The Nobel Committee's actions were brilliant and felt worldwide. They broke their own decorum by having two post-award announcements.

The first was that there was about 9 months from the nomination to the voting and the tally was unanimous. Normally the list of nominees is held secret for 50 years and the tally has never been made public before.

And also they spoke out specifically to say that they DO give the NP preemptively.

Nominations for this years prize closed 9 days after Obama took office...there is just no way that anyone could have foreseen whether he would be a deserving candidate.

Obama's foreign policy is pretty nice, I like what he's doing. He's just too weak with health care and the public option, which he said he'd do, during the election.

I agree he did use the public option as a part of his campaign platform, and he articulated it during one of his debates with mcsame.

It's a good civics lesson.. presidential promises oftentimes will still need to be approved by congress.
