@SIGNALSTAT I heard it's four cents! Either way 'A cynic is one who knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing' Good ol' Oscar Wilde, and the Kingston Trio!
Always loved this song and the Kingston Trio from the "golden era" of folk music during the Kennedy years. There were so many great groups and TV shows like "Hootinany" in that wonderful time.
You do recall when the word "damn" was banned on radio plays of this song, don't you, Claudia?...darn it. Bob Shane always used to humorusly ruminate on this dopey restriction. Nice to hear it over YouTube. Regards, John

@Rinnexn this song defines how young people should feel. Only when your old does the greenback dollar weigh you down!

The people who dislike this song obviously couldn't have lived in that era.

curious this picture : Dave Guard don't ever sing "Greenback Dollar" with the Trio, the leader was John Stewart.

This may be where The Doug Anthony Allstars took their style of music or sound from!

Another version of this song was recorded by The Virginians on the Colpix label in the same 1963 time frame, and both versions were pretty good.
