You could also escape one of the same ways you could counter a muay thai clench standing. As soon as he grabs for your head feed your hands under his arms and grab the back of his neck/head and push your elbows up forcing out his arms. You could also just pull him down to break his posture.
On a side note this is super dangerous; I had some brand new joker try this on me and instead of gradual pressure he jerked my head down extremely fast and strained my neck muscles and shifted my upper spin
The most effective escape I have found is when the head is being lifted you need to put both hands right under the chin(palms to chin) of the person trying this crap. Make sure you push up and try to lock your arms out while bringing your head to the ground. I would say just try the escape if some dick is trying to put you in this.
Also you are in no danger of being submitted with an armlock or key-lock when your arms are fully extended because you can still regain your guard.
"Oh this is horrible to teach, you shouldn't teach this you can seriously hurt your opponent" Well maybe you should stop bitching and realize that BJJ is more than a sport, it started off as a martial art, and because of panzies like you it's becoming a sport martial art just like Judo and TKD.
absolute garbage. This isn't a technique that should be demonstrated to a white belt. In jiu jitsu competitions ( as well as most submission wrestling competitions) it's illegal anyhow....
Teaching this garbage to unexperienced grapplers will end up getting someone seriously hurt.
@serdgeedgerunner I don't know any specific escapes for it. I suppose you should just try not to get caught in it if it's legal in a competition. Or if you do get caught with it, just open the guard yourself, and play open guard.
this is horrible for the neck, you can damage your oppenent not just right away, but over time the joint can degenerate. You shouldnt practise this in the gym, unless you are competing in mma.
You put your hand on the guys chin, so when he pulls in there is pressure on his neck also and you can also then swing over and arm bar him. BTW I learned that earlier today in class. Lol.
Nice move, I use it a lot. However, I find it more practical to hop up on both feet. Also while prying the neck, shoot your pelvis inwards, this "compresses" him further, and leaves you in a better position to push the legs to one side and pass.

How is it garbage?
TheSenseofTouch 2 years ago
@insdel2004 It would be nice to learn how to escape from it. It is quite common in other kinds of submission wrestling like SAMBO
