My cat had an abscess a couple years ago from a psycho bitch cat we briefly had that bit her. It was on her butt, though. I didn't get to see them do this on her, though I'm kinda glad 'cuz that's an insanely gross amount of pus. XD
@dfdemt Yes the cat is sedated. If the cat wasn't then all hell would break lose in there because no cat would tolerate it. Plus animal clinics don't want to torture any animal (although most animals think it is anyways haha ;)).

I have a friend that's a vet and apparently cats have REALLY viral mouths, and their bites often get infected and end up like this. My sister's cat got beat up by a tom cat and had to have an abscess on his back drained. They had to send him home with drainage tubes sticking out of his back and we had to clean them.
The cat is sedated....in our office it is very common for cat bites to turn like this. They have to be drained. Imagine how much better the poor thing will feel. All that pressure is gone.
But after the entire thing we had bandaged him up and he could open his eyes again. He moved around and ate and meow. It took a couple of months to heal but he's all good. When we would clean his wound everyday he would just lie there and let us. All he has now is a little scar between his eye and ear. He's a happy trooper now. especially when he has his catnip.
I have a cat named Fuzzy. He had the same thing but in between his eye and ear. My mom didn't have enough money to take him to a vet. It just became this big hard rough brown spot. And eventually caused his eyes to get infected and swell closed. I couldn't bare the thought of loosing him. He had become weak and couldn't do anything. So my mom performed the surgery at home. Luckily my mom was a nurse and has done this kind of thing before on humans. When we did it he was a awake and didnt react.
my cat was awake when I drained his infection. I guess you could say he is a very good patient. He just sat there and let me tend to him and didn't try to get away or anything. I seem to have a very strong and special bond with my cat people say. For the next 3 to 4 weeks I changed his bandages and medicated him with tea tree oil and camphophenic. He would just sit there and let me do it. Ps. I also bath him every week during the summer months. he loves it.

How in the world could people not tell this cat was sedated? Absessses HURT - there is no way that cat would have sat through that treatment and let someone press on the wound again and again to clean it.
@capnquack very true...i have two cats and I remember one of them was being curious and got into my utility drawer and got a fishing hook caught in his cheek and he about had a heart attack when we were trying to get it out because he wanted to get away and get it out himself but he was just making it worse...I cried when we had to remove it because he was in so much pain.

This vid reminds me of my cat kaisers abcess he got on his back. Bloody massive. The day we went to take him to the vets to get it removed and get him nutured it burst. Nearly puked and the smell...ugh. Now that's something I'll never forget.

I wish they sedated me when I had my abcess. Removal of human absesses is straight up torture. docs will locally anestitize (sp) the area, but it still hurts like crazy.
@timkay166 how else are they suppose to get the pus out? if they didnt get that pus out the abscess wouldnt heal and there would be more damage. that is how you are suppose to drain a cat abscess
My cat, a tom named Dexter had a runin with the toughest cat on the hill; he lost ,got chawed up and had an abcess just like this one that came back twice. But he is all better now, although the places the Vet had to shave will be a while filling back in. Its expensive, but we love our Dexter .

This is a very poor vet, being so rough with the cat's abcess.
I've got six cats, and several of them have been to the vet for such a similar happening, and our vet managed to do the same thing without being so rough to the cat. I wouldn't be surprised if there's permanent internal damage to his cheak from that!
my baby boy got an abcess from fighting and I didnt know it till he scratched it open and all that gunk flowed out. He did it on his own and no vet bill. Then I doctored the open hole. and kept it open with antibiotic salve till it quit making puss.

@timkay166 how else are they suppose to get the pus out? if they didnt get that pus out the abscess wouldnt heal and there would be more damage. that is how you are suppose to drain a cat abscess

My cat, a tom named Dexter had a runin with the toughest cat on the hill; he lost ,got chawed up and had an abcess just like this one that came back twice. But he is all better now, although the places the Vet had to shave will be a while filling back in. Its expensive, but we love our Dexter .

This is a very poor vet, being so rough with the cat's abcess.
I've got six cats, and several of them have been to the vet for such a similar happening, and our vet managed to do the same thing without being so rough to the cat. I wouldn't be surprised if there's permanent internal damage to his cheak from that!

my baby boy got an abcess from fighting and I didnt know it till he scratched it open and all that gunk flowed out. He did it on his own and no vet bill. Then I doctored the open hole. and kept it open with antibiotic salve till it quit making puss.
