Sad to see a soldier of such in honor now in such a decline. If he were at the same strength he had about ten years ago. Then he would have been a good candidate. Not now!
Great sacrifice and worthy of recognition. Not worthy of election, though by any stretch of the imagination. I mean, let's not forget that Hitler went through some traumatic times, but he did not need to be a leader.
Why don't any of the POW/MIA Organizations endorse John McCain? I have much respect for Senator McCain but I BEG YOU ALL TO RECONSIDER THIS MAN UNTIL HE EXPLAINS HIMSELF!
Why has he blocked attempts to OPEN UP THE RECORDS on our MIA/POWS? WHY WERE OUR MEN LEFT IN KOREA/VIETNAM/RUSSIA/CHINA AT THE HANDS OF OUR ENEMIES?
exactly. just like huckabee trying to get elected on being the "most" Christian. Just cause someone was tortured doesn't mean you should vote for them on that. their are plenty of veterans out their that have endured the same, but they don't qualify for president.
Just got back from early voting in Duval County, FL. Proud to have voted for McCain. Not much of a turnout at the library. Need to let everyone know that they can show up to any library and early vote...it is easy!
These nuts are out of hand....looks like they are ready to deny citizenship to the children of our service members serving overseas....Born in Panama...yes he was...at the U.S. Naval Hospital at the base his father served at....
McCain is not the man to restore the economy of our nation nor restore our respect abroad. He is too much a "Big Corporations" man like Bush and people are fed up of ..."Stay The Course"... We need someone with vision to re-establish our belief in government, our respect abroad and to handle our social issues. Like Clinton, Obama or Edwards.
patitotigre "Higher taxes, more government spending" ...??? You've got to be kidding!! Our nation suffers a $7 trillion deficit under the Republicans. Our economy is going down the drain and the governement has never been so large. Have you been paying attention these last 7 years?? The Democrats need again to come to the rescue and clean up the Republican's mess ... one more time. Clinton/Obama/Edwards...in 2008
During the Clinton's era our nation propers. We had a very broad respect overseas. We respected our Constitution and the treaties made with others. All this is now gone now because of the Republicans. The Republican Congress always sided with "Big Corporations" Big Oils, Big Drugs, Big Finances, Big Agri-Businesses, Big Insurances, Big Automakers, etc. We need CHANGES and only the Democrats will bring us these CHANGES. Be smart vote Democrat.
McCain said that he always speaks the truth. During his visit to Iraq he wore a bullet proff vest. US tanks blocked the entire are, US 'copters flew above him and US snipers were on rooftops. McCain came back and lied...he said to the American people that Iraq was like a peaceful walk to market on a Sunday afternoon. I have no trust in him.
Uh....He's not just a senator, but probably a president elect. WORLD FAMOUS. Going to Iraq shows he has guts and is not afraid of literally being in that situation. Him being in Iraq is completely different from you and I being there. Terrorists know when he's president hes not going to let up on them. So what a perfect opportunity for them to plan something while he's walking by. Him not getting attacked sounds like a "peaceful walk to the marker on a Sunday afternoon to me."
thekillbox...I love the way you spin my comment like a true republican. The guy went to Iraq and blatantly lied that all was fine...it wasn't. I have no respect for liars. NONE! "Straight Talk Express" my ass!!
Is it not reasonable that someone running for president wears a bullet proof vest anywhere ESPECIALLY IRAQ? Iraq is still a hot spot. Protection is a MUST. Obama has protection like that now, because people are afraid someone will try something. It's terrible that our world has come to this. It's supposed to be candidates on both sides creating new and better ideas to get to the same goal, not hate for each other so that we turn a blind eye to other side, that sometimes does have a better idea.
You are so right. Look at the great persons that got assassinated because they wanted to gave her a better world. Abe Lincoln, JFK, Ghandi, Unwar Suddat, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, ... and Jesus !!
i hate it when people call romney a flip flopper lets take a look at mccain. mccain flip flopped for immigration as soon as he started running for president when did romney become pro life? like 6 years ago so why dont you people tell me which issue is more important to you immigration or abortion
Romney has a pattern of changing his stances/mind. From being a "life-long" hunter (been twice), to bashing Reagan, supporting don't ask don't tell, and supporting the Brady Bill. He has changed his platform 3 times since the campaign started! In IA he was religious. In NH, the candidate of change. In MI, a liberal populist. Can you tell me one issue that he has been consistent on?
One clue that Romney is our strongest candidate is the fact that Democrats keep viciously attacking him while expressing their deep respect for Mike Huckabee and John McCain. Voting for McCain because he was a POW a quarter-century ago or Huckabee because he was a Baptist preacher is like buying a new car because you like the color. The candidate Republicans should be clamoring for is the one liberals are feverishly denouncing. That is Mitt Romney by a LANDSLIDE

Someone mentioned that McCain was making his military service the primary focus of his campaign. Nothing could be further from the truth. He rarely mentions it and is very humble about it. John McCain's record is incredible and deserves recognition - his captivity was brutal but he willingly stayed, choosing to remain and suffer with his buddies. He was tortured, his body was broken and bayonetted, and he was left for dead. Everyone should know what kind of man he is - a true hero and patriot.
McCain developed a plan for Iraq that has decreased violence by 60% and destroyed al-aqaeda in iraq by 75%. we dont need a republican...we need someone who can save america!

If you are having second thoughts about Republican or Democratic Presidential candidates I urge you to take a close look at Mitt Romneys record. I recommend that you dont take the medias opinion or even rely on my own judgement research his accomplishments. He passed Bi-Partisan health care reform that did not socialize medicine or raise any taxes to do it. He actully reduced taxes in Massachusetts. He is also steadafst opposed ti illegal amnesty a big difference from John McCain.

No doubt McCain is a POW. But what does that have to do with being President? I think it a shame that McCain use this to get votes. To me it cheapens my repect for is sevice to our country. I think this ad is done in poor taste and out of desperation for votes. I would rather hear him talk about his record as a senator.
It has a lot to do with being president. His experience as a POW gives him a perspective that no other candidate has. Personally and Militarily. The time he spent locked up reinforced certain values in him, such as confidence and his ability to perform under situations of stress and uncertainty and his focus and commitment, that are required for a leader and to such a high degree that not many other to accomplish.
I appreciate John McCain's service to his country....but why is he making it a focus of his campaign?? My dad was a veteran. Rarely did he talk about his experiences in war. Few veterans do. Few wear their experiences in war on their sleeve. It's called humility. Reminds me of John Kerry's forced salute and his "I'm... reporting for duty" line at the Democratic Convention. Both men-acts of desperation and in poor taste.
Veteran and POW/MIA are completely different things. He never brings it up, someone else does, and the only respectable thing to do is respond. He went through more than probably 95% of any American alive today has been through. I'm surprised it isn't a bigger deal than it is.

McCain has as much experience as Nixon and Dick Chaney. Therefore he's guaranteed to do as good a job... as Nixon and Chaney.
Andrew Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklyn Roosevelt all had very little experience, but they were GREAT Presidents.
Lincoln had only had 2 years in the House before becoming President!
It's not about experience, it's about judgement, character and vision.

Sorry, but that is not a winning ticket.
McCain/Thompson 08 or even McCain/Romney 08 is much better.
A sure victory over any Democrat.
Strong centrist with a younger more "conservative" VP.

With all due respect (and much is due for his military service) - a vote for McCain is a vote for the end of the Republican Party as we know it.
Do we really need a liberal and a semi-liberal party in this country?
Although we must appreciate it, military heroism is no prerequisite for presidential greatness.
Ulysses Grant won the civil war - but he is considered one of the worst presidents.
Reagan did not serve - how did he do as president?
Ivorygate 4 years ago
exactly. just like huckabee trying to get elected on being the "most" Christian.

Sick of McCain's sympathy crap. Who cares that you were a POW. What are you going to do as a president.
A vote for McCain is a vote for Amnesty for 12 million illegals and a continuance of more poor uneducated Mexicans flooding the US.

McCain is not the man to restore the economy of our nation nor restore our respect abroad. He is too much a "Big Corporations" man like Bush and people are fed up of ..."Stay The Course"... We need someone with vision to re-establish our belief in government, our respect abroad and to handle our social issues. Like Clinton, Obama or Edwards.
librophile 4 years ago
I respect my left wing friends, but I simply disagree with the way they want to lead our country.
Higher taxes, more government spending, a weakened military force and unsecured borders is not my cup of tea.
Sorry, but Nevada is voting for John McCain!

patitotigre 4 years ago
patitotigre "Higher taxes, more government spending" ...??? You've got to be kidding!! Our nation suffers a $7 trillion deficit under the Republicans. Our economy is going down the drain and the governement has never been so large. Have you been paying attention these last 7 years?? The Democrats need again to come to the rescue and clean up the Republican's mess ... one more time. Clinton/Obama/Edwards...in 2008
librophile 4 years ago
True, but your candidates will only multiply to the mayhem.
The problem is uncontrolled spending (something that has always occured with wars).
I don't know about you, but I've been actually fighting/saving lives these last 7 years.
The Dems have the advantage this election, but I am sticking to what works for my family and America.

I have no trust in him.
librophile 4 years ago
He's been in public life for almost 50 years. Sure, he's done stuff that pissed people off, like hold criminals and corporations accountable.
I think people call that integrity.
patitotigre 4 years ago 3

NONE! "Straight Talk Express" my ass!!
librophile 4 years ago 2
Is it not reasonable that someone running for president wears a bullet proof vest anywhere ESPECIALLY IRAQ? Iraq is still a hot spot. Protection is a MUST. Obama has protection like that now, because people are afraid someone will try something. It's terrible that our world has come to this. It's supposed to be candidates on both sides creating new and better ideas to get to the same goal, not hate for each other so that we turn a blind eye to other side, that sometimes does have a better idea.

i hate it when people call romney a flip flopper lets take a look at mccain. mccain flip flopped for immigration as soon as he started running for president when did romney become pro life? like 6 years ago so why dont you people tell me which issue is more important to you immigration or abortion
mydodgers1 4 years ago
Romney has a pattern of changing his stances/mind. From being a "life-long" hunter (been twice), to bashing Reagan, supporting don't ask don't tell, and supporting the Brady Bill. He has changed his platform 3 times since the campaign started! In IA he was religious. In NH, the candidate of change. In MI, a liberal populist. Can you tell me one issue that he has been consistent on?
214019439 4 years ago 2
Mitt Romney is desperate for GOP acceptance.
He has major issues with sticking to a single position and will say anything to get votes.
He is merely a privileged frat boy who cares little about people and more about corporations and special interests.
Sorry, but no thanks!
Nevada for John McCain!
patitotigre 4 years ago
One clue that Romney is our strongest candidate is the fact that Democrats keep viciously attacking him while expressing their deep respect for Mike Huckabee and John McCain. Voting for McCain because he was a POW a quarter-century ago or Huckabee because he was a Baptist preacher is like buying a new car because you like the color. The candidate Republicans should be clamoring for is the one liberals are feverishly denouncing. That is Mitt Romney by a LANDSLIDE

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) lambasted Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) Thursday for "betraying" the conservative movement.

Tom DeLay has little credibility and has been charged with conspiracy in a campaign finance scheme in his own state of Texas.
patitotigre 4 years ago 3
Someone mentioned that McCain was making his military service the primary focus of his campaign. Nothing could be further from the truth. He rarely mentions it and is very humble about it. John McCain's record is incredible and deserves recognition - his captivity was brutal but he willingly stayed, choosing to remain and suffer with his buddies. He was tortured, his body was broken and bayonetted, and he was left for dead. Everyone should know what kind of man he is - a true hero and patriot.

CLACKEY573 4 years ago
It has a lot to do with being president. His experience as a POW gives him a perspective that no other candidate has. Personally and Militarily. The time he spent locked up reinforced certain values in him, such as confidence and his ability to perform under situations of stress and uncertainty and his focus and commitment, that are required for a leader and to such a high degree that not many other to accomplish.
AtheistHero 4 years ago 10
I agree with Clackey573.
ApocalypsePlough 4 years ago
Veteran and POW/MIA are completely different things. He never brings it up, someone else does, and the only respectable thing to do is respond. He went through more than probably 95% of any American alive today has been through. I'm surprised it isn't a bigger deal than it is.
