They were in such spectacular voice. However, the stage floor mike picking up the prompter is hilarious. Such was the case when broadcasts had to picked up since there weren't microphones all over the stage and house!
I could care less about his high notes (okay maybe not), I love Pavarotti for his dark, luxurious timbre, covered middle voice and elagant, solid technique.
Christmas (Mass of Christ) was created by the sexually perverted Roman Catholic church. The Catholic church was created by Lucifer (Satan).
Why do most non-Catholics, and many Christians, celebrate this wildly wicked weird witchcraft holiday from the weathered old Roman religion of rapists? It's beautiful side of evil?...Well, evil, is still evil, no matter how it is served to you.
Am I the only one who can hear a guy speaking out the text in the background, arround 1 sec before they sing it?? Specialy when sutterland start to sing at 1:20. There is a guy speaking the text, 1 sec before she sings! So wierd =D
Joan came to a concert in Atlanta once, and brought out her music stand and sang from the music. Didn't see her face much. Guess she has a memory problem.
Sutherland is a great singer, but she has weird dynamics and gets "flutey" far too much. Great voice, not a great singer. Sills does all this repatory better. But there
@heigei1 Yes, really a sad day. I consider myself blessed for having had the opportunity of seeing and hearing her "live" during a number of her performances. Her voice was magical. I have never heard anyone sing coloratura like she did. Rest in peace, dear Joan.

Just such a great pairing of voices. He is superb, she is the best. How great that we have these two voices recorded so much together. Their recordings of pieces are so great.
Pavarotti studied under the very best. He learned his breathing techniques under her. She showed him "control"...to be able to sing multiple engagements in a short period of time...something he could not do before he partnered with her. What a fabulous time of his then young life...They were fabulous together!
@BitterDemo I agree this is fantastic as well, though personal taste is a freedom that we in America should relish and understand. Thankfully we are Not all the same. I revel in other folk's tastes, even though i may not enjoy them as they do, or at all. It's Not a "terrible shame" that some do not appreciate certain types of music (or foods for that matter), it's a shame that common folk's opinions of others' tastes get in the way of a common understanding; peace.
Joan and Leontyne Price are the last two great sopranos still living that were born in the 1920's. I saw Joan many times; my house (Sutherland House) is named after her. A truely wonderful woman.

I never liked Southerlan, I think ver voice is beautiful but it is flat and does not have that resonating depth. Especially at the highs are too rude, not nearly as subtle as Anna Moffo's
O "Un dì felice, eterea" (o primeiro no vídeo) é do Ato 1, enquanto o outro é do Ato 4, o último da ópera. :-)

Glorious, glorious, glorious, both duets, from both of them. How lovely to hear Luciano when he sang ultra-sensitively. I have heard major excerpts from this performance, and someone should issue it on CD. It shows both of them at their best, and is exciting and dramatic, to boot--far superior to their studio recording, and, in my opinion, the most beautifully sung Traviata performance of all time.
Pavarotti is or was a great tenor that a succesful life. Il est un bon chanteur d'opera.......
Hey blueballs, sorry I spelled heirs instead of hairs as in hair on your blue balls. But thanks for your splendid additions on youtube Bono natale. Lissten to Luciano sing Tu Shende dalle Stelle or as my dad called it La note' de natale.

strange to hear Big Luciano with such a "male" voice especially in the first part. At the beginning of Parigi oh cara, he seems a little uncertain but the rendition is very pleasant. thanks
Big Pava is my fav tenor but I would not call Brownlee a can of coke. Let's say both are champaign. But Big Pava is a Dom Perignon and Brownlee is Moet Chandon. The latter is very good, the former is fantastic. Let's give credit where credit is due.
Brownlee is undoubtedly a fine singer, but Pavarotti may well be the last of the true Italian tenors. The timbre and ring of his voice is unmatched by anyone else in recent history. Credit to Mr. Brownlee, Luciano is vastly better in my opinion.

strange to hear Big Luciano with such a "male" voice especially in the first part. At the beginning of Parigi oh cara, he seems a little uncertain but the rendition is very pleasant. thanks

Pavarotti also sings marvellously in 1967 on the Karajan dvd of Verdu's Requiem also available on YouTube

After listening to Villazon and Netrebko in La Traviata's pop-opera version, Big Pava and La Stupenda feels like operatic therapy!
