  • Ferguson caused the hate.

  • "A 1 2 3, A 1 2 3

    Gonna drown this song"

NOT!! blah blah blah "Where the drownings are...." blah..

  • horse69outside - are you seven years old? "fucked up big time" Ha ha. Like your Mum would let you go to a concert on your own.

  • Liverpool supporter here. I have to respect this band for putting football rivalries aside and helping support the 96 who died in Sheffield that sad day. People may not know this but Liverpool and Manchester United didn't always hate each other. We had a rivalry, but we didn't hate each other. After Munich we offered our support, as the two biggest clubs in England we respected each other. Hell, we don't even remember what it feels like to have a rivalry without hate, do we? It's been too long.

  • Any Scousers coming to these Roses gigs to fight are going to get fucked up big time.

  • @horse69outside Don't think any of them will be mate. It's all about the love for the roses and to be honest, that's fight talk what you're saying right there... Look at yerself before dissing others. It's not where ya from, it's where ya at

  • Love this one, 2. xxx

  • CHOONE! & Great Slide Show! Go Mani Peace Bro! ~> DJ{UNITE}MC ~ MADCHESTER -UK

  • I thought it's about the river Mersey in Heaton mersey near stockport

  • Are you thick? The chorus goes "liverpool's where I belong, in my Mersey paradise"

  • @MrSeanRlfc its River Cool actually oktnxbai

  • @MrSeanRlfc It is "River cools". It's a play on words.

  • ok much as i hate to say it the mancs have made some of the best music ever Fact. And man utd may be as good as liverpool one day . . love this song by the way lol

  • hes biggin up the scousers in his way

  • @ahrkin Idiot

  • Other madchester/mancunian bands worth checking out, there's loads- puressence, northside, magazine, a certain ratio, nine black alps, section 25, to add to the usual charlatans, smiths, oasis etc etc

  • John squire was born in broadheath, altrincham. Ian brown was born in Warrington. They both grew up in timperley as they both moved there at an early age.

  • I grew up in skelmersdale ( parents from liverpool ) However i now live in sunny australia and the further away one gets from things the smaller they become. Liverpool v manchester doesnt mean much to me anymore ( i support everton anyway ; ) but they are both great citys that have produced some of the best football players and some of the best music that the world has ever known. Now north v south, that might still stir something in my blood and the roses are definitely northern. COME TO OZ!!

  • It makes me think a little bit to "Here comes the sun".

  • IAN do me favor my man!!! i,ll always be one of your boys, give us a shout out lad!!!!DAZ from Bishop Auckland,!!!!!!

  • its here boys!!! the best band in the fucking world!!! HAVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @johnreynoldsrock Show me where the song relates to Liverpool at all, I'm confused.

  • It's about the Mersey estate where John Squire grew up, not Liverpool.

  • i can see the mersey from my bedroom :)

  • Mersey Paradise is one of the Stone Roses most underated songs but if you like this you should search:

THE VINYLS-GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD

It only takes 3min and this band are definitely worth checking out!

  • Mani looks like Smeagol from Lord of the Rings.

  • scatter ............

  • Why is everyone going on about Liverpool? The song was written about a murder that happened at the Mersey river near Chorlton water park where I used to play as a kid. He sings River Cools where I belong not Liverpools.

  • How can this be disliked? It's just not possible !

  • Would anyone reccomend any other "madchester" bands of the time???

  • @headtrips1 Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, James, The Charlatans, New Order, The Smiths

  • barry you sond scouse kidder> Are you made of Stone?

  • @panskido Barry is my Surname, Not my first name haha & I'm not scouse (AKA, Don't get called BAZ!)

  • liverpool's where they belong, but bring on heaton park. can't wait.

  • A walk about all day with this song playin in ma head....a fuckin love it man....a fuckin love it!

  • Je ne savais pas que la Mersey coulait à manchester.

Excellent titre, un de leur meilleurs

  • its got fuck all to do with Liverpool. Its about the Mersey river in Chorlton. They actually sing "River Cools" where I belong.

  • @daviddinan1 mersey flows through liverpool ,manchester ,Warrington ,runcorn, widnes, moore and many more towns .....its about all of them ...forget football etc its about living on the side of the mersey

  • @dazbate shame about kerry katona though....she's from Warrington

  • probably my favourite song of all time!

  • wooooah!!!!!! wtf is that at 1.49??? dont think any of the roses will be happy with that!

  • @JoeGodfrey1995 i'll refer back to the higher rate of unemployment comment (a factual statistic) to in fact correct you by reminding you that you have more 'benefit bashers' AND pakis. No 2 ways about it.

  • heaven. wish i still had my MG Metro with this belting out.

  • Anyone else got the urge to smother themselves in paint? ;)

  • the stone Roses B-sides would trump most other bands' A's

  • yeah love it ..makes me happy this tune ..reminds me of my teenage years ..happy days ..and even more now im going seeing them at heaton park ...get in there :)

  • At the end of the day, Liverpool & Manchester are both city's which mainly argue over football teams... This isn't about football, This is The Stone Roses, This is about OUR Mersey paradise (That goes for Liverpool & Manchester) Now all chill the fuck out and enjoy the music! Hopefully we'll all be able to get along for three fucking days at Heaton Park ay?

  • @barryboy121 Well said mate

  • @barryboy121 I'm scouse and I absolutely love both cities more than any others on earth. So, bravo! Couldn't agree more.

  • @barryboy121 Well said lad, had the utmost pleasure of working in Manchester university recently, Great laugh was had by all on the job. its actually really good too find most of the locals enjoyed our company as much as we enjoyed theirs. plus many good sessions in one of Manchesters finest pubs. Jabaeez clegg. great beer, probably finest pint of carling ever. Wish more people would speak up the north's two greatest city's. regards.....

  • I hate to let fact get in the way of lively debate but this has nothing to do with Liverpool. The Mersey flows through Manchester as well - the band spent a lot time around Chorlton/Didsbury areas of Manchester, the Mersey flows through both. Saying that - The Stone Roses weren't into the hold Liverpoool/Manchester thing, Ian Brown "It's not where you're from, It's where you're at!". I think that was his opening line at Spike Island if my memory will go back that far.

  • @auteuristic

Great post. Love the banter between the football fans, and being a Mancunian and a United fan I'm usually in the thick of it, but taking it further is daft... both cities can be proud of our music and heritage. That's a great quote from Ian Brown... and very typical of his thinking. He's actually quite a wise bloke.

  • @GhibliFan1 That's right dude. Think of The Smiths, The Lotus Eaters, The Mondays, Gerry & The Pacemakers, the Icicle Works, Echo & the Bunnymen, Oasis, Space and of course The Stone Roses and The Beatles. I'm not a country fan but I appreciate the importance of Memphis. But to me, nowhere comes close to the North-West of England for producing quality tunes. That said, I'm from the North-West of England so maybe I'm a tad biased, lol!

  • @KernowFilms I agree cuz I'm from same area! but you forgot Joy Division! & did't you ever rate The Verve? me more then Oasis! but USA they had a killer alternative scene in the 80/90's The Pixies Nirvana, Sonic Youth, REM, The breeders, to me The stone roses were the Beatles of my generation & Nirvana were the Beatles or say Kings of The 90's, Imo much better then Oasis! but your right we are the best!! ;-)

  • @peacefrogism As a scouser who lived in Manc for a couple of years, I couldn't agree more!

  • @peacefrogism

well said la. Joe Godfrey and In moyes we trust should hang their heads in shame with their mindless stirring

  • @MartinPaul16 if you say so.

  • COLONEL GADDAFI REST IN PEACE....YOU WERE A 'BOSS'

  • @JoeGodfrey1995 dont think the stones would agree with your blatant racism

  • In 89 I think they were the most photogenic band ever, even more than The Clash. You could just feel the swagger.

  • @spasmaticcontortion bollocks it is!!! one of mans greatest achievements is discovering those little pills!!!

  • This sound sounds like good 60's stuff!!!

  • Haha if this is there best song then shoot me before I hear the rest! What a charasmatically vacant piece of noise

  • @muncherello bollocks you prick

  • and I genuinely can spell genuinely

  • @InMoyesWeTrust08 If you genuinelt think that an intelligent and thoughtful band like the Roses would even think about using the word "Pakis", then you're dimmer than i thought possible

  • JohnLennon was the reason, watching wheel,s ring a bell!!!! FACT FACT FACT FACT

  • @peacefrogism what crap, you are not from MERSEYSIDE then that's obvious! I doubt your a mankie mank so shut up manks are so hateful' I will always treat everything they do with derision & disdain

  • I've never been to Liverpool though..,.....I'm scared because Kerry Katona comes fae there

  • @asaidweeman28 kerry katona is from warrington about 20 miles from liverpool

  • @asaidweeman28 shes from warrington mate its closer to manchester tell everyone you know! i dont want anyone thinking shes from liverpool. just like sporty spice isnt from liverpool shes from over the water but doesnt correct people when they call her a scouser! and the ugly red head from girls aloud likes pretending shes a scouser when shes from runcorn also just as close to manchester as it is to liverpool. great news about the roses saw ian brown last time he was in liverpool great gig

  • @MrJobofo Warrington is a shit hole

  • Respond to this video... Hi a'm kerry katona you all gorra feel sorry for me cuz of me fooken bipolar disoda..........fucken cow

  • I go to Manchester every Tuesday from Glasgow to buy stuff for the company I work for....I fucking love the place

  • @asaidweeman28 Yeah exactly, your from glasgow.

  • @WestMidlandsThing Glasgow was the 2nd city of the British Empire so up yours

  • although i dont know what's with the LFC pictures, fuck them

  • @JoeGodfrey1995 what a wanker, manchester is scruffier than liverpool with a higher unemployment rate. Oh and thousands more pakis. They dont hate scousers or they'd have made this song offensive

  • it reminds me A LOT "Here comes the sun"!!

  • the bollocks

  • my world sorta' ended whent these guys spit up but i saw them at reading fest and a shooting star went over to tell me all was ok john squire an ian kiss make up and beg manni to come back all will be ok

and dont think i forgot reni iv'e yet to find a more awsome drummer since ledzep

  • What a cunt! The Mersey not only originates in Liverpool and DOES gently skirt the filth but this song is about time spent in Liverpool. Gobshite.

  • @keulengewehr The Mersey originates in Stockport, you ignorant fool.

  • @GedKelly1999

Not only that but also -

Ian Brown was born in Warrington, this song is a celebration of his childhood.

Old Trafford is the closest football league ground to the Mersey.

    Nevertheless, CTID!!

  • why the pictures of the Liver building and LFC this is nothing to do with Liverpool, its about the part of the River Mersey which runs through Chorlton and Stockport/Heaton Chapel (where Mani still lives by the way) and he sings 'River Cool' not Liverpool. Stockport County fact fans was the closest football league ground to the River Mersey until they got relelgated to the BSP last season, which sadly has screwed up a very good pub quiz question.

  • @bekbek78 crap Tranmere is the closest on the Wirral, FACT ) rivercool's were I belong in my Mersey paradise what crap make it up as u go along do u.... how sad but it makes me Laugh

  • any other band would kill for this song yet the roses only made it a b side. one of the greatest summer tunes ever and i'l love the way the roses produced happy tunes with dark lyrics

  • love it

  • Its about a part of the Mersey where people use to go to commit suicide! 'I want to be, where the drownings are!'

    'River cools where i belong'

  • Comment removed

  • no need for the lfc picture in there.

  • It's a piss take. Her is "Maggie Thatchers Liverpool" It's quite nice the sand near the mouth of the mersey but don't dig down too far you'll find a dark black pit.

    River splashes against the rocks

And I scale the slope and hope the tracks won't

Lead me down to dark black pits or

Places where we fall to bits

If she were there I'd hold her down

I'll push her under while she drowns and

Couldn't breathe and call for air

She doesn't care for my despair

  • Your question was, and I quote..."Were did I say they were praising my GREAT CITY????" Your answer is, and I quote..."Liverpool were's I belong In My Mersey Paradise" Misquoted lyrics, spelling, punctuative mistakes and all! As much as you think the centre of the world is a relatively small cul-de sac, you should realistically come to terms with the fact it's little more than a dead end to others. That unfortunately, is a sad fact of life. Non the less, I wish you all the best in it.

  • @Oddjob1177, you seem like a nice person, I like your considered argument, you like the roses, so let's shake hands and agree to disagree! :) xxx

  • @modmutha I absolutely agree. I do love alot of the beatles stuff, but that is despite mcartney. I saw the roses play here in Melbourne years ago and it still stands as one of the greatest experiences of my life.

  • @ Oddjob1177, I see your point, yeah the beatles were indeed prolific in comparison to the two albums and the eps the roses produced, but quantity does not neccessarily mean quality.. I'm not sayin the beatles didn't produce some great stuff, it's just that the roses were better. And Paul mccartneys a dickhead.

  • @modmuth But Ian Brown n Mani i both had the good n bad fortune to meet once ,Ian Brown is the biggest c!ck ive ever met where as mani was a top top bloke and had nothing but time for ya,Answered all your questions with a laugh etc,You cannot compare any band to the Beatles as they are a 1 off n the biggest band theres ever been , What they did in the 6-7 years will never be surpassed ,Beatles Smallest selling album sold more than any Roses album ! Im a big Roses fan too so im not being biased !

  • That Summer. We had youth, Ecstasy and The Stone Roses. It was the best.

  • @mrpaulmarwood Next summer we can be geriatrics, on painkillers and have the Stone Roses, and it will be the best

  • @mrpaulmarwood summer 2012. your as young as you feel. the roses are back and ecstasy hasnt gone away.

  • i still listen t the roses every day n neva get sick of hearing them n neva will!!!!

  • The beatles dwarf the Roses in every musical sense , But for there time the Roses were the best band around , But you cannot call a band that made 1 great album and 1 decent album the best band of all time , You just cant !!!

  • I've been listening to this song over and over again.....it's making me mentally ill...or......more mentally ill.

  • @1888gallagher couldn't agree more. We've all been indoctrinated into thinking the beatles were the best band ever. And it's become a sort of fauxpas to say otherwise... But I'm saying it... The roses were and still are the greatest band ever.

  • Superb. We will never hear the likes of them again. The best band to walk the planet, bar none

  • roses are the best band of all time thats my opinion i wouldne even put the beatles in ma top 10 i think that ringo star is a bit of a tit if you think thats harsh watch him get interviewed with Johnathon ross hate when these stars forget where they come from

  • @thenewfella1994: Well the guitar work and the drums are the equal of anything in pop. The songwriting is excellent although their quality output is slight compared to the Fab Four. But they have a great sound and you have got to love that drummer: he is one of the best to ever sit behind a set of traps. Bridge on this song is a good example of how good the lead guitar could be. Example: drum fill at 2.10 is fantastic. End drum riff is fantastic. There is a reason Townsend liked Reni so well.

  • @thenewfella1994 music is a matter of oppinions mate. in my oppinion the beatles where so big for a reason and it wasnt because they wasnt the best looking band around, which they probably wasnt. I totaly agree some of thier songs are absoloutly shite (not 1 artist in the world hasnt had a shite song) but youve only got to look at songs like 'in my life' to see their musical genious. They inspired a whole new genration and will probably inspire future generations.

  • @thenewfella1994 the smiths are better than the beatles ? dont think so. the beatles changed music, the smiths mania ? never heard of that, i have heard of beatlesmania though

  • @thenewfella1994 gerry and the pacemakers, the wombats, space and many many more. ie. the mersey beat era. Liverpool will always be the home of music. many irish bands such as the script have a lot of inspiration from the city of liverpool. As good as oasis are there will never again and never was a reaction to a band like the beatles

  • reni looks tired 1:54

  • is this taking the piss out of liverpool? cant really tell..

  • RIP stone roses.

  • even as a scott ad defo say th mancs have some serious musical breedin grounds

    best in the land

  • I wish I was scouse

  • @Seebbew Mate, this is a manc band singing a manc song, and before everyone starts, the Mersey runs through Manchester too,

  • @monkeytutz2 - I know man, still want to be scouse :)

  • the mersey goes both ways up to manchester an down to liverpool via widnes and penketh warrington and runcorn next to the manchester ship canal, it was a saying back then river cool, Widnes was the best concert but shit sound for the stone roses(spike island) mind you everyone was either stoned or pilling no one gave a shit....i miss me youth...if only i could borrow the fikin dr who tardis and go bk i would. best song n days of me life.

  • oasis stole everything fr this band

they coulda been bigger but for record contracts

up step oasis aving stole the bands identity

    the rest is history

  • @lamvespa Totally agree. Liam Gallagher has done v.well out of stealing everything from Ian Brown and John Lennon.

  • The drumming in this is just f*****g badass! LONG LIVE THE ROSES!

  • How great were the Stone Roses? Their B-Sides were better than anybody elses singles!!!!

  • @STONEROSESFTW its river cools mate, this song isnt about liverpool the mersey runs through timperbly snd he used to live and he used to relax and smoke weed by the river. also the first part of the song is about thatcher and how she tried to destroy the north of england

  • Stone roses are my favourite band, their debut is my favourite album, mersey paradise is my favourite song at the moment and liverpool is my favourite football club.I'm lighting a ciggarette and I enjoy

  • SR are nothing more than depression blasters, make me happy as soon as I turn the Volume on, goddly tunes in my ears. Man, are they still relevantly good!!!

  • This song kicks ass!

  • Fab tune...love the Roses :) :)

  • It's in Cheshire, between Manchester & Liverpool.

  • Ian Brown is originally from Warrington.

  • the guitar melody intro sounds like the melody to "Here comes the sun" by the Beatles.. am I alone here?

  • @lionislionislion yes you are lol :p

  • The Stone Roses are legends. Way ahead of their time. I love The Charlatans too. I'm a Liverpool fan, from Wales, now living in Canada. It doesn't matter where you come from, we are all proud to be who we are. People over analysing the lyrics need a slap, just enjoy the great music and not be so fucking narrowminded.

  • quality song quality band

  • who cares about where the Mersey river runs?!? just enjoy the fucking music; one of the best bands of all time

  • absoloute mega roses song.

  • The photo of the Liverpool Champions League winning side was a nice touch, even though the Stone Roses members followed either Manchester United or Manchester City...

  • favourite roses song ever

  • The Mersey runs through Warrington as well - I thought Ian Brown was originally from Warrington, so it might have something to do with that.

  • mersey runs through stockport as well.

  • whatever its about its amazing, probarbly my all time favourite song

  • Remember playing this song with John at uni....good memories....slightly blurred though lol!

  • Quite possibly the best tune in the world!

  • i love this tune so much it hurts when i dont hear it ! ok a bit over the top but it is an awsome tune !!

  • Does it get any better?

  • not really.... :

  • Comment removed

  • so isnt this song a piss take of Liverpool cus im a scouser and iv seen loads of comments from mancs sayin its a piss take

  • nah its not a piss take, i heard it was about suicides happening off runcorn bridge.

  • i know shortly after making my comment i was told that and when you look at the lyrics it makes perfect sense

  • The river Mersey runs through a little nature reserve in Chorlton, Manchester... Nice spot, Brown and Squire used to live near there. It's not a piss take of L'pool... Those 2 weren't negative like that. "If she were her I'd hold her down"... got to be about Thatcher, bitch tried to scrub the North of England off the map all through the 80's... FAILED.

  • @APublicDomain yer right m8 thatcher is a cow!

  • @APublicDomain good comment makes sense that .. well done you ..

stupid mancs claiming its about slagging off another city . manchester and liverpool are both world class cities and should be proud of themselves . great rivarlry in both football and music .. north west legends

  • @APublicDomain well said fella

  • @APublicDomain LOVE YOUR COMMENT ... THATCHER IS ILL PRAY TO GOD SHE WILL DIE A PAINFULL DEATH FOR THE PAIN SHE HAS CAUSED THE EVIL WITCH TEBBIT TO FOLLOW SOON DIRTY TORY SCUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well said mate.

  • @APublicDomain The song was written about their gig at Spike Island.

  • @HONDOMACLEAN83 Whoever told you that mate was full of it! The song was released nearly 2 years before that gig. Get your facts straight fella before you wade in, some of us were buying these tunes at the time and were at that gig remember.

  • @APublicDomain This song was inspired by John Lennon, Liverpool were's I belong In My Mersey Paradise, So are you saying LIVERPOOL is in mankie land, Grow up he is a Mank who ain't envious of The greatest city in ENGLAND..!!!!

  • @rchapman4444 That's absolutely hilarious. Wether you're drunk or stupid I can't tell, but either way you're out of your depth kid. As I said, this song is "not a piss take of L'pool"... but if you're deluded or misinformed enough to believe that Squire/Brown were writing songs in praise of that city and not Manchester in the 1980's you need to seriously check yourself/your facts or the lyrics. What's next kid... Cemetery Gates by The Smiths was "inspired by" a boneyard in Bootle...(?) END OF.

  • @APublicDomain Were did I say they were praising my GREAT CITY???? please read carefully as to not confuse yourself again!!!!

  • Not sure mate but the River Mersey runs through Manchester as well so there might be somet in that!

  • lol your a scouser

  • way cool song.

  • long live the roses
