The Album was not ahead of it's time. The song is reminiscent of Hendrix and progressive rock of the early 70's. Check out Hendrix-EZ Rider or Room Full of Mirrors for example.
Frankly I think this version of ''Scary monsters...'' is the best among the on stage tracks that are turning 'round on the Tube. I checked it out. Happily...
he's a true artist. like picasso he never stopped creating, he just goes on and on because it's all he knows. scarey monsters album remains a benchmark. apart from tthe track 'fashion' which is truly shit lol
The Scary Monsters album was prescient, back when it came out and the song "It's No Game" anticipated the assasination of of John Lennon. We rocked the Shit out of that album back in the day and it stands the test of time.
i prefer Outside, but all of his images are perfect, simply perfect! he moves different, he sings different, his mimicry is different... he's not a chameleon. a chameleon can"t change everything about himself. all of his areas are better and better... ok i stop it... :)
I always think he wrote the whole Scary Monstersv- album 16 years too early. The feeling in the album fits much better whith his style in 96 than it did in 1980. It's a really good album, one of my absolute top five.
cant hear it

Brilliant song but what piss poor guitar playing on this live version. Fripp's guitar playing on the record just stomps all over this.

Bowie was well ahead of his time musically, but thanks for that because he is still relevant and loved for his extreme talent!

This happened 11 days before I was born. :) Yet it feels strangely recent.

I can't stop being amazed by the many faces of this man and how he excells at every style he plays.
There just aren't artists like The Thin White Duke out there anymore.
