we only officially got the "squareback" and the "fastback" here in the USA. The Notchbacks were personal imports. Back then there wasn't as much red tape to import a car in the USA. VW should have made a 4 door version. The 411 and 412 were to late and to much money.
Yep, they were exported to the US after the Variant (squareback) was introduced in 1966, until they stopped production in 1973. We missed out on the first 5 years of production, but the cars did make it here, all variants.
We got squarebacks and fastbacks the notch was import only

Nope. Any notch that is in the states was brought in from Canada or Mexico by individuals. I have two of them.
