Why would anyone spend that kind of money on unreliability is beyond me. Building a super fast, cool ride is one thing, but making it last is another and people don't seem to appreciate this. I'll respect the Europeans when they make a supercar reliable. Go Lexus!
japtuner and m1 dude, chill out, both are amazing cars, the lexus overall is better because how many people do you see driving m3's? a lot, and lexus is-f's? very little, some people just want a little exclusivity, and i love german cars, dads got a 2010 gt3rs, moms got a mercedes glk 450, n bro's got an s5, n im getting an is-f, just healthy competition, no reason to bicker over all this
hey jbayse99 your a fucking idiot bmw uses real leather so fuck off i own a 7 series and an m3 and everything is real in there you probably own a crappy old lexus and think its tha best in every way bmw has been around way longer than lexus so learn your automobiles before you commet a big boy video
@gdgmerg You are a fucking moron. The 3-series base interior is "leatherette", not real leather. Look it up. Learn. I drive an old Lexus? Actually it's a 2010 IS350. I'm sure a lot newer than your POS 2000 7-series. Also, I'm thinking Lexus is too high for your standards. BMW makes NOTHING than can come close to the LF-A. NOTHING. Their slogan should change to The Ultimate Driving Machines for Casual Drivers. With the LSD, the newest IS-F already beats the M3 on the track.
@jbayse99 Actually, the M3 has been praised by most reviewers as being better than the ISF for several reasons, so to say the M3 doesn't come close is just flat out wrong. Furthermore, the fake tailpipes, cheese ball body kits, and the general failure of lexus to catch up with the times and produce something even remotely comparable to the i-drive/command center/MMI is really kinda sad. I own a new lexus myself, but its hardly "king" of anything aside from resale. But the ISF isn't bad...
@sacdude20 I am not saying the M3 sucks at all. It is (obviously) an amazing car. The newest IS-F, however, beats it on the track. I agree, the tailpipes are weak, but the body kit is aggressive. I'd love to see all of these auto magazines do a comparison of the M3 with the 2010+ IS-F. You have to admit, BMW has absolutely nothing that compares to the LF-A and Lexus has come on VERY strong in the performance world.
@jbayse99 See, the comparisons I've seen all say that the ISF doesn't handle as well which is why it loses on the track. I think Lexus did a great job for this being its first stab at it, but they have a little ways to go for a few reasons. The first is I think people are turned off by the "Gone in 60 Seconds" tween body kit that just makes it look like some 16yo kid got a hold of it. The second is its technology isn't up to par with the C63 or the M3. But again, its a great first try.
@sacdude20 The ones you've seen praise the M3 over IS-F are 08 vs 08 comparisons. The newest IS-F now has the LSD, which dramatically improved its handling. So much improved that it beat the best time the M3 posted in VIR's Lightning Lap. I made the LF-A comment to someone a few comments back who said the M3 destroys all Lexus's and another comment from another person said all BMWs are better than all Lexus's. BTW, the LF-A destroys the GT-R in every cornering aspect. GT-R is pure sex though.
@jbayse99 As for your comment on the LF-A, I'm a bit confused as to what your point is...BMW choosing not to make a supercar doesn't immediately discount the entire brand. Especially when you consider that the GTR is $350,000 cheaper and outruns the LF-A in the 0-60 and keeps up with it in the 1/4 mile, it seems like more of a flop to me. I'd imagine if BMW made a car and sold it for over $400k that it would either keep up with or outrun the LF-A. Its a cool car, but not ground breaking.
Announcement! Consumer Reports is a big joke. All those BMW owners reporting repairs they had to do their cars causing their reliability rating to be poor is just one big conspiracy againts BMW. Boy some people really dig deep to defend BMW.
all bimmer lovers who hate the isf are getting scared because the competition is getting way too close. The ISF is faster than the m3 at the nurburgring so the bimmer loves should be scared!
@Miike92 Well realistically Lexus will continue to trail BMW forever, don't take that the wrong way but thats just the case. I also wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of the ISF all together in a few years. But I'll give them a high five for making their own car rather than a copy.
@m19921992 what do you mean trail? Lexus is the number one luxurious car company if anything the bmw trails lexus. If you mean when it comes to sports cars, lexus is really close behind bmw, but Lexus has already made a car that demolishes all bimmers, LFA
@Miike92 Please don't waste my time. You haven't refuted any of my points. As for the LFA, its a low-production, expensive, rushed car. The LFA can't out perform a Porsche 911 turbo 997. Also BMW is smart enough to know that releasing a super car that wont make a profit during a recession isn't a good idea. Also BMW doesn't need a super car to sell their brand. Lexus Sales could use a pick me up. Seeing that your only a 17 year old shows me that you have no idea what your talking about.
@m19921992 how do you feel when you get outsmarted by a 17 year old. The LFA was definately not rushed. iF you knew anything about it, they spent 10 years on it. BMW wont do it b/c they cant afford it. Lexus on the other hand is big and profitable enough company to endure the loss from teh supercar sales. Lexus is teh number one luxury company, but since you know everything you probably knew that. And what evidence you have that 997 is faster?
@Miike92 You certainly did no such out smarting. BMW can easily afford to make a super car, sales figures and profit as evidence. As for Lexus "officially" being the most luxurious car brand, it depends on how you define luxury. Obviously we have different ideas, and thats ok. As for the Porsche 911 turbo 997 being faster, look anywhere. The 2010 911 turbo will blow your mind!
@Miike92 You did no such outsmarting. BMW can easily afford to build a super car, and will soon. BMW sales figures, profit ,and repeat business as proof. As for Lexus "Officially" being the most luxurious car brand, thats subjective and depends on how you define luxury. We obviously have different ideas and thats ok. As for the 911 turbo 997 being faster the proof is everywhere, even here on youtube. When you make your own money you can spend if however you want thats the beauty of it.
all these people who call us lexus haters on every ISFvsM3 vid are getting on my nerves. Especially when they cant refute the fact that the M3 is in fact better in every way. They start talking about how BMW is unreliable.... BMW is very reliable!! Go compare the ISF reliability to the M3's!! Also lets not forget the last few years toyota has had massive failures on millions of cars!!!
Uh thats not what my buddy said who works in a BMW dealership.
Uh that not what consumer report says
Uh thats not what my friends who have BMW says.
And find finally that's not what my friends who are mechanics says.
Toyota is #1 when it comes to reliability plain and simple. You can have your prestige or class. Not hating just saying. And yes I can buy an M3 if I want to.
@Autoshopwing Consumer reports? Really that is the most worthless automotive Literature. Toyota by all counts has slipped in reliability over the past few years, and BMW has improved. While this may not be true for all Lexus/Toyota's the IS-F is a nightmare, go check out Lexus forums. The New M3 has been amazing in every way, they had a small programming issue with the earlier DCT but thats been fixed. I think that if you want a reliable high performance sedan go with the M3.
@m19921992 bmws are gay. And its not subjective that lexus is the number one luxurious car company, its evidential and proven. Lexus had only been for moderate drivers without any sports cars, but now they have a car that is able to compete with the m3 and a supercar that outperforms many supercars from ferrari and lambo. Lexus is expanding its horizon with performance vehilcles and will only strive even more in sales
@Miike92 The LFA can't out perform anything. Not the Ferrari 458 Italia, Not the Porsche 911 Turbo 997(2), Not the Lamborghini Superleggera, Not the Audi R8 5.2, Not the Corvette ZR1, Not the Nissan GTR, and all of these cars are half the price or less. Sorry if your not over the age of 55 and have frail hips, Lexus is crap.
@m19921992 hahahaha. Obviously you dont know much about the car. And Im pretty sure it out performs all the cars youv mentioned including one you didnnt, the Ferrari enzo. Check up its nurburgring time then talk to me
@Miike92 There is no official lap time yet. Constant rumors of a 7minute 24sec lap time but nothing official. Toyota's Chief test driver died in that car by the way, crashed head on into a BMW 3 series. When I see a 3rd party lap time I'll believe it. It'll be years before Lexus can offer a car that can compete with a similar price, they just can't make it cheap enough because they've always focused on making cars like the corolla.
@m19921992 it doesnt matter if its official or unofficial it did it in 7:24, toyota just doesnt want to flount it out. 7:24 is faster than all the cars youv mentioned
@Miike92 oh come on..... Official or nothing. No cheating, No Racing slicks. If anyone's go to cheat it'll be Toyota, they've got a long and well documented history of it.
@m19921992 haha thats actually a funny joke. But nah, reporters reported that the LFA got 7:24 every lap it took. Its just japanese engineering that makes it soo fast, just like a GTR but even faster
@m19921992 what do you mean cant make cheap enough because they are always focused on making cars like the corolla? the corolla is a cheap car and lexus has a tendency of catching up fast
@JAPANTUNER100 Ok first off your name exposes your obvious bias, Secondly I'm sure most will agree that your sentence makes absolutely no sense at all.
@m19921992 haha personal attacks? You clearly have no idea what a personal attack and honestly if your just going to be a bitch that won't shut up about Lexus not being up to par, you might as well just stop wasting your time. Just accept the fact sooner or later Lexus will be better. Btw "Luck would have it your an American"
@JAPANTUNER100 Yep I'm American, it doesn't bother me because I don't fit the stereotypes. Your right Lexus isn't up to my standards or my taste, if its up to yours then buy what you want. I don't care, I also don't care what you use to rationalize or support your choice. I have my choices and you have yours. I'm sick of getting responses to a comment I posted 6 months ago because some JDM ricer boy wants to pick a fight because I don't like what he likes.
@JAPANTUNER100 I certainly don't drive a Camaro, I've got a 1995 BMW 540i 6 speed and a 2000 BMW 740i sport. I don't really care for American cars either but there are a few I like.
@m19921992 actually those rides aren't half bad, my name is JAPANTUNER because my dad has Supra, my mom has a RX7, my sister has a RX8 and I have a Silvia S15 so kinda obvious lol
god i hate this reputation BMWs have gotten over the years, "assholes drive them" Maybe they have so many problems because of the snobby drivers that don't give a shit about taking care of their car. Dont get me wrong i love bmw,, i just hate these drivers that give it a bad reputation. I always hear stories of BMW drivers cutting people off on the road, not saying thanks, gets me mad really.
Plus.. the ISf has the best exhaust ever. the quad over tips are a bit wierd..but the exhaust is so meaty.....BMW owners ask me who i bought my exhaust from. stock brother... love it...
BMW hands down has the better styling. I won and ISF and love it. best car I ever owned and it won't break. styling is a bit iffy but its got so much power that its just so sick. i laugh all the way to work at 95 mph... and i drift one corner near my office every day!!! the car is sooo much fun.
WTF are you talking about?! What constant problem? Lexus is no match to BMW! IS-F has bigger engine so it produces more torque, but BMW has better gear, better suspension, better exhaust (ass you know - or not - Lexus has 4 endings of exhaust but uses only two of'em, and BMW uses all of'em) - BMW = pure fun and quality, LEX is just a Fashion device - that's all.
you really need to get your fact updated. just go check Detroit Free Press, it says that : Toyota led all automakers with most recalled vehicles in 2009 ...
VVT-i boosting output to 210 hp (157 kW) and 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) torque. Is it something I can be proud of?? Any good? I do not anything about cars... but I like fast cars and nice cars such as these on the video.
Those sound like some retarted 0-60 numbers 4.1 sec in a 400hp 3700lb car? I seen tests on lighter more powerful cars that struggle to stay around those numbers. I would like to see them test this and see if either of these cars can come close to there numbers.
You sound like a muscle car guy...remember, its not about the hp its about the torque. That is why German/Jap cars so often outrun the American competitors with nearly HALF the Hp.
American auto makers sell to those suffering from small man syndrome...those who want really loud cars that draw endless attention, be it good or bad.
When it comes to results, they're often outrun by its foreign competitors and all they can do is accelerate in a straight line...they're a joke on the track
@sacdude20 actually TQ numbers on most european and jap cars are less than the american equiv. Thats the power of displacement. 2008 m3 4.0L v8 with 414bhp and 300 ft\lbs of torque- comperable hp would be the new 2010 camaro, 6.2l v8 426hp and 420ft\lbs of torque. M3 is better on the track because of its chassis, suspension, and weight distribution. Not superior TQ.
@sacdude20 lmao, all of what you said was wrong, i believe i made it amply apparent, but apparently you seem to suffer from small brain syndrome...so all of what you said was wrong kiddo :) happy?
@ADD8oi HA, wow you must be so rooted and deep! Clearly, you're one of those people who spend hours on youtube trying to argue with others by making childish comments like that. If you really knew what you were talking about, you'd grow a pair and explain yourself. Until then, you look like the biggest idiot commenting here because you lack the basic intellect to prove a point...that, and your writing skills speak volumes about your age and maturity level. Good job!
@sacdude20 lmao really kid? everything in the comment you had stated was incorrect, are you too stupid to understand crystal clear english? i guess so considering how even after i made it clear you are still confused
Its not just about torque, its about the tires, firmness of the suspension, weight distribution, drive-train, etc.
And no, German/Jap cars with nearly half the hp aren't beating American cars... Corvette zr1 and Viper srt10 acr both have very competitive lap times very few production cars can beat.
If you're talking torque, many American cars actually have more mid-range torque than japanese/european cars.
My point is, Many American cars are not a joke on the track, its not the 60's.
yeah okay. and the other 100+ videos your see on the right of this Comment Column must all talk bullshit. Do yourself a favor and count all the reviews that vote in favor of the M3, especially the most accredited ones because their extensive caliber of testing a variety of cars. i.e Top Gear UK :)
both cars would be a blast to have, m3 a high rev line, but that is why it brake 2 much, the lexus is more reliable because of its low rev line, for me lexus!
i go with the ISF because it pretty much has the same thing that the M3 has luxury, power, and looks, the ISF is more easy friendly for car owners to maintain it them self, M3 is nice but its a pain in the rear just buying parts and maintaining it my money goes to the ISF i cant believe toyota came out with this bad boy cant wait for the new Lexus LFA ( Supra ) to come out take on the M5
The LFA is not going to be competing with the m5 their not even in the same class and the is-f is no wher near as user friendly as the m3 when you consider that it doesnt satisfy you enough on the track or on the road the is-f has absoutley crap brakes and their's bareley any feel to it's steering when the road get's tight or windy and they just completley screwed up the is-f's looks and it's 8 gear's are pretty stupid when all the power and torque is in the high revs the m3 is more satisfying.
as far as I have heard ISF is much more user friendly. you have to be an expert to handle the bimmer, whereas the ISF is a race car for everyone.
overall, great first entry by Lexus in this very tough sport car segment. Notice how neither Acura nor Infiniti have a car like this, though both are considered sportier than Lexus.
no no no no the is-f is no where near as user friendly as the m3 and the is-f is certenlly no were near as good to drive as the m3 is the m3 is a driver's car and it doesnt take that much skill to drive unlike the IS-F that has issue's with over steer and under steer and it bareley handle's it's power propoerly considering it all that time and efort went into giveing it 8 gear's no offense in my opinion this is what i have to say about the is-f;
haha what? time and effort into 8 gears? that tranny was taken from the LS460. It already had 8 gears.
and the 8 gears are not for racing, but for fuel economy. for racing, you don't need more than 5 or 6 gears. But the 7th and 8th gear is awesome for highway cruising. I've heard of people getting 28 mpg on the highway with the IS-F in 8th gear
As far as i'm concrened the m3 is superior to the is-f and who care's about fuel economy any way no one that's who unless your talking about hybrid electric that no one is interested in (Their are exeption's rare one's) what make's up a good car is how it's engineered and how good it is to drive and in term's of driveing experience's and engineering the m3 is superior to the is-f.
people who have to pay the gas guzzler tax care about fuel economy. And there are only 5 cars in this class in the world: C63 AMG, IS-F, RS4, M3, CTS-V. IS-F might not be the best, but its a competitor and its a pretty cool car to drive.
I also wish the suspension was softer, more like in the M3. IS-F's suspension is hard like in a real race car. It's horrible on bumpy roads. Thats the only thing i dont like about IS-F
yea the merc won 2/3 so its better and im not the most talented driver so i don't care about a little bit better handling. also acceleration is all that u can use on roads so wats the point of a high speed handling car
is-f is jus gud in a str8 path. its not always bout the straightaway. roads hav curves and the M3 devours corners like a beast and plus the is-f rear wheels r the same width as the front tires wich gives it less traction than the m3 wich has thicker tires. the m3 overall is a beast and nothing can beat it
Tell ya what...after 50k miles I would MUCH rather have the Lexus. BMW sucks when it comes to maintenance. Trust me...I know. I've had BMWs for 15 years and they are very, very expensive to maintain. These cars just break down...period. Too much Oktoberfest I guess.
That is 4 years OR 50k miles. A BMW can go 50k miles no problem. It's after 75k you really start to pay the price. All the 4 year plan covers is things that go wrong that shouldn't go wrong in the first place. Basically, it's just oil changes and filters. Hell, a tune up (spark plugs) isn't even due til at least 75k miles and breaks etc. won't go bad until about the same time. My M3 started falling apart at about 75k miles.
Well i dont know, i've had a couple BMW's now and they have treated me very well, my M3 now has 108,000kms on it and all i've had to do is turn the front rotors(and service).
I've always thought my M3 might have been made the day after Octoberfest. But I have a 745 Li now and even that one just had the tranny replaced under extended warranty at only 65k miles.
Honest, I was very surprised that Lexus is even coming close to an M3...and it seems that it is but the M3 is still doing what it does best...everything.
It's not difficult for followers to come close, but, probably 30 years later it is still close but no banana. because how close it could come depends on how well it follows, but to be really on par or surpass depends on how it directs and creates.
"Small sport saloons, that is what BMW does. That is what they are best at. Everything else tries to be a copy, but they are copies nonetheless".
M Power baby! No surprises there!
M3 is the best all around car.
Like the reviewer said, it is much more comfortable in every day driving (with fully adjustable suspension) and around a race track and straight line race, it owned the IS-F (especially around a race track).
the M3 may certainly be a better track car, but the IS-F is definitely the best of both worlds. 9/10 people who buy these cars will never use them to their full potential anyways.
M3 also comes with a true 6 speed manual (and a 7 speed dual clutch), both of which are much superior to the 8 speed LS460 transmission in the IS-F that sucks a lot of power (drivetrain loss of a 25%).
BMW engines are generally bullet proof. The lexus is nice, but I'd much rather a screaming small displacement V8 like the m3. And 8 gears seems like over kill for me, I wonder how much power is lost to the ground with that many cogs
Agreed. As well, the IS-F's auto is not a dual-clutch, so at higher revs you're going to get some slowed, jerky shifts.
A testament to German engineering is exactly as you said - BMW engines are bulletproof. The M3's V-8 puts 414 hp to the tires, 2 hp less than the IS-F, but has a full litre less of displacement. That's awesome.
Besides, there's really nothing like hearing a V-8 scream past at 7500 revs.
And the gearing on the IS-F is actually quite good (my uncle drives one as a daily).
The gearing on the IS-F is quite "normal" for sports automatics and then the 6th, 7th, and 8th gears are rarely used. I don't really know WHY they would use 8 gears... When I drive his car, even cruising on the highway at 85-90mph, I never go above 7th. And even then I ONLY go to 7th for that specific purpose.
They should drop a few gears and save the weight. The car's too damn heavy as it is.
I have a silver ISF. 7th and 8th gears are mostly to give you amazing gas milage like 27 mpgs I'm getting on the highway when I go on road trips. You are correct, on the track you don't use them much unless you are going for 170 mph.
Car and driver facts on both cars are a bit off. There no way the 6 speed manual M3 can hit 4.1 sec 0-60 which more likely to hit 4.5 sec and it has a top speed of 155mph instead of 161. I think they gave some credit to the M3 for better sales.
@orielsy It really depends on what your looking for, for me the lexus is too soft and plush. Where the M3 has sportier interior with a cleaner more thought out look. I also think Lexus takes to many low grade materials from its lower end cars, which is a huge disappointment.
@m19921992 low grade materials? LOL, do some research, homeboy. My IS350 has the same wood that is used on high-end Yamaha pianos. BMW, in fact, uses "leatherette" as standard for their 3-series car. FAKE LEATHER! Talk about cheap! Lexus's standard leather also has nice thick stitching- like the Jaguars did. Your arguments are weak and not fact-based. Work on it and get back to me.
@jbayse99 Enjoy your Toyota suspension, engine, brakes and frame leave me alone. Nice to see Lexus owners showing their true class with words like "homeboy". If you remember not to long ago Lexus sold there cars with cloth. Yes BMW does use leatherette on their 3 series as standard, however Leather is available and I guarantee it is much better than the Lexus leather. Go compare for yourself. Lexus is cheap, they use Toyota parts and sell them as a Lexus at a premium.
@m19921992 Again, your argument shows no real substance, just subjective garbage. Come up with some empirical data and then talk to me. And about the LF-A not being able to outperform anyone? They posted the same time as a Pagani Zonda. That is faster than the Enzo, Carrera GT and Veyron. Dude, just quit arguing. Calling a Lexus cheap is like calling Jessica Alba ugly. Every auto journalist always praises the top-quality of the Lexus interior. Find me one article speaking to the contrary.
@m19921992 I just refuted your points in my comments. First, about Lexus's quality- I stated Lexus uses real leather and high-end woodgrain. BMW uses fake leather- leatherette. How embarrassing. Second, you said the LF-A can't outperform anything. There are only two production cars that beat it (Viper and 911 GT2) on the Nurburgring, I guess you could say your substance-lacking comments were refuted... to say the least. You are obviously too emotional to argue intelligently and see truth.
I agree the BMW wins this comparison but day to day its too problematic. I had the previous gen M3 for 13 months and put 17k miles on it 7 trips to the dealer twice in a back of a tow truck. No Thanks. My current IS350 has been trouble free for 2 years and 32k miles.
Yeap I remember the Road & Track comparison with 8 cars including the IS350 and 335 the bmw did win the comparison with Lexus coming in 2nd place driving dynamics the Bmw wins hands down. But even on a couple days test drive the bmw suffered electrical problems like ABS failure that even made the car spin. Airbag light came on and traction control light came on, talk about problematic. Even on # of recalls the 3 series has way too many. Too bad really I would own 1 if it was reliable.

Not even a competition. The most beautiful designed, well-balanced driving machine in the world. Lexus is for old people who are lacking refinement in their lives. BMW delivers on luxury and has a much bigger wow factor.
dude, these guys can drive. As for as the tackiness of the add-ons of the IS-F, it is true it makes the car design not that nice compared the the M3's beautifully designed materials. It looks like the nicest car on the street and a really good value but I still dig the 335i as far as price.
That's true. It's funny when I see the 335i Coupe & Convertible almost everyother car in California, those 335i has so many sales, everyone in Cali has one.
The M3 defined this style of car and still does, no matter how well developed or how many generations in, you're always going to be one behind BMW (case in point Audi's RS4, phenomenal car but not up to the BM's dynamic level). Everyone else is playing catch up.
M3 as usual. M3 is head and shoulders above the IS-F in every way. No surprises there! M3 is the benchmark Every single comparison by different magazines, different race track drivers have given the same result. M3 wins every single time.

What the hell did you expect, its a sport-sedan. Doesn't matter about interior as much as the performance. That's why your looking in a sports-sedan. Once again BMW is best in its class, M3 or 3-Series its best again.
Im with you as far as the interior on both cars the Lexus has the advantage here. Specially hated the stupid Idrive, even after a year of ownership it was still hard to use.
Why would anyone spend that kind of money on unreliability is beyond me. Building a super fast, cool ride is one thing, but making it last is another and people don't seem to appreciate this. I'll respect the Europeans when they make a supercar reliable. Go Lexus!

You have to admit, BMW has absolutely nothing that compares to the LF-A and Lexus has come on VERY strong in the performance world.
jbayse99 11 months ago
@jbayse99 See, the comparisons I've seen all say that the ISF doesn't handle as well which is why it loses on the track. I think Lexus did a great job for this being its first stab at it, but they have a little ways to go for a few reasons. The first is I think people are turned off by the "Gone in 60 Seconds" tween body kit that just makes it look like some 16yo kid got a hold of it. The second is its technology isn't up to par with the C63 or the M3. But again, its a great first try.
sacdude20 11 months ago
@sacdude20 The ones you've seen praise the M3 over IS-F are 08 vs 08 comparisons. The newest IS-F now has the LSD, which dramatically improved its handling. So much improved that it beat the best time the M3 posted in VIR's Lightning Lap. I made the LF-A comment to someone a few comments back who said the M3 destroys all Lexus's and another comment from another person said all BMWs are better than all Lexus's. BTW, the LF-A destroys the GT-R in every cornering aspect. GT-R is pure sex though.
jbayse99 11 months ago

Autoshopwing 1 year ago
all bimmer lovers who hate the isf are getting scared because the competition is getting way too close. The ISF is faster than the m3 at the nurburgring so the bimmer loves should be scared!
Miike92 1 year ago
@Miike92 Well realistically Lexus will continue to trail BMW forever, don't take that the wrong way but thats just the case. I also wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of the ISF all together in a few years. But I'll give them a high five for making their own car rather than a copy.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 what do you mean trail? Lexus is the number one luxurious car company if anything the bmw trails lexus. If you mean when it comes to sports cars, lexus is really close behind bmw, but Lexus has already made a car that demolishes all bimmers, LFA
Miike92 1 year ago
@Miike92 Please don't waste my time. You haven't refuted any of my points. As for the LFA, its a low-production, expensive, rushed car. The LFA can't out perform a Porsche 911 turbo 997. Also BMW is smart enough to know that releasing a super car that wont make a profit during a recession isn't a good idea. Also BMW doesn't need a super car to sell their brand. Lexus Sales could use a pick me up. Seeing that your only a 17 year old shows me that you have no idea what your talking about.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 how do you feel when you get outsmarted by a 17 year old. The LFA was definately not rushed. iF you knew anything about it, they spent 10 years on it. BMW wont do it b/c they cant afford it. Lexus on the other hand is big and profitable enough company to endure the loss from teh supercar sales. Lexus is teh number one luxury company, but since you know everything you probably knew that. And what evidence you have that 997 is faster?
Miike92 1 year ago
@Miike92 You certainly did no such out smarting. BMW can easily afford to make a super car, sales figures and profit as evidence. As for Lexus "officially" being the most luxurious car brand, it depends on how you define luxury. Obviously we have different ideas, and thats ok. As for the Porsche 911 turbo 997 being faster, look anywhere. The 2010 911 turbo will blow your mind!
m19921992 1 year ago
@Miike92 You did no such outsmarting. BMW can easily afford to build a super car, and will soon. BMW sales figures, profit ,and repeat business as proof. As for Lexus "Officially" being the most luxurious car brand, thats subjective and depends on how you define luxury. We obviously have different ideas and thats ok. As for the 911 turbo 997 being faster the proof is everywhere, even here on youtube. When you make your own money you can spend if however you want thats the beauty of it.
m19921992 1 year ago
all these people who call us lexus haters on every ISFvsM3 vid are getting on my nerves. Especially when they cant refute the fact that the M3 is in fact better in every way. They start talking about how BMW is unreliable.... BMW is very reliable!! Go compare the ISF reliability to the M3's!! Also lets not forget the last few years toyota has had massive failures on millions of cars!!!
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992
Autoshopwing 1 year ago
@Autoshopwing Consumer reports? Really that is the most worthless automotive Literature. Toyota by all counts has slipped in reliability over the past few years, and BMW has improved. While this may not be true for all Lexus/Toyota's the IS-F is a nightmare, go check out Lexus forums. The New M3 has been amazing in every way, they had a small programming issue with the earlier DCT but thats been fixed. I think that if you want a reliable high performance sedan go with the M3.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 bmws are gay. And its not subjective that lexus is the number one luxurious car company, its evidential and proven. Lexus had only been for moderate drivers without any sports cars, but now they have a car that is able to compete with the m3 and a supercar that outperforms many supercars from ferrari and lambo. Lexus is expanding its horizon with performance vehilcles and will only strive even more in sales
Miike92 1 year ago
@Miike92 The LFA can't out perform anything. Not the Ferrari 458 Italia, Not the Porsche 911 Turbo 997(2), Not the Lamborghini Superleggera, Not the Audi R8 5.2, Not the Corvette ZR1, Not the Nissan GTR, and all of these cars are half the price or less. Sorry if your not over the age of 55 and have frail hips, Lexus is crap.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 hahahaha. Obviously you dont know much about the car. And Im pretty sure it out performs all the cars youv mentioned including one you didnnt, the Ferrari enzo. Check up its nurburgring time then talk to me
Miike92 1 year ago
@Miike92 There is no official lap time yet. Constant rumors of a 7minute 24sec lap time but nothing official. Toyota's Chief test driver died in that car by the way, crashed head on into a BMW 3 series. When I see a 3rd party lap time I'll believe it. It'll be years before Lexus can offer a car that can compete with a similar price, they just can't make it cheap enough because they've always focused on making cars like the corolla.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 it doesnt matter if its official or unofficial it did it in 7:24, toyota just doesnt want to flount it out. 7:24 is faster than all the cars youv mentioned
Miike92 1 year ago
@Miike92 oh come on..... Official or nothing. No cheating, No Racing slicks. If anyone's go to cheat it'll be Toyota, they've got a long and well documented history of it.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 haha thats actually a funny joke. But nah, reporters reported that the LFA got 7:24 every lap it took. Its just japanese engineering that makes it soo fast, just like a GTR but even faster

Those sound like some retarted 0-60 numbers 4.1 sec in a 400hp 3700lb car? I seen tests on lighter more powerful cars that struggle to stay around those numbers. I would like to see them test this and see if either of these cars can come close to there numbers.
goodoldjam 2 years ago
You sound like a muscle car guy...remember, its not about the hp its about the torque. That is why German/Jap cars so often outrun the American competitors with nearly HALF the Hp.
American auto makers sell to those suffering from small man syndrome...those who want really loud cars that draw endless attention, be it good or bad.
When it comes to results, they're often outrun by its foreign competitors and all they can do is accelerate in a straight line...they're a joke on the track
sacdude20 2 years ago 11
@sacdude20 actually TQ numbers on most european and jap cars are less than the american equiv. Thats the power of displacement. 2008 m3 4.0L v8 with 414bhp and 300 ft\lbs of torque- comperable hp would be the new 2010 camaro, 6.2l v8 426hp and 420ft\lbs of torque. M3 is better on the track because of its chassis, suspension, and weight distribution. Not superior TQ.
darrylistheman 1 year ago
@darrylistheman Its because the torque is accessible, better power band.

sacdude20 11 months ago
@sacdude20 lmao really kid? everything in the comment you had stated was incorrect, are you too stupid to understand crystal clear english? i guess so considering how even after i made it clear you are still confused
ADD8oi 11 months ago
@sacdude20
My point is, Many American cars are not a joke on the track, its not the 60's.

both cars would be a blast to have, m3 a high rev line, but that is why it brake 2 much, the lexus is more reliable because of its low rev line, for me lexus!
jetseal1091 2 years ago
i go with the ISF because it pretty much has the same thing that the M3 has luxury, power, and looks, the ISF is more easy friendly for car owners to maintain it them self, M3 is nice but its a pain in the rear just buying parts and maintaining it my money goes to the ISF i cant believe toyota came out with this bad boy cant wait for the new Lexus LFA ( Supra ) to come out take on the M5
spirit407 2 years ago
The LFA is not going to be competing with the m5 their not even in the same class and the is-f is no wher near as user friendly as the m3 when you consider that it doesnt satisfy you enough on the track or on the road the is-f has absoutley crap brakes and their's bareley any feel to it's steering when the road get's tight or windy and they just completley screwed up the is-f's looks and it's 8 gear's are pretty stupid when all the power and torque is in the high revs the m3 is more satisfying.
Towelman20 2 years ago
^ wow talk about bias
pulmonary 2 years ago
as far as I have heard ISF is much more user friendly. you have to be an expert to handle the bimmer, whereas the ISF is a race car for everyone.
overall, great first entry by Lexus in this very tough sport car segment. Notice how neither Acura nor Infiniti have a car like this, though both are considered sportier than Lexus.
normalais 2 years ago
no no no no the is-f is no where near as user friendly as the m3 and the is-f is certenlly no were near as good to drive as the m3 is the m3 is a driver's car and it doesnt take that much skill to drive unlike the IS-F that has issue's with over steer and under steer and it bareley handle's it's power propoerly considering it all that time and efort went into giveing it 8 gear's no offense in my opinion this is what i have to say about the is-f;
What a waste they dont know what there doing.
Towelman20 2 years ago
haha what? time and effort into 8 gears? that tranny was taken from the LS460. It already had 8 gears.
and the 8 gears are not for racing, but for fuel economy. for racing, you don't need more than 5 or 6 gears. But the 7th and 8th gear is awesome for highway cruising. I've heard of people getting 28 mpg on the highway with the IS-F in 8th gear
normalais 2 years ago
As far as i'm concrened the m3 is superior to the is-f and who care's about fuel economy any way no one that's who unless your talking about hybrid electric that no one is interested in (Their are exeption's rare one's) what make's up a good car is how it's engineered and how good it is to drive and in term's of driveing experience's and engineering the m3 is superior to the is-f.
Towelman20 2 years ago
people who have to pay the gas guzzler tax care about fuel economy.
Thats the only thing i dont like about IS-F
normalais 2 years ago

is-f is jus gud in a str8 path. its not always bout the straightaway. roads hav curves and the M3 devours corners like a beast and plus the is-f rear wheels r the same width as the front tires wich gives it less traction than the m3 wich has thicker tires. the m3 overall is a beast and nothing can beat it

Tell ya what...after 50k miles I would MUCH rather have the Lexus. BMW sucks when it comes to maintenance. Trust me...I know. I've had BMWs for 15 years and they are very, very expensive to maintain. These cars just break down...period. Too much Oktoberfest I guess.
racerxnsx 2 years ago
They have the 4 year free maintenace now.
bleckndecker 2 years ago
That is 4 years OR 50k miles. A BMW can go 50k miles no problem. It's after 75k you really start to pay the price. All the 4 year plan covers is things that go wrong that shouldn't go wrong in the first place. Basically, it's just oil changes and filters. Hell, a tune up (spark plugs) isn't even due til at least 75k miles and breaks etc. won't go bad until about the same time. My M3 started falling apart at about 75k miles.
racerxnsx 2 years ago
Well i dont know, i've had a couple BMW's now and they have treated me very well, my M3 now has 108,000kms on it and all i've had to do is turn the front rotors(and service).
bleckndecker 2 years ago
I've always thought my M3 might have been made the day after Octoberfest. But I have a 745 Li now and even that one just had the tranny replaced under extended warranty at only 65k miles.
racerxnsx 2 years ago
Thats too bad, maybe your gettin Friday cars????
bleckndecker 2 years ago
Right...Friday or Monday.
racerxnsx 2 years ago
Honest, I was very surprised that Lexus is even coming close to an M3...and it seems that it is but the M3 is still doing what it does best...everything.
racerxnsx 2 years ago
It's not difficult for followers to come close, but, probably 30 years later it is still close but no banana. because how close it could come depends on how well it follows, but to be really on par or surpass depends on how it directs and creates.

Like Jeremy Clarkson said:
"Small sport saloons, that is what BMW does. That is what they are best at. Everything else tries to be a copy, but they are copies nonetheless".
M Power baby! No surprises there!
M3 is the best all around car.
Like the reviewer said, it is much more comfortable in every day driving (with fully adjustable suspension) and around a race track and straight line race, it owned the IS-F (especially around a race track).
SpeedKlz 2 years ago
the M3 may certainly be a better track car, but the IS-F is definitely the best of both worlds. 9/10 people who buy these cars will never use them to their full potential anyways.
flood77777 2 years ago
M3 has a fully adjustable suspension making it far more comfortable in 'Normal' setting in every day driving so NO!
The only thing the IS-F has an edge in, is in reliability especially past warranty.
SpeedKlz 2 years ago 2
M3 also comes with a true 6 speed manual (and a 7 speed dual clutch), both of which are much superior to the 8 speed LS460 transmission in the IS-F that sucks a lot of power (drivetrain loss of a 25%).
SpeedKlz 2 years ago 2

Apocatlysis 2 years ago
(start on post below)
The gearing on the IS-F is quite "normal" for sports automatics and then the 6th, 7th, and 8th gears are rarely used. I don't really know WHY they would use 8 gears... When I drive his car, even cruising on the highway at 85-90mph, I never go above 7th. And even then I ONLY go to 7th for that specific purpose.
They should drop a few gears and save the weight. The car's too damn heavy as it is.
Apocatlysis 2 years ago
I have a silver ISF. 7th and 8th gears are mostly to give you amazing gas milage like 27 mpgs I'm getting on the highway when I go on road trips. You are correct, on the track you don't use them much unless you are going for 170 mph.

rofl why would i lie, they have the reciept to prove it. I dont even get why it was that expensive
FARTINGCUM 3 years ago
Car and driver facts on both cars are a bit off. There no way the 6 speed manual M3 can hit 4.1 sec 0-60 which more likely to hit 4.5 sec and it has a top speed of 155mph instead of 161. I think they gave some credit to the M3 for better sales.

to responde to those who say bmws are tro "problematic" thats not true it depends on how u take care of them
my family has had two bmws since new and numerous used bmws
my mothers car, a 2006 330i zhp, has 160k miles and the only thing we replaced was a faulty emergency flashers switch, and we baught that new
i have an 88 e30 m3 and it has 143k miles and i have never had one single problem with it, and its 20years old!
i woudl take the m3 over the merc, audi, and lexus, far superior

C63 AMG is all the way better than ISF and M3 is not all the way but overall better than C63 AMG. thats the case

Maybe but, the C63 AMG CAN'T NOT HANDLE WORTH A FLIP!

wow seems a lot of folks dont like me to say that. did I say anything wrong?
I know m3 handles better than c63.

I never said the car was a better car. Homebody mentioned that the M3 was a better car in every aspect.
I disagreed, the Lexus has a better interior. I'm not saying its a better car just that the M3 isn't the best at EVERYTHING.
orielsy 3 years ago 7
@orielsy It really depends on what your looking for, for me the lexus is too soft and plush. Where the M3 has sportier interior with a cleaner more thought out look. I also think Lexus takes to many low grade materials from its lower end cars, which is a huge disappointment.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 low grade materials? LOL, do some research, homeboy. My IS350 has the same wood that is used on high-end Yamaha pianos. BMW, in fact, uses "leatherette" as standard for their 3-series car. FAKE LEATHER! Talk about cheap! Lexus's standard leather also has nice thick stitching- like the Jaguars did. Your arguments are weak and not fact-based. Work on it and get back to me.
jbayse99 1 year ago
@jbayse99 Enjoy your Toyota suspension, engine, brakes and frame leave me alone. Nice to see Lexus owners showing their true class with words like "homeboy". If you remember not to long ago Lexus sold there cars with cloth. Yes BMW does use leatherette on their 3 series as standard, however Leather is available and I guarantee it is much better than the Lexus leather. Go compare for yourself. Lexus is cheap, they use Toyota parts and sell them as a Lexus at a premium.
m19921992 1 year ago
@m19921992 Again, your argument shows no real substance, just subjective garbage. Come up with some empirical data and then talk to me. And about the LF-A not being able to outperform anyone? They posted the same time as a Pagani Zonda. That is faster than the Enzo, Carrera GT and Veyron. Dude, just quit arguing. Calling a Lexus cheap is like calling Jessica Alba ugly. Every auto journalist always praises the top-quality of the Lexus interior. Find me one article speaking to the contrary.

@jbayse99 You need help if you can't find substance in my comment, refute my points or go quietly.
m19921992 1 year ago

No Thanks. My current IS350 has been trouble free for 2 years and 32k miles.
artcam1 3 years ago 4

BMW delivers on luxury and has a much bigger wow factor.
lakers0829 3 years ago
dude, these guys can drive. As for as the tackiness of the add-ons of the IS-F, it is true it makes the car design not that nice compared the the M3's beautifully designed materials. It looks like the nicest car on the street and a really good value but I still dig the 335i as far as price.
lakers0829 3 years ago 5
That's true. It's funny when I see the 335i Coupe & Convertible almost everyother car in California, those 335i has so many sales, everyone in Cali has one.
EuroSport2006 3 years ago
The M3 defined this style of car and still does, no matter how well developed or how many generations in, you're always going to be one behind BMW (case in point Audi's RS4, phenomenal car but not up to the BM's dynamic level). Everyone else is playing catch up.

M3 as usual. M3 is head and shoulders above the IS-F in every way. No surprises there! M3 is the benchmark Every single comparison by different magazines, different race track drivers have given the same result. M3 wins every single time.

so the interior on the m3 is better than the lexus??
you can actually sit in the back of the lexus you don't have to be a double amputee to sit in the back. Unlike the M3 which has NO leg room.

What the hell did you expect, its a sport-sedan. Doesn't matter about interior as much as the performance. That's why your looking in a sports-sedan. Once again BMW is best in its class, M3 or 3-Series its best again.
EuroSport2006 3 years ago
yeah but he said every category.
and people hated on me because I pointed out a category in which the M3 does not surpass the IS-F
orielsy 3 years ago 6
Im with you as far as the interior on both cars the Lexus has the advantage here. Specially hated the stupid Idrive, even after a year of ownership it was still hard to use.
