ea90744: the reason amtrak "GOT" two different types of trains is simple....thats what they have to work with...The rail system is underfunded. hopefully this will change.
how come Amtrak got 2 different types of cars on the San Joaquin. Sometimes u see some of the 6000 series Alstom cars and u see some of the 8000 series MK cars
The Reason For That Is Amtrak California (CalTrans) Bought The Original Order For MK And After A While They Went Out Of Business, Alstom Took Over The Orders For CalTrans And Later Amtrak For The Surfliners Hence The Cars Looking Similar

this isn't an ex Surfliner cabcar. This is originallly and always has been an Amcal cabcar. Don't be fooled by there similar numbers and look.
