  • If you truly loved music you would enjoy every instument and not saying one is stupid and high pitched.

  • I'm impressed she's using a fiddle grip. Am I correct?

  • By the way - Very good job Colleen :) !!! It's a very long song, and you managed to play all of it without mistakes :D

  • Someone report her parents for child abuse, to force her to contort her body and make unpleasant sounds in public... and then for posting the pitiful torture on youtube...

  • This is the video I wanted to see before I decided to purchase a viola instead of a violin. I needed to hear one played with imperfections, because in my oppinion, judging from what I have witnessed, orchestral string instruments are the most unforgiving instruments and will make good sound only if played with absolute precision. Violins are the worst because of their tone and either sound beautiful or abnoxious. I was curious if violas are the same way. Nope. This said, violas make good firsts.

  • @salasvalor01 why would you want to play _any_ instrument with imperfections? You have to strive for perfection. It's not the instrument that makes music, it is you, with your mind and emotion. If you haven't got music in you, it will sound terrible regardless of pitch and other qualities.

  • @BrahmsDigger I think you entirely missed the boat.

  • @salasvalor01 What I meant was, I've never heard of anyone who decided which instrument (not) to play, based on how it might sound at its worst! And I don't think that's too far removed from "the boat" that you were floating around down there. :-)

  • she plays it like if she is forced to do so

  • @Arjetube No, she's playing a difficult song, so she's concentrating - I know because I play the guitar and my mum said I look like I'm about to throw a tantrum XD

  • ugh true i play viola to but im only in 8th gurr but im playin can u feel the love tonight the melody at my concert i have to do a solo

  • Is she single?

  • What's the difference between a viola and a trampoline?

You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline. ;)

  • @RyanHD1080 i dont get it

  • The violin may be more commonly used, but you did a superb job with the viola.

  • your good

  • 0:38, Please. I'm begging you. Play E flat. Just. PLEASE.

  • @spamelson you have the ears

  • la chica esta muy linda, de resto, que mal

  • CHALE MAL PARADA DEBIL SONIDO ....

  • ok, look... i know not everybody knows what a viola is, because the violin is what so many people are playin. BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT that the viola is much better and not just cuz i play it too, but i am so sick of listening to that stupid high pitched sound in orchestra AND the violins think they are so much better!!!! i hate it when they try to show off in class!!! WHOS WITH ME???!!! if you agree, then press like!

  • @Coolestone1998 ur awesome! its soo true about the violins! not that i have anything against them, its just the fact that the violas are soo under appreciated that drives me nuts! For all of the ppl that dont no, viola is actually a harder to play as well,so this chick has some serious skill. not only that, but in most viola orchestral pieces the violas get the crappy parts!that either suck or are crap

    VIOLAS ROCK!

  • totally

  • @Coolestone1998 I play violin and i think viola is so much more beautiful. i am going to switch soon... : )

  • @Coolestone1998 i agree totaly man :)

  • @Coolestone1998: Each instrument has its merits, even the violin (smirk). But I do believe that the practicioners of certain instruments carry certain culture(s) with them, nurturing their own favorite music, composers, hero performers, etc.etc. This is certainly true for the viola, it's a whole different universe than that of the violin. I warped through a black hole from the violin universe to the viola universe some 15 years ago, and have found it pretty much impossible to go back.

  • @Coolestone1998 It's just as easy to show off on a viola ;)

  • band sux!!! go orchestra!!!!

  • lol

  • dioss que mal.. verguenza XD...

  • hi u have the same name as the girl who fell off the scooter in that other video her name was colleen it would be so wierd if her last name was taylor. i found this vid when i searched colleen to show the scooter 1 2 my friends and i really liked it.

  • Besides of lots of mistakes, but why does she do almost every down-bow an accent at the end? Bow economy!!! This is not HER mistake, but of the teacher. Girl, stand upright & change the teacher - if you wanna do it professional. This is a suggest of a profesional...

  • She looks so uninterested...its pitifull. There's no emotion and you bow arm's so oddly placed...xD

  • Collen, whay dont you kill your viola teacher?

  • J, N Hummel.

  • wow ur hot =Þ

  • You did a good job!

There were some parts that were rushed, but a lot of parts were great.

You should try to move your bow arm's elbow more and put your pinky on the bow

  • fabilious!!! warm rich sound loved itt

  • Despite all the criticisms i thought it was great

  • hi colleen i need a teacher

  • ahahahhaha

  • there are obvious problems that could be fixed with a good hard week of practicing like poster, holding the viola correctly but other than that it sounded acceptable

  • you are very pretty but you do need to work on your tuning, tone and posture quite a bit.

bend those finger on your bow hand and it will help alot, you should not have a straight pinky.

  • where are you from, colleen?

  • o jaaaaaaaaa co to jeeeeeest ?!

Pianista / pienistka tez daje czadu niezle :))))) uszy puchna litosci !!!!

  • She's pretty good! (not like I can speak from any experience or anything).

I can't really tell the difference b/w the violin and the viola. The violin DOES seem to be a bit more high in tone...

I'm trying to figure out wich one I should learn first. They both sound really cool. Hmm... maybe the cello.

  • The violin does have a higher tone.

  • violas are a little bit larger in size and, obviously, a bit lower than violins. I like violas better because they have a deep, richer sound. Violins just are too high for me.

  • Same here. I love the viola with all my heart. Been playing for 4 years. I just got out of my orchestra about a year ago, so I am looking for another to join. I find the violins just don't support at all, like we violas, they fly another in the 4 measure lol I am like what the hell!!

  • The violin is tuned a fifth higher than the viola. If you're going to start learning one or the other, I'd recommend the violin first. It's very easy to build a solid technique on the violin, then you can switch to viola later and you'll have a strong base to create a solid viola tone on. Who knows, maybe you'll just stay with the violin. A well-played violin sounds just as good as a well-played viola, in my opinion.

  • its a gr8 song and shes pretty cute

  • ya know what she is holding it funny

  • wow this is a gorgeous piece. and its played wonderfully.

  • violin better??????????? ARE YOU KIDING ME!!! the viola is much less squeeky than the violin and has a beautiful low rich pich to it. now this viola here probably isn't the best made one.dont get me wrong the violin is awsome but the IS BETTER!!

  • i agree the violen is to high i h8 it. i like viola better it has more of a flow

  • totally

  • @Doglover828 Nope. You're wrong. You can't compare two different instruments. Violins and Violas both sound great in their own right. Nobody likes a side-taker...

  • Iv been playing the viola for 4 yrs so far. Shes really good, but her bow position is a little awkward. (the way she holds the bow) maybe its just me. Otherwise it was a great performance :D

  • I have been playin for 4 years to and i agree!!

  • I play the viola!ITS AWSOME!

  • VERY SEXY WOMEN.....

  • You are amazing at playing the viola. I am doing the viola in my school and I only hope I will be as good as you are.

  • i wonder if she has fun doing that??? doesnt look like it but your still awesome ^^ keep it up

  • Often what people do is that their faces turn neutral instead of excited because it takes less thinking about your reaction toward your playing. So its like she's focused in her performance.

  • wow. ur really good. im one of two violaists in my school and we never sound that good. never..{u usually cant hear us any way cus theres lik 50 violinists 6 basses, and 14 cellos so u never hear us but oh well}

  • i an going to learn how to play the viola soon at school!

  • Make sure it's what you want because in the world of Viola's it will only get harder.

  • Don't worry about these comments. Probably half of them don't even play an instrument! I think it is great! My 8 year old has been playing viola 4 years and my 3 year old starts lessons this week. Keep up the good work! Check out the video I posted of my kids performing...

  • I wish people wouldn't comment on how this musician "looks." Intense people often have facial features which bely their inner thoughts and feelings. Her playing is what matters. And I thought that playing was very good.

  • Very true. Kids at my school who have mental disabilities often beat me in a duet. I respect any viola any day.

  • you look really bored, and unfortunately it is reflected in your sound

  • It is almost unbelievable that the smiling picture in the beginning is the same girl in de video. You look extremely morose.. Maybe it is concentration or nerves so don't get me wrong. But it looks like you just don't like to play...

  • Sounds interesting; needs a bit of tuning. First finger is flat.

  • wow! i just started playing the viola and i seriously suck compared to her! and my music teacher expects me to no howto do that in like6 weeks cus thats when school starts! and im gunnabe the only viola player ahhhhhhh!!!!

  • oh.i was the only viola for a while...trust me ...you will be very reare. and if u keep playing u will get GREAT scholarship for a highschool or college because violas are so rare and orchestras need them!!!!!! so pretty much u r first viola chair...u r the best...and no one can take ur spot..and if ur schol goes on any trips u have to go cause they have no other viola to pick!!!!!! trust me it is fun....if u really love it

  • Actually she's not the only one working to be the best. I have been a viola player since 2005 and its been 3 years that I've played. Now I'm in high school and I play like if I was already in college. The reason I play outragously well is becuase I have a private lessons almost every day and everything I think about is my well being and my viola. So pretty much Im commited into being the best as well. Im not saying im universally the best but I just dont think shes the only one.

  • trust me i know shes not the best....you wanna see the best...LOOK at ME...lol...im jplayinyou....wow im a crackhead

  • lol you probably suck XD

  • Hm, really. Practicing for several weeks non-stop, having to purchase a private tutor, going to tireless concerts, appearing at dinner meets. Yeah I suck. Not.

  • yea..........I have no proof of this....I played for the president of the United States

  • Really? Then good for you. I wish you luck. Although I don't assume the president was intending to hear any orchestra at the moment.

  • omg thats so awesome

  • snob

  • Yeah I guess

  • Yea, it's great that you're awesome, but it's not great that you're cocky

  • Yeah I know but I wasn't trying to boast. It seems the root of my comment grew into some cocky thing. Truely I admit I'm crap

  • Oh my.

  • wow i play the viola too. you just look bored. but some energy into it. but very nicly done. a few sour notes but it was still good!

  • u look like ur about to hit the sack

  • hahaha she does. psh i can do that.

  • good job....tip---ull sound lots better ifu use bow speed and accents!!!!

  • wow its nice and all it jus seems like ur really bored

  • intonation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love the sound. it would be better if u played with more emotion.u gotta remeber that ur instrument is your partner.ur friend.if u love the viola u need to let it no u do and play together

  • where's the emotion? I didn't get it

  • OH....

  • why isnt your pinky on your bow?

  • very good =)

    you look bored though.

    but whatever very nice job.

  • ok... nice sound... practice a bit more to get those hard notes... in some place you'll notice that you squeek... try holding the bow properly... and press down with your index finger for more power... and relax... your all tence... but all in all... you sounded quite lovely... probably the mistakes are because you were nervous... dont worry... and just play... good job hope to hear you again :D

  • HORRIBLE,..practice more,..you are out of tune so many times.

  • you're really good! im a sophomore playing the viola and im good but goddamn you're like 5041x better lol. keep it up!!!

    p.s. you're beautiful

  • I agree with some of the other people.

Your intonation was a little off in places. I would work on that, especially when shifting.

I would also work on your bow hand, and bowing techniques. Make sure you have enough bow for the entirety of the note.

Also..when you do vibrato, its more of a wrist movement, not a finger movement.

    But overall...that was pretty good.

    keep working on it!

    :]

  • Yeah well i rented violas for a while also, but now im being loaned a 10,000 dollar instrument and a Tubbs bow

  • my viola was about $700(USD). But that's because I'd been renting for 5 or 6 years and all the money we invested in that one went to purchasing a nice one; my new one.

this piece is okay, but the intonation needs work. i agree with a lot of the comments below mine and i do agree with the one saying you were off by about a half step in some spots. but overall nice job.

  • I agree with -6 woman.

    For some constructive criticism:

I would work on hearing the ringing tones to get yourself really in tune, there were times where I thought you might have been close to a half-step off!

Other wise keep up the good work and really try to hear the intonation.

  • A good standard, playable viola would be about £700. However a £1,000 instrument will make a good 4 standard player onwards sound good, and will help to ease the process of learning and knowing how to make the instrument sound good.

  • I have a chinese viola, i got it for $1500 and it's worth much more than that. I love it

  • She is hot. Much Love from an EX-violist (I'm all about the violin now, I know, what a traitor!).

  • What does a good viola go for. I keep getting mixed numbers anyone have any advice?

  • idk. i got mine off of ebay, so start there.

  • thanks :) how much did you pay?

whats a good brand? sorry i am so ready to play.

  • First, price doesn't determine the quality of the instrument, though, it ought reflect it. So, a good viola that is reasonably priced will tend to be one you play and then buy from a private party in person. Trial and error online tends to be expensive--the better bet such a case is to buy mildly damaged, old violas and then restore and resell them while of course keeping your favorite, a method that will get the best sounding instrument for any price paid.

  • i play the viola!!!!!!great job

  • ever play with an electric viola?? try it someday! jsut for the fun of it ..you can make those amplifiers go Crazy! with electric violins and violas! I thought you sounded great, but what do I know, im just a nerd that likes to play the ukulele. ;)

  • some of you guys aren't very nice. It's a good start on the piece, but of course there is always plenty of room to grow. contrary to what some people have said in their comments, it is not like a cello bow hold. maybe russian

Look up Ivan Galamian. His bow hold is the one you want to model. And don't listen to the guy who told you to hold your elbow higher! You want your elbow to be lower so that the weight transfers from your arm in to your bow.

    Keep on practicing!

  • Sheesh people, she may have put up the video for any number of reasons. Who says she has to be good - youtube isn't a talent show! It's an exchange platform, basta.

  • ... You could be a violin convert.

    Your bow hold is... horrendous.

I didn't like it at all. I heard little to no dynamics.

It could be the video quality, but your strings sound old.

Your spiccato was... also horrendous. :P

You need a lot more work and practice. I hate to say it... but it wasn't great.

You are very pretty, but that won't earn any pity from me 'cause I'm a girl. :)

  • you sound gay lady, quit hitting on young girls

  • I'm am a young girl myself, and am quite far from gay.

  • Well I can't blame you for looking bored. It's a

Ps I know saying this makes me an obnoxious fuck, but you are gorgeous.

  • This girl is a rock star who will spit on all of your trophies. Get a massage and a red bull, some killer boots and play metal.

  • she play very well

    you turn is good !!

  • pretty good. work on the bow hand. looks like a cello hold.a little louder just so that you can be heard fromt he camera next time you record. more vibrato.. i know its hard im learning myself right now.. its really frustrating. overall pretty good intonation!!

  • The bow hold of a viola is similar to that of a cello (ie pinkie on top) because one must weight the bow to move the thicker strings.

  • ill have to disagree with you. a cello hold has the pickie wrapped around the bow. closer in relation to the bass bow hold (if not using a german bow) the viola bow hold is exactly like the violin bow hold.

  • You actually are correct, and I commented before I really thought about it LOL. I've played viola for over 10 years and hadn't given it much thought I guess...my appologies.

  • I think this girl was in Tacoma Youth Symphony with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my goodness...she is so pretty and plays so badly... Pretend at least to get involved in the music you play!Looks like "prima vista". right hand technique inexistent, little finger flying around, ellbow much too low. Get some skill for triller. And intonation. But keep it up, you´re pretty.:)

  • [part 2]

    2. Your intonation isn't that bad, except some major blunders in the lower register. But what about your right hand? It's stiff like a dead corpse, which certainly doesn't help your spiccato.

    3. You're playing with a total lack of enthusiasm, spirit and passion. Your charisma is like a sack of potatoes. Don't you enjoy your playing, or at least the fantastic music of the Slovak genius Hummel?

  • [part 1]

Young lady, I have a series of questions for you:

    1. Tone quality: Ever heard of vibrato? What about using some other very effective expression tools like e.g. dynamics?

  • oh boy, you're a violin convert aren't you? Work on that bow hand girl! Arm weight! Sounds like an interesting piece though, good work.

  • Bella

  • Nice Girl. Vive l'alto!! I'm Violist since 10 years and I think she isn't a bad violist. I don't understand why the rates are like that. 5 stars for Her.

  • je joue de l'alto! >DDD

  • where can I find this sheet music. Please put it on my channel. don't feel like checking my email.

  • aww cools dude i play viola too :D i want to become a professional, but my parents are almost against it :(

  • same with me, my parents definitely do not want it in my future

  • nice piece..i really love that piece..

  • ive been playin since 5 grade

im gonna be in ninth dis year

  • i play so much better

jus kiddin gurl u iz good keep it up

but i do play da viola

  • i can play the violn not viola but i love the violin!

  • Well,it's a difficult and interesting piece.i didn't know this :many thank's for sharing it.Keep on working:the sound is interesting

  • well done, but try to keep yor elbow higher, then the sound will have more body.

  • I love the viola. I have a 17" viola... wish I would've gotten a smaller one, but too late. It's hard to find strings for a 17" viola. Bach played viola! Violists are cool!

  • so did fiedler! (as a born-into-it bostonian, I appreciate that more than most) oh yeah... and I play a 16" but dabbled with a 16 1/2" from France that was to die for!

  • I played that piece for a concert a couple weeks ago. Its one of my favorites.

  • Cool! i play viola too! but...i'm just a beginer i could never be as good as her..unless i practice..wtich i don't like to do

  • ah, i love this piece. i remember it well. good job!
