fade? (seems like this bit could be developed more perhaps)
This is my favorite off of In Rainbows. I was expecting something else, but this song just completely blew me away. I've never heard another song that sounds quite like this, so ethereal, almost like it's there, but not there.
@dragoon84 It's my favorite, too. I think I just realized this a week ago or so... all of a sudden it just kind of popped up ahead of the others! the opening percussion parts, the chill guitar, thom's soaring voice. and at when he goes down slightly at 3:18 ! i get chills.
is anyone else amazed by thom's vocal range? i mean can anyone else on earth even come close to it? he goes from low like on creep to high like on this...he is the most gifted singer there is
@iFrankie27 That's an insult to Matt. Matt is THE best singer in the world. He's the lead singer of Muse, not Radiohead. No one will ever be better than Matt or Muse, but Radiohead is pretty good, tho they don't even come close to comparing.
@flyingwombatperson Matthew Bellamy :D He is the best singer in the whole world, and he has the strongest voice in they're genre (way stronger than Radiohead^^) and no one will ever compare to Muse <3 So, couldn't agree more :P
@jskala4 Matthew Bellamy just doesn't come close to it, he tops it. Listen to Plug in baby, and how deep he goes, and then all of a sudden he's super high! And then Supermassive black hole just blows Radiohead out of the books. Muse is the best band in the world, and Matt has a much better and stronger voice and range than Tom.
"Because we seperate like ripples on a blank shore.." that is the most beautiful line in the entire song I love it! its very powerful the way he sings it.
lovely music. unparalled in my ears, but keep your opinions on lyrics and meanings to your self, that's how to enjoy music best! think of it like magic! don't try to shatter the illusion for us meekel mortal bags!
All these lyrics are wrong. These are the correct ones: Reckoner You can't take it with you dancing for your pleasure You are not to blame for bittersweet distractor dare not speak it's name dedicated to all human beings because we separate like ripples on a blank shore Reckoner take me with yer dedicated to all human beings
@radioheadyorke Pretty sure you're wrong, I thought it was "dedicated to all human beings", so the "you" you are hearing is actually the "hu" of "human".
all though this version doesn't do the actual mp3 any justice .. this song is by far the most powerful vocal track on the album .. the production on it is flawless .. the progression is perfection. can it be the best on the album ?
Reckoner Can you take it with you Disavow the pleasure You were not to blame for Bittersweet distractors Dare not speak his name Did I cater to all you All your needs? Because we separate it ripples our reflections Because we separate it ripples our reflections Reckoner Did I cater to all you All your needs?

The lyrics aren't supposed to mean one thing, they mean many things to many different people.
That's what Radiohead is, just try and find your own personal meaning.
