The protesters were not protesting "Freedom of speech" but the legitimacy given to the Nazi BNP by the Oxford Union. I'm not an extremist. a) I did not shout it, b)Purportedly someone else did, but they did not actually murder anyone did they? That they should be condemned for their use of language, contradicts your erroneous "freedom of speech no matter how much it sickens me" ethos, does it not? The BNPs sole aim is to ferment racial tensions within our society. I cannot be held accountable for the consequences, anymore than I can if Abu Hamza was allowed to go and and give lectures at Sandhurst.

And if any specific organization be it Islamist, Anarchist or Communist (as noted in your original comment) were associated with as many convicted terrorists and explosives hauls as the BNP are, inc David Copeland, Robert Cottage, Tony Locember, Allen Boyce: should that organization not be shut down? Furthermore, how would you feel if such an organization were invited to speak freely at a university or college that your children attend? You would be first in line to be outraged, wouldn't you?

Yes I would be angry but I wouldnt yell for murder of the union president and I would see it more effective letting them speak- then tearing their rediculous views apart. By opposing freedom of speech- albeit for extremists like Nick Griffin, you are attacking the freedom you claim you represent. If BNP activists commited violent crime in Oxford that night then yes, they should be arrested. The only people I saw out of control were some of the protesters.

The protesters were not protesting "Freedom of speech" but the legitimacy given to the Nazi BNP by the Oxford Union. I do not believe that the principle of freedom of speech gives people a right to propagate racist and religious hatred within a democratic society. Oswald Mosley was not prevented from marching with his Fascist Black Shirts through the East End of London by tea and sympathy. I for one am proud that the British People have oft times taken to the streets and given fascism the boot.

Having said that I am glad that the incident passed as it did, with no casualties, few arrests, Griffin famed for his holocaust denial, Oxford union looking like a bunch of publicity seeking toffs, and the British Public showing to the world why this country never has and never will succumb to the Nazi.
