  • do you still have the conrail sd60?

  • How many cars can you pull with that railking engine?

  • What's that rectangular thing on top of the nose on the SD60?

  • Eric, do ALL MTH diesel engines have die-cast metal bodies?

  • @james1234434 MTH does not make any of their diesels with die-cast bodies. They all have plastic bodies. They do, however, make all of their diesels with metal frames and die-cast fuel tanks, pilots and trucks.

  • @james1234434 Yes.

  • Thanks dude! I didn't know that! LOL

  • I remember the product lines of Railking: Imperial, Railking Scale, Rugged Rails, and Die-Cast. Is that all the lines from Railking?

  • @TheGordon4 Railking has several variation product lines underneath it. Imperial, RailKing Scale and Rugged Rails are the only ones that come to mind.

  • That sd60 why should it need wipers? it's got that top hangin over it.

  • Are both Railking and Premier O Scale, the same gauge?

  • @TheGordon4 Yes, same gauge.

  • Railking models are also made for kids under 14 years of age because they don't have detailing like the Premier locos have. A Premier engine could break easily if you give it to an 8 year old who is starting to collect trains.

  • im just starting out i like scale is the pre mier exspensive

  • Thank's a ton for making this video. I think I'm going with RailKing, just because of space and money constraints. Plus, it's not too important to me to have everything in exactly the right place. Thanks!

  • I know a lot of HO Scale modelers will have a detailed lead unit and the filler units are less detailed. Example A Kato SD40-2 leading and a Bachman B32-7 trailing.

  • hey im going to get a premier csx sd70-ace. im also going to purchase a dummy of a relating engine. it would be like a sd40-2. which type of dummy should i get railking or premier. im mean the railking doesnt have much detail but its a dummy and it cost $150, the premier has detail but it is $250

  • @GoldenCreekValleyRR If you're looking for scale realism, get the premier. If you don't really care about having realism, get the railking.

  • i just hate how so many people make the railking line sound terribel. it is amazing. try getting a railking imperial. it is just like a premier model and it runs on 0-31 curves!!!!!!

  • I did a previous video showing ES44's in action, but it wasn't a review. Just ran them around the layout. check out my previous videos.

  • oh yah. how do you buy backdrops. ive been to there backdropexpress. what do you use. but i cant find how to order the size and how much it cost. all i could find was a image.

  • I bought them from backdrop warehouse. Just google backdrop warehouse and their site will come up. Their site is a little confusing, so you may want to call them if you can't make sense of it.

  • Railking is way more cost effective for me... i really don't care much about scale. If i wanted fancy details ill get a railking imperial. The only reason why i have 1 premier engine is because i got it for $250

  • That pretty much sums up why they make the RailKing line.

  • Imperial Railkings WILL have smoke units, whereas the regular Railkings typically won't...an absolute MUST for me when buying an engine.....to the best of my knowledge. Another big difference is the $100 difference between Railking and Premier (diesels)....

  • i got that cn engine it is one of my best engines mind you one of my loinl is the best relly strong for pulling dosent make sense but it works better

  • Cool

  • Great! What I don't get is this. MTH's SD70M-2, what you show here operates on what, O-42 or O-54, but Lionel offers a scale SD70M-2 also that operates on O-31 though. What is the difference? PS if you have O-31 track somewhere and don't mind trying, please see if it would run because this is just kind of strange. Thanks! Five stars.

  • I think the minimum curve for this is O-42. I'm not sure why the lionel version would operate on smaller curves. The thing is, even if a big engine like this will operate on O-31, it's going to look pretty silly doing so because it will hang over the rails so badly when it rounds a corner.

  • Very nice! I like the CR unit any way. Basically if this was an HO vid, it would be comparing Athearn BB to Athearn Genesis.

  • It would be comparing Athearn RTR vs. Genesis. Mth models don't require any assembly.

    Several Railking are Early Premier Proto 1 models. FP45, SD45, GP20, GP9, SD9.

I'm pretty sure that Conrail SD60 was once sold under the Premier line. It's scale length.

  • Yes, many times when MTH upgrades their premier items, they use the old toolings for RailKing.

  • great job on the vid,

where does imperial fall in the lineup?

  • Imperial is stil RailKing, but they have a little more detail in them. Often times when MTH upgrades a premier model's tooling, they will take the old premier tooling and use it on the RailKing line. So RailKing sorta gets to leftovers from the premier line...and you save!

  • Very nice job Eric !!! should help alot of newbies...

  • Very good, thanks for doing it..

  • My dad keeps telling me you should work for MTH; you're a genius at knowing everything of O scale model railroading.

  • If You do , Go to PARTS /Service dept.

That way maybe we can stop begging to get a part!

  • That CN looks beautiful, onc ei get ms Premiere CSX SD60M fixed, i am gonna starts saving up for an NS SD70M-2. i love them, maybe you could make a video of it. thanks eric

  • Great video!
