Per Moody's Economy, BLS, and CBO, the Republicans' "alternative stimulus plan" that they tout as "creating twice the jobs at half the cost", would have created slightly more than half the number of jobs projected for the plan that passed, and would have cost $3.1T over the next ten years - over three times the price of Obama's plan. The Senate version, put forth by McCain, was basically a Xerox of the House plan.
In effect, the Repubs offered nothing credible and are still lying about it.
1st stimulus (not TARP, not the annual budget), hasn't begun, yet... for the most part... so his declaring it a failure, and in need of a revamp... is a ~bit~ premature.
One of the Cantor initiatives that would go a long way in the creation of new jobs is the Republican proposal to eliminate the death tax. If we would stop taxing inheritances of $5 million plus, we'd free up a considerable amount of capital that would then be invested in job creating enterprises. Here in Alabama, most people support an end to the death tax precisely for its job creation potential. I imagine the same is true in other states. Cantor needs to bring up this issue more often.
When will Cantor and the republican party realize they were not elected so they dont get to make the rules? The people have spoken and they have spoken Democratic.
C'mon, seriously..."you lose" is the best you can do. How about a point before you declare victory. Simply saying more of the same is not a point. Only, 'trickle-down' does work and our economic history confirms as much.
Again, Bush's economic policies certainly weren't optimal, and pretty far from what I would have liked to see (as they were too far left). However they were infinitely better than those currently being implemented, and the thing sthat he did get right kept us from complete disaster. The complete disaster that is now imminent.
Last year republicans were rallying behind Bush, "4 more years" seems too easy for you to discredit has as far left. The "complete disaster" already happened, and happened under Bush's watch, How could you even say "kept from disaster" you moron! "trickle down" doesn't work, companies continue to keep employee pay as low as possible and pocket the extra money.
"Your analysts" are as crazy as you are, bozo. How about listening to some economists for a change? Stiglitz and Krugman are both very worried that the stimulus wasn't big enough, and Stiglitz says right out there shouldn't have been any tax cuts; they cost the same and achieve half the effect, according to the CBO.

In the case of interfering with markets, better to have no plan at all, than a plan that expands government immensely and destroys wealth and properity. So, even if you say 'the Republicans have no plan', that is actually a compliment.
Since both my comment and yours disappeared I'll respond to your post here. No, the is a plan and that is to do exactly the same thing they have been doing which is precisely the problem. Arnold Schwarznegger said it best when he said, "We have the infrastructure of a develop-ING (emphasis his) country not a developed country." Aggregate demand through deficit spending through social programs and the war was exactly what pulled us out of the last Depression (and we may be in one now).
Everything you do in washington should be focused on the American people & getting us out of this recession.
God these fucking republicans are so sleezy & selfish. EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO POSITION YOURSELVES FOR THE NEXT ELECTION!!! If they really gave a shit they would be making sure the money went where it was supposed to instead of just bitching about it.
"So then why did republicans not focus on creating and sustaining jobs over the last 8 years?"
It's part of the cycle.
Fuck everything up, lose the election (on purpose this time), shift the blame to the democrats for not fixing the problems quickly enough. Then when everything's just starting to look good again, they run a campaign in which they avoid criticism of their last stint in office and criticize the opposition for not having shifted their policy to account for the economic upturn yet.
That includes 57 million for the marshy field mouse of S California!
The mice will be much better off than the Californians; & preferential wages for illegals (75% of new births in TX are illegals)!
(NYC refuses to prosecute over 100 Wall Street executives who used the corporate credit cards for prostitution - In one case $40K, and in another $27,000)
Thank god my money is in a foreign currency! The worse America performs, the more money I make!
The GOP alleges that money allocated to federal wetlands restoration projects amounts to $30 million, and in a typical moment of histrionics has reduced it to saving a mouse, although according to the GOP source originating the claim (from the blog of Greg Sargent) "There is not specific language in the legislation for this project,"
Yes! My ancestors, the Western Shawnee Indians (Western Appalachians), indeed stole the North American continent from Aborigine's from Australia who had inhabited the continent 30K years prior to Asian immigration some 10K years ago
But even among indigenous Indian tribes, freeloading was deemed immoral! Isn't it?!
"It is a funny thing but anthropologists have built a significant picture of the "original" Americans being an extremely peaceful society."
Hmm, that is certainly not what I learned in school. My social studies and history texts in regards to new world history generally did a good job of pointing out pre-existing conflicts between different tribes. As well as how the french and english took advantage of them for the purpose of essentially gaining human fodder for their own conflicts.
Show me YOUR BILL and I'll MAYBE believe YOU made it, Republicans r so corrupt and think we are all sheep. They think we believe everything, if you believe this guy, i feel sorry for ya.
their bill was ALL TAX CUTS. maybe he doesn't realize, but tax cuts = loss of federal revenue year after year after year. that proposal would have been far more expensive in the long run.
My question as an nonpartisan nonamericann "bystander" to Mr Cantor would be:
Why was not this "proposal" of yours that would save and create twice as many jobs as Obama's Bill proposed during the last 8 years?
To me it seems only a very sick person could honestly argue that their "bill" is better then anyonne else after running the world in the tank for 8 straight years
I love how the Do-Nothing party is all over Obama. How does he know the first package didn't work, because the stock market didn't like it?
The Dow is a poor indicator of the economy. It's easily influenced by the hysteria of the moment, & is controlled by a pack of people who were the main cause of this recession who are still in power & still ripping off the tax payers. Let's see how the other indexes do like foreclosure rates, unemployment & spending do before we put the toe tag on Obama.
blaste...come on , don't talk like that! After all his wife IS the vice president to a bank that took money (millions) from the last adm.......let's allow the poor jew to enjoy at least a house in Palm Beach!!!
Another dynamic Republican speaker. It's no wonder that the Rushbo has people listening since he can at least keep your attention for more than 30 seconds, rather you like what you hear or not.
I love the irony spewing out of this mans mouth. While the country was steadily declining economically under his regime. People like him were the first to grab on to Bush's belt loop and barely challenged anything that came across the table in eight years. Having certain philosophies is fine, but diving into collective group thinking isn't going to get us anywhere. Instead of bashing every plan thats presented. Come up with a legitimate package yourself. Instead of the old tactics of the past.
I was approved for a 390,000 dollar home in 2002. I was applying for a 125,000 home. The point is, The loan officer nor the bank seemed to care that I would not be able to afford it. He wanted as much commission as possible and the banks wanted my receivable on the books. I stuck with what I could afford. At that time the banks were crawling over each other get in debt. The Right will say Bill Clinton forced this due to the community reinvestment act. MY ASS!!

sugarpuddin88 2 years ago
The GOP alleges that money allocated to federal wetlands restoration projects amounts to $30 million, and in a typical moment of histrionics has reduced it to saving a mouse, although according to the GOP source originating the claim (from the blog of Greg Sargent) "There is not specific language in the legislation for this project,"
As usual the GOP is exaggerating for effect.

Americans lost all but no. 3 of their Bill of Rights
TARP + newest bailout = 9.7 trillion - No exaggeration!
102 Trill for SS & medicare
14 trill previous debt owed to the privately owned FED Reserve bank, (America doesn't even print its own money)
53 trill plundered from other trusts
All my 401s & IRAs are in foreign currency; and I purchased a 2nd citizenship
Americans have the government they deserve!

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

"The mice will be much better off than the Californians; & preferential wages for illegals (75% of new births in TX are illegals)!"
Are to illegals perhaps, but the child itself is LEGAL.
That just tears you up, doesn't it? How dare they cross your borders and move into your country!
It'ss yours dammit, your ancestors stole it fair and square, and fuck anyone who thinks they can take it away, or back, right?

"Thank god my money is in a foreign currency! The worse America performs, the more money I make!
Go America Go! "
Do you say this everywhere you go, and thats why I've seen it before, or are you just cooking copypasta?

Isn't it?!
sugarpuddin88 2 years ago
Yup, about as immoral as branding the child for the transgressions of the parents.
Please forgive me for assuming you were descended from colonials or relatively recent immigrants, I perhaps read too deeply into your comment...
The aboriginee's bit there is rather funny
JebusGeist 2 years ago
It is a funny thing but anthropologists have built a significant picture of the "original" Americans being an extremely peaceful society.
Cave drawings depict genocide of the Australian Aborigine's by Asian immigrants seeking hegemony
In the final analysis, the USA rewards the poorly managed companies, banks & peoples
It has made a society that is 2nd only to Mexico in poverty & illiteracy (among industrialized nations)

Coulda, shoulda, woulda, give me a break!
These dogs are reduced to returning to their own vomit for nourishment.
Evidently, they want Obama to be the Uber Republican they always aspired to, but failed at miserably.
That's their version of bipartisan politics.

Show me YOUR BILL and I'll MAYBE believe YOU made it, Republicans r so corrupt and think we are all sheep. They think we believe everything, if you believe this guy, i feel sorry for ya.

their bill was ALL TAX CUTS. maybe he doesn't realize, but tax cuts = loss of federal revenue year after year after year. that proposal would have been far more expensive in the long run.
jlobsien 2 years ago 8
My question as an nonpartisan nonamericann "bystander" to Mr Cantor would be:
Why was not this "proposal" of yours that would save and create twice as many jobs as Obama's Bill proposed during the last 8 years?
To me it seems only a very sick person could honestly argue that their "bill" is better then anyonne else after running the world in the tank for 8 straight years
I'm just saying.....

Instead of the old tactics of the past.

the problems now faced by our country, is mostly due to the private sector, not any government.

When the Repubs were in complete control the difference between the Fed and the private sector was miniscule.

MY ASS!!
bassmasterkt 2 years ago 8
Well put Cnedive, maybe Rush Windbag can come up with an alternate solution the republican party can use...maybe.
