  • Wheres the hook? Sorry, ive never used a 'tube' streamer. Thanks Davie.

  • Hi MrTroutguy,

You don't have to be sorry, if you have never seen a tube being set up then you have to ask, I would...All you do is thread your nylon through the tube from the head and then tye on a hook of your choice and that can be a single, double or a treble depending on the rules and laws of the land where you are fishing in the world...

    All the best Davie

  • I'm totally agree. Davie McPhail is one of the fly tiers.

    Dave,...youre great.

    greetings,

    dutchflyfisher from The Netherlands

  • Hi Davie,

I got the bug bond kit today at the Angling Center. When I set the resin using the multi led uv torch, it comes out quite tacky. I had the light on it for over a minute with the same result. Did you ave this problem? Also what Batteries did you use for this torch?

    Many Thanks,

    Best Regards,

    ~David

  • Hi David,

If you can return this torch and exchange it for the pro version, I know it is more expensive but you will go through loads of batteries keeping it as it's strongest. The pro torch is far better and only takes one battery, it lasts way longer and more importantly sets the resin much better..

Let me know how you get on...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie,

    Many thanks for your help!

I'll need to keep a hold of it until I get more money but I see where your coming from.

Someone at the Angling center told us that we'd be better getting the Pro torch but I didn't have enough at the time so I'll get saving for that!

    Really appreciate your advice!

    Best Regards,

    ~David

  • Hi Davie,

Just received the Pro Torch in the post, very pleased! I hit it with the light for no more than 5 seconds and already it was harder than the last one. The little bit of smoke is very satisfying too!

Many Thanks once again for your fantastic and unbeatable advice! Very much appreciated!

    Best Regards,

    ~David

  • Hi David(TotallyFlyTying),

I'm glad you got the pro torch, it's way better as you saw....

    All the best Davie

  • Mr.: Davie McPhail! You are the one of the best fly tiers I've seen, and learned from your videos. I subscribe to all of your videos on You Tube and your website. Best regards, Stefan Lindstrom, from Sweden

  • Thankyou very much Stefan.....

  • thanks for showing me this video Mr.McPhail

i am starting it right now!

    God bless

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

    Your are very welcome...ATB Davie

  • hi,

do you have any old material or old supplies that you would like to be taken off your hands. i have a vise but i dont have any material or anything and i want to learn how to tie flies.

  • I think that this would be a good pattern to use on the Coastal Streams of the Pacific Northwest for King's and Coho's.

  • Hi Davie,

why you add this rubber leggs for this fly? for some vibration?

  • Hi TheAdamGie,

Just for extra movement and with the orange ones a little bit of colour...

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

    thank you for your answer

    best regards

  • Cracker as usual Davie. We'll need to get a crack at the Pike together this year sometime ;-). Tied a few Whistlers with rubber legs in beside the flashabou tail, suppose it gives a bit of extra vibration - esp if you add a couple of knots to it. Dougie.

  • Hi Dave, great video!

Where can I order that glue? I live in Sweden.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    //Jonatan

  • Hi Jonatanost,

You can buy it from a few places here in the U.K , like the Glasgow Angling Centre and Sportsfish.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    All the best Davie

  • Great fly! I think it works very well for pike, what do you think?

  • Hi MegaWallem,

I tyed this fly for Pike so here's hoping it will catch a few...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie

Headed to the vise now that is a amazing looking flies that would slay bass and strippers I would be tying up several of this.Cant wait to try them out...

    Thanks for the Great Videos

    Chance

    Merry Christmas

  • great looking fly...i live in texas and i've never seen a rabbit that color, haha just kidding. Davie,i am relatively new to fly tying, can you tell me why the need to tie on a tube...whats the purpose. and i suppose i could tie that this fly on a #2 hook...what would the difference be? always enjoy your videos and expertise...Merry Christmas,Daniel

  • Hi 1968drum,

There's lot's of green beasties over here:-))) A tube is a very good way to tye a fly on as you can use a single, double or a treble at the back depending on the rules of the land or the fishery you are on.The other good thing about a tube is that if a fish takes and runs the fly will run up the line away from the fish's mouth so it doesn't get chewed. And yes you could tye it on a #2 hook..

    Merry Christmas to you too...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi jayodonn,

You will find this fly will sit fine tyed as it is but even if it doesn't for some reason it will still take fish....

    All the best Davie

  • Thank you Davie, this is a great pattern, and very adjustable for color, I would just suggest putting the rabbit strip for the body in something like a Marc Petijean(srry if I butchered is name) magic tool, it will have the same or more bulk on the fly, and there won't be rabbit hide that soaks up a lot of water

  • Really nice fly, my boat partner had a 30lb pike this year on lough Corrib on something similiar i tied in orange on an ad swier pike hook. really like the rubber leg idea will try it next time round. more pike patterns please davie

    Merry Christmas Jonny

  • Hi Jonny,

Glad you liked the fly and you too have a wonderful Christmas..

    All the best Davie

  • Excellent fly Davie,

I was wondering what hook you find works best with this style of fly? And when a pike takes the fly do you strike immeadiately or let the pike run with the fly for a second or two first. It's just that i've had plenty of takes with similar flies but I find the pike very difficult to hook when fly fishing.

I would very much appreciate any of your expert advice.

I can't thank you enough again for all your amazing videos.

  • Hi donegalflyfisher,

The good thing about tying this fly on a tube means you could use a single, double or a treble at the back as they will all work with it..When I've fished for Pike I found that they hang on well to a fly and all I had to do was to tighten up but sometimes they would miss the fly but wait as they will come back for another go but I haven't fished for them a lot..

I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you with more advice..

    All the best Davie

  • Hello, Davie

Another great movie. Looks like a real killer. Do you use them for pike?

  • Hi Vyccia,

Yes this style of fly would be used here for Pike but in other countries It could catch many other species of fish...

    All the best Davie

  • It's an amzing looking fly but far too large for my liking, the rabbit fur would be incredibley heavy, a slightly smaller version would suit be well.

I do like the way it was tied apache style, that appeals a lot to me.

Another great video, keep them coming and have a Merry Cristmas and tight lines for next year!

    regards, Kyle.

  • Hi Kyle (madaboottroot),

Glad you like the fly, I know that the rabbit can be a bit heavy especially this size just replace the rabbit with hackles or synthentic fibre...

Have a wonderful Christmas when it comes as well....

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie,

Another great fly! I am thinking a small version might be worth a try for trouts.

    Thanks for the video

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas to you and yours... and your YouTube fans.

  • Hi GreyBuzzer,

Merry Christmas when it comes and thankyou for all your kind words...

    All the best Davie
