This is from a documentary/mocumentary ?? called Alternative 3 by David Ambrose and Christopher Miles based on a (banned in America) book by by Leslie Watkins.
The footage was most likely shot from a helicopter somewhere in Death Valley National Park (or someplace like that.)
Nevertheless, apart from the fact that the sky on Mars is more of a brownish colour, the footage is quite convincing. Good thing it just intended to be an April Fool's prank!

@montedjuro Look at the latest NASA pics they are more real looking than the Old Viking era type images. which had a reddish layer all over the photo. even red sand and red rocks which is not true.

Well my opinion is that they faked it by sending a small flying remote controlled vehicle with a camera somewhere in a dry place on Earth.

2. direct radio contact with huston takes 15 min. to travel to mar...and another 15min. to get back....so talking back and forth is impossable... but i loved it!

This is very similar to Viking views of Mars Surface; also this is very similar to the views from Pathfinder, Opportunity and Spirit when the colors are correctly calibrated--not the deliberate over-red of NASA's "sanitized" pictures. The truth is never evil.

I dont understand why many of you react so strongly to the video. Who ever posted never appeared to have said "this is a real Mars landing"! Nevertheless, these kind of videos will catch your attention and leave you with disappointment during the browsing process. I think youtube should do something about it...may be more effective rating system or something?

I like how everybody here just jumps on the science and spouts everything they know about atmospheres etc etc. What is glaringly obvious, is the manoeveres that the craft is performing. The lander that touched down TODAY 2008, didn't have the free range of movement as the craft in this alledged video has. This conclusively ahould prove that the video is a mock-up. Oh, and the statements from the dozens who saw the programme on TV is the final nail.

This is a scene from the pilot of a British TV show that was never picked up. It dates back to 1972 or so.
You can search many places and find that it's just that. Nothing more than a bad show that never made it.
Just a hoax being perpetrated as the real deal, it's been around for years.

the show is Alternative 3... but, as in many movies, "THEY" do speak the truth but disguise it in the movie as just a sub plot or just rhetoric speech. Sad that they don't just tell us the truth though.
