  • great technique!

  • I must have a bass clarinet like that one

  • Just an update to all fans of this music...

I am informed that music from Manfred's ECM LPs from this period will be compiled into 2 CDs. Details ECM 2093/4 Manfred Schoof Quintet "Resonance". Recordings 1976-79

  • some Fantastic music here...

  • it gets even better... the other Schoof videos are out of this world...

  • excellente:)

  • Hello orangefunk.

    I play bass clarinet.

I suggest you add to the tags of the three videos the words bass clarinet. I randomly found this video and its amazing playing, not just based in multiphonics and altissimo and noise...

Now Michel Pilz is my favorite bass player beside Dolphy.

    Thanks for this amazing music!

  • thanks man... I have now done what you suggested! :-) happy NY!

  • oh my goodness gracious i didnt realise the LP light lines has a live tv counterpart do you have resonance by any chance that is such an incredible track i would love to see it performed live

  • Fraid not... but totally agree.. great track... Flowers all over is there though...

  • I should add, that although the LP was also recorded in December 1977, the video and LP are not from the same session...

  • thanks for the reply, and since you sound as enthused as I am about this ECM style, can you comment on:

JASPER VAN 'T HOF's PILI PILI LP w/ Manfred Schoof ?

  • I haven't heard that one... I think it was a world music meets digital synths 80s kind of thing.. I had a 7" single of a track that sounded unremarkable.. but maybe the album is quite different..

  • wonderful. I with their CDs were out on CD. A great band.

  • Wow...blew me away...thanks for posting this. Digging the groove...

  • Mind blowing!!! Strange that i only just discovered Manfred a short while ago. Anyway this STANDS OUT and UP THERE pretty much on the same stage as Herbie Hancock's BRILLIANT Mwandishi sextet. Now i'm looking all over the place for Schoof's LIVE (or even studio album) with this tune, anyone have any ideas? and also the band members names?? Anyone that likes this should check Hancock's Mwandishi group too.

  • Yep, I got all those LPs... well worth having! Glad you like this!

My favourite LP out of the two is Scales.. I can't stop listening to it...!

  • You got all the LPs, wow!!! I'm sadly a CD (format) man hence not being able to find the M.Schoof's albums as they've probably not been released on CD. Would you know where/ how i can purchase them anyhow/ anyway/ anywhere... Laughs but true, not sounding desperate.

  • yeah not available at all on CD...

  • say? I love "Scales" also...but how about Manfred Schoof Orchestra -s/t (maybe it's live) on Amiga, can you comment on this one?

  • Hi,

Yeah I have all the LPs... the live 1983 LP is not as great as it could be. Fairly poor sound quality... it was also released in both West and East Germany on two different labels.. but I think they both sound as mediocre as the other... (I have the Amiga pressing btw). I doubt whether any of the participants would be happy with it...

Get the Light Lines, Scales and Horizons and you are set! ;-)

  • yeah master!

  • yeah, reminds me a lot of soft machine fifth

  • Very nice, kind of Soft Machine styled fusion.
