It is a dialet, however, the purpose of this program is not arguing about "language", the root of the problem (which you don't really know) is because KMT forced mandarin upon people in Taiwan and forcing several rules to suppress Taiwanese culture - this is a political policy to destroy some minority culture. Taiwanese is a bit unique because it incorporates some Japanese. If you don't understand the entire issue, you should learn to be open-minded and do your research before commenting.
You obviously don't understand 台语 or 闽南话 - if you know them, you won't say that. This program is promoting of freedom of learning one's native culture, you must from China - where those freedom is not very familiar with regular citizen. Poor you.
Yeah, obviously, you also do not understand our China. Of course, Taiwan has their own native culture, of courese, there are some differences between the two languages, but you also can not deney that Tai Yu is origin from Min Nan dialog.
No, I didn't deny its origin. It originated from China Min Nan dialet. However it evolved dramatically. When friends from Fujin spoke, I can hardly understand them. Nor I claim that I understand China - which is a big country contains hundreds of dialets. My point is: we should promot different local cultures and not forcing Mandarin to replace thier mother tongue. Agree that all Chinese should learn official language, but no one should lose thier mother tongue. Those are valuable assets!

Just like I still know my hometown dialog " wu nong ruan yu", I really believe that it's the valuable assets.

Well, how come do you think learning official language and remaining your mother tongue are in confronting positions??
