Why is the interviewer trying to mock this man? I hate people that try to force the obvious evidence into something worth to mock or to disregard with simply "oh, but they are animals, it cant be" Its sad, really sad-
@hobatu Actually they have! During initial tests using a TV display device which responds to sound with light patterns, the dolphins controlled the display by squeaking their rostrums against the underwater windows in their tank. This suggested the design of an underwater touchscreen. Lol! Brilliant!
why should such a moron be able to imprison and abuse elegant creatures such as dolphins, look at the rage expressed at 1:50. I think the dolphins are more 'self aware' than this guy

Fascinating, but this researcher was kinda anthropomorphically biased. His job is not to be! I didn't like that he made it sound like dolphins are the primary nontarget species of fisheries. Nobody cares about sharks and turtles just because they are not in a "special club?" I hope dolphins are self-aware but I don't want the data to be skewed to satisfy that hope. Does anyone know what sample size he used? This is so intriguing that I will look up the literature, thanks for uploading.
Oh yeah? Well if dolphins are so smart how come they didn't invent religions to make them believe they were better than other species like we did? Yeah... didn't think of that did they!?
theres no question they are intelligent. the fact they save our lives when we are in danger also shows that they recognise us and they feel empathy for us. what do we do we slaughter them. we are animals not they
About the saving lives part: Bottlenoses belong to the family of dolphins. All dolphins species are intelligent and highly social animals, capable of helping each other when in need. The fact that they occasionally protect us from danger should not be interpretated as them 'liking' us. It's part of their instinct. Dolphins have also been seen trying to help and support a dead shark at the water surface, while it's their natural enemy. They are complex animals and we have to stop killing them.
@hobatu I think that would be a great idea, they could use picture boards then in the same way as chimps to communicate and we could learn so much more from them, or they could use them for art and unleash their creative side (elephanst like painting when given the opportunity, maybe dolphins would to, damn they might be good at it!)
not all animals are self-aware why do you even try to contradict a scientist's statement, they have primal awareness like any existing living beings who want to survive....but if a cat can't seem to recognize itself in a mirror, it means they don't recognize an outlook of themselves or picture themselves away from their own inner workings
What makes it difficult to study animal intelligence is that humans are in practice so very dangerous to animals. Like you wouldn't behave the same at the presence of a big boss who might fire you just like that, as you would at the presence of friends who have no power over you or any of your friends. Humans KILL animals, you know. Things are never normal in such a situation. That is even more tough than the position of women, beautiful and dum, much like animals, men say, but truth isdifferent
yer i heard about that, but dolphins get a lot more attention since there so common, more predictable and stable in the wild, and have a hell of a lot of good press, as well as pop culture.
Yea true. It also annoys me when people say "dolphins are the most intelligent animal" because that isn't correct. There are over 38 different dolphin species and no two species are the same.
River dolphins have very small brains and the only dolphin that is 'self-aware' is the Bottlenose, not all dolphins.
And a dolphin's brain is actually more similar to the brain of a cow or sheep than a human.
I love dolphins...but they get more credit than needed and other animals get forgotten about.
lol ironmaiden...let's see you try to prove that. Most dolphin species have shown no special ability at problem seolving and the Bottlenose dolphin's intelligence is comparable to that of elephants (actually, when you look at brain research, elephants trumph Bottlenose dolphins...such as the fact that Bottlenose dolphins have far less brain neurons than humans and elephants etc).
Normally I don't reply to people like you who can't think of anything smart to say so result to name calling but here's the thing...dolphins are not the smartest animal and you have provided no reasoning why you think this. Every animal is intelligent in its own way. ONE dolphins species out of 32 has had most studies performed on it. Most dolphins have very low EQs (brain to body ratios). Nice to see a 'Christian' like yourself calling people "fucking retards", by the way, ironmaiden.
One thing you can't deny about Bottlenose dolphins is that they perform infanticide and kidnappings and males subjecting females to forced copulation and brutalizing Harbor porpoises to the point that they die from internal injuries, brain injuries and punctured lungs. Dolphins also eat dolphins too (your type probably needs an example so I'll say that Orca eat smaller dolphins as do Pilot whales). Lovely.
Are you mistaking intellect with intuition? Elephants are very keen and very well trained.... as in they remember what they were taught by their parents.
Also, there is more than meets the eye with dolphins. They are manipulating physical elements in a way that humans are not able to... with they're mind alone. That doesn't suggest being smarter than another spieces, but more advanced?
Yes. We are not as advanced as the dolphin. And we are not as in tune with our environment as elephants.
"They are manipulating physical elements in a way that humans are not able to... with they're mind alone"
Ah I see....this sounds like the 'new agey' view of dolphins that is based on emotion and myth rather than any real facts on dolphins. Please provide an example and some evidence of this "manipulating...with [the] mind alone".
Blowing air bubbles and moving them around has more to do with physics than any 'mind power'. As for the dolphin brain size, you really can't compare a human brain to a dolphin brain because they are quite different. Anyway, not all dolphins have a large brain...some have very low EQ's. Dolphins are FAR too generalized. Second, the dolphin neocortex is thinner and is also less complex in terms of neurons than a human brain. Chimps and elephants have more brain neurons than a Bottlenose dolphin.
Also, with the video in my last reply, the fact that the dolphin brain is 30% larger than homo sapiens and larger in the right spot to manipulate physical matter by mind alone.

I suggest a little experiment:
Step 1: replace the mirror with an LCD screen, connected to a camera and computer, the LCD should display mirrowed images of the dolphin.
Step 2: add a computer graphic effect of a shark swimming from behind the dolphin!
Step 3: observe!

No, quite the opposite. This is based on observation of (granted, YT video) the images of the dolphin play.
Can you make bubbles float down? Can you make this ring?
When you think about what the air is doing underwater and what is needed to make it do what it is doing.... there seems to be only one conclusion.
