LEAVE YOUR EXHUAST ALONE.. There is not that much noticable sound difference in exhuast systems to justify a performance loss .. You lose hp by putting a retarted exhuast systems on these they need the back pressure in the system and the exhuast already breaths pretty freely stock ..Im an ASE master mechanic with a bachelors in automotive engineering i work at a dyno lab trust me Ive tested exhuast systems and i own an eclipse ..
I have an eclipse to, i have a question for you. I'm getting it 3 inched from a local muffler shop straight piped but i'm putting a fart pipe on the end. I'm wondering what you think, Megan, skunk2 or tanabe for the end muffler. I want it to be loud and sound good performance wise. Thanks so much
stock sounds alot like the G35, not surprising since the VQ is a 3.5 liter V6 and the Eclipse is a 3.8L. Anybody else agree it sounds sorta similar to a 350Z/G35?
Let me guess you've never heard of blowing the glasspacks out? Well that's why I now have a flowmaster 40series on mine. I used to have a 60 series but I drove it to hard the first week I had it and it blew the glasspacks. It can happen. But you don't have to take my word for it.
Yea there is, I could smell the burning, a.k.a. breaking it in, the first week I had the car. And my friend had the same smell when he first got his Dynomax. And yea there is fiberglass in the 40 and 60 series Flowmasters.
And that is also the reason why they get louder with time, cause you're breaking up the fiberglass so it resonates better giving it a deeper and louder tone.
chambered mufflers aka 40 series, 60 series etc DO NOT have packing in them. i have gutted them before, taking a grinding wheel and chopping out the guts of it to make my trans am louder and the only thing they have in there are little fins, kinda like the drawings they make on the back of the boxes they come in. and yes, i know the smell.. its the combo of the new metal/paint of the muffler heating up and cooling down the first few times, mixing with any condensation in it too.
Ok, and it just happens that a stainless muffler has the exact same smell? where's the paint on those. Dude I don't care what you say, but there is Fiberglass packing in them. I smelled it and I've smelled the same exact thing on many different aftermarket exhausts. Besides my 40 series isn't even painted, so there goes that theory. And a dynomax that they show having Fiberglass packing on the box it comes in, smells the same as well. Not painted either.
dynomax is packed.. flowmasters all have a ceramic coating on them. i will not argue because i have cut one open already and it only revealed a series of fins to direct flow. thats it. who the hell would put flowmasters on any foriegn caranyway. nuff said.
It sounds badass on my car, not the best quality camera on the videos in my profile, but it's still badass. Not to mention it got an even deeper sound when I got my K&N short ram intake on there. And on the back of the diagram of my 60 series it showed a chamber for the Fiberglass packing. All I'm saying is that I smelled it, and it smells the exact same as when my friend with an 02 Eclipse GS put his Dynomax on his car.

that is deff.not a POS but i do have 2 agree about not rev"n high enough lol
twiztidclownboy6 5 years ago
If you rev too high when the exhaust is brand new you'll blow the glasspacks out of it. That's probably why he didn't rev it very high.

Uh...or not.
