@klobator Arcanum is easily one of the best games in history, but I don't know if it's the best. Planescape Torment and Deus Ex are also incredible, and I have heard a lot of really good things about Baldur's Gate 2 as well. I have played both Deus Ex and Arcanum extensively so I know how awesome they are, but I'm currently playing Planescape and let me tell you, so far it has lived up to its fame. Perhaps after I finish Planescape and BG 2 I will know what game is the best of them all.
this game was so long, I remember starting it multiple times when i was younger. I love how it created the 'steamwork' theme thoughout the game with the mining towns, industrial cities, the dwarven mines, it was well done, and could be pretty scary sometimes.
the old game gave us a worth for our money, games like baldur's gate 2. planescape and Arcanum really let us enjoy an epic quest that make us believe we make difference..unlike games these days like Dragon age 2, games these days gave us more emptiness than joy
This is similar to the ending I got yesterday actually. The only exceptions is that I didnt do the "gold" mission and the Lizard people still lived in small camps staying away from humans. What I found strange with this ending though is that Arannox buried hes father... hes father was alive when I went to the Void. What happened lol?
I was also a little disappointed that the "diplomacy victory" vs the last boss (speech skill) still meant you had to fight him.That was way better in Fallout 2.
@Lobos222 Considering it took 4 powerful mages to send Arronax and the other fiends to the void, I always figured that the old elf gave his life to send you to the void and bring Arcanum one last hope.
Also if you kill Nasrudin, he uses his last breath to send you to the void XD

See I loved this Game, but when they had pictures that didn't move, it creeped me, but when you die and it shows the Grave Stone It Petrafide me! I was scared to Death as a Kid. hahaha I still kinda am creeped out as a teen hahahaha

in other RPGs you make charecter of predivined class like rogue or warrior or mage but in arcanum you can make anything,for ex make warrior (str,dex,malle,dogde) and add some dark magic youll get black knight or you can instead add white necromantic and make holy knight,or you can add prowling,backstab and youll get assassin,even then there is so much possiblitys,like adding magic (white necromantic) to assassin and you can be "watcher of Helicon order" or if you choose dark magic be Assassin of
what i like most about arcanum is charecter creation,there is unlimed wayus you can make your PC,given 8 stats 12 magic schools and 8 sience expertise you can create anything from basic warrior (or martial artist if you prefer using no weapons) to Dark mage or Druid

I think I have to disagree with that comment, personally I value the charms of both modern and older games, and modern games are quite capable to having a plot, for instance, I don't think I have ever experienced a better plot than the Metal Gear (Solid) franchise has in any medium, gaming or other, and Arcanum probably comes second

In my ending there was war between Caladon and Tarant, but Caladon won it because of the planes and I couldn't bring the king of the dwarves to return from his exile, so the dwarves clan ended up making war among themselves -.-

forgot, how do you get the ending for Maximillian and Liana? I went to liana's after the isle of despair mission but the ending still came out bad for dernholm.

What you do in the game has consequences. The ending shows you what happend with Arcanum.
For an example:
Jongle Dunn successfully creates successful process to turn gold from lead. Because of your mindless destruction of the bridge materials, Lukan continued to control the only route in or out. Shrouded Hills withers away.
I had the same ending thanks for the vid, completed the game only once in 2002.. imho arcanum is better than fallout (which is better for 'rebellious' teens and people who love killing ants and rats)
I played both but prefered Fallout for all the alternates storyline and small missions, I prefered also the dialogs and easter eggs from Fallout which gave this game a very distinct feeling.
They should make a second arcanum and have a altered story line and have new quest and weapons and armor and make it 3d and have mounts and you can wear like plat with a cloak over it and stuff that would be sweet!
Arcanum is the best RPG I ever played. I made it three times. (Tech, magic, Thief)But I never sucseeded to make everything good. Actually, I sucseeded to make everithing bad:P
This is not the best possible ending. There is a way to return to Arcanum as a God (good, neutral, evil) or a hero (good, evil). Although it is difficult and has a few bugs in it, it IS possible. The guys from Troika cut it from the official game.

I finished the game early this morning. I played to get both good and bad ending. Overall I think Fallout 2 kicks hell out of Arcanum, but it's still quite good. The plot really could have been a bit more interesting and I was greatly unsatisfied with the fact that you can't continue playing the game after you completed the main quest. That is just terrible flaw. Overall pretty good game, but after all I heard I was little disappointed, but not much.
There's not much to do after the end of the game. And, of course, it would be very difficult for Troika to create, due to the variety of possible endings. Imagine yourself as Arcanum's God after the end of the game.
Let me disagree. The best thing in these games is just to roam around the world map, finish the last quests and basicly make your character even better. There actaully would have been a lot to do. And do think about Fallout serie, I wouldn't see it hard at all to be able to continue. Nothing really changed in Fallout world after main plot and it didn't really matter.

No, he did not. You see, if Loghaire returns to throne, Magnus is not mentionned in the ending, even if the lost clan is found. If Loghaire doesn't become king again, his son failes and Magnus takes the throne (if the lost clan is found).

That Vendegroth Device and Portal used to give me the chills when I watched the video. Still does, but boy, that was a long, long time ago.

What you do in the game has consequences. The ending shows you what happend with Arcanum.
For an example:
Jongle Dunn successfully creates successful process to turn gold from lead. Because of your mindless destruction of the bridge materials, Lukan continued to control the only route in or out. Shrouded Hills withers away.

I had the same ending thanks for the vid, completed the game only once in 2002.. imho arcanum is better than fallout (which is better for 'rebellious' teens and people who love killing ants and rats)

I played both but prefered Fallout for all the alternates storyline and small missions, I prefered also the dialogs and easter eggs from Fallout which gave this game a very distinct feeling.

They should make a second arcanum and have a altered story line and have new quest and weapons and armor and make it 3d and have mounts and you can wear like plat with a cloak over it and stuff that would be sweet!

Arcanum is the best RPG I ever played. I made it three times. (Tech, magic, Thief)But I never sucseeded to make everything good. Actually, I sucseeded to make everithing bad:P

This is not the best possible ending. There is a way to return to Arcanum as a God (good, neutral, evil) or a hero (good, evil). Although it is difficult and has a few bugs in it, it IS possible. The guys from Troika cut it from the official game.

I finished the game early this morning. I played to get both good and bad ending. Overall I think Fallout 2 kicks hell out of Arcanum, but it's still quite good. The plot really could have been a bit more interesting and I was greatly unsatisfied with the fact that you can't continue playing the game after you completed the main quest. That is just terrible flaw. Overall pretty good game, but after all I heard I was little disappointed, but not much.

There's not much to do after the end of the game. And, of course, it would be very difficult for Troika to create, due to the variety of possible endings. Imagine yourself as Arcanum's God after the end of the game.

Let me disagree. The best thing in these games is just to roam around the world map, finish the last quests and basicly make your character even better. There actaully would have been a lot to do. And do think about Fallout serie, I wouldn't see it hard at all to be able to continue. Nothing really changed in Fallout world after main plot and it didn't really matter.

No, he did not. You see, if Loghaire returns to throne, Magnus is not mentionned in the ending, even if the lost clan is found. If Loghaire doesn't become king again, his son failes and Magnus takes the throne (if the lost clan is found).
