What a fun performance, sell out or not. She looks like she's having a blast, and the crowd is having a good time too. Good vibes here (and I'm a fan of Girly Sound/Exile and little else).
Commercial, non-commercial, artistically free or not, she writes great songs and delivers them well. It's really that simple. Her songs hold up almost 20 years later.
I think she's back. I mean her label commitments are over and now she has all the freedom she wants. I mean the best kind of freedom which is the ARTISTIC one which is what major labels eliminate. I anxiously await her next move.
I completely disagree with bg and monte. Liz is still great. I don't care if she wrote a commercial record (that her label forced her into doing). I saw her last year on the Guyville anniversary tour- and she was amazing. The fact that she laughed and gracefully recovered in this video just shows the comfort level that she has gained as a performer. Her stage presence is far more relaxed now than it was back in 1995. It's all just a part of her evolution as a performer and artist.
She sucks so bad now that she can't even remember the opening chords to the best song she's ever written from one of the top 50 albums of all time. I miss the old Liz Phair. thanks for posting this.
