You just don't see this in elections. This is relief, and amazement at ourselves, and pride, and an awakening. I heard one newscaster say "It's like New Year's"; and it is. We are celebrating a new potential. We have once again given birth to ourselves. Whatever happens, we can look back on this day and remember one of the few times when people took to the streets for a GLAD occasion! Not a protest...and we can be so very proud.
Yes We Can...flush what's left of American Liberty right down the toilet, along with whatever leftover prosperity we've been riding on the coattails of for the past 50 yrs. or so.
This whole thing is just creepy. I know people are happy that BushCo are going away, but man...get a grip. He's a suit with massive media backing, not the Second Coming.
May God have mercy on us all... No, this wasn't an emperor being overthrown. This was simply another one of those horrific moments in History, when men march lockstep with their leader. He will take us to the edge of the abyss, I believe. Now an incompetent old God-King with a new, charismatic, ambitious, and above all deceptive leader. If Obama doesn't come around to the side of good, I can feel the clouds already covering this once great land.
Cheering for their own enslavement - pathetic. It's truly sad the extent to which America's heritage of individualism and self-reliance has deteriorated.
What was being celebrated here? Peace, Freedom, or a new Leader?
For those thinking this was like celebrating the blowing up of the Death Star - the more appropriate analogy is parading through the streets celebrating when Emperor Palpatine threw the Senate out on their asses.
Keep Celebrating... It'll give you happy times to remember when we suffer through our world of gray.
"Yes we can!" -- What can you do other than be mindless Statist cult members? The State is the enemy. Now it has a new frontman. Big deal. When Obama murders people in Pakistan, etc., will this rabble cheer? So when Obama kills, it's good, when Bush does it, it's bad. Yes, we can doublethink! Honestly, this is a chilling display. They'll be members of the fascist green squads.
Why did they wait until after the election to march in the streets? There was plenty to march about long before that. I'm afraid that they'll be disappointed if they think that Obama was the peace candidate. Or maybe the left will become war-lovers now that one of their own is running the wars. We'll see how serious the anti-war movement really is. Or maybe they're just celebrating what they see as a new chance for socialism -- as if the Bush administration wasn't doing enough of that already.
Democracy in Action is not only showing up to vote, but showing up in the streets. I am very happy we let loose last night for this celebration. Let it be the first of many for this new era!
I was there, too! let that be a lesson to all those nuts out there who claim that Berkeley is a communist haven - we sang the National Anthem, and waved the American flag, and shouted USA! USA! USA! ad infinitum...

Fuck Obama. Fuck Democrats. All they did was lie, bash republicans and decieve their country. I have had enough. They put politics before country.

I wonder how overjoyed they'll be when Obama gets his Civilian Army up and running (to do whatever gawed-awful thing he has in mind)?

Potential defined by what? How would assess Obama's change? What lies ahead?

This video brings two things to mind: 1) A Bay Area resident of yore who later moved to South America and 2) A delicious powdered children's beverage

Obama's pro-war and pro-oppression policies are going to really disappoint these poor schmucks very soon.

hahaha Ron Paul! Keep that candle burning as long as possible.

You know, I don't think I quite grasped just what the statement "Democracy is a mob rule beauty pageant" really *meant* before.
But I fancy I understand it now.
I can only hope that, for the sake of all those trusting souls, Obama is who they *think* he is.
(You know, seeing as how campaign promises are entirely non-binding and all.)
