  • Good camerawork. The camera was already off the car to probably focus on the next car, but quicky turned back when the tires screeched.

  • Well, in a game that crash could have been avoided if he had not countersteer. Since the car is RWD, and the traction was lost at the front because the gas cut off, if he only gave it gas again and kept the tires straight, after the grass the car would have been hable to catch grip and gone straight. The countersteer was made with one tire on the grass, so it sent the car into a vortex.

  • He had it until it just grabbed hard, and with those racing tires it just got thrown.

  • @fifficus He correctly steers wheel to the left until one poiont otherwise he would carsh instantly on the right.

    His mistake was he took foot from throtthe, and even worse, hit the brakes.

  • He didn't 'suddenly steer left', he was countersteering to and suddenly caught a patch of traction, and it swung left. It was a mistake that anyone could have made, I just feel sorry for the poor guy. It doesn't look like he over-corrected because he was already in control of the slide around the corner, but then it switched right.

  • @SuperLuke68 That would just lead to another accident, the cars are flying in the corner about a speed of 100-150 km/h and if a person gets hit by that speed, he's dead for sure! But i think they managed to help him somehow.

    Looked to me like he took the corner to tight and got the back end out, then over-corrected after the kerb and that's pretty much it, he's just a passenger.

  • @niall456 The car oversteered and as he was correcting it it caught grip. When that happens, you're just along for the ride.

    Das erkennt man gut daran, das sich das Auto bis zum Moment des Aufpralls um 180 Grad gedereht hat, also sich mit dem Heck in Fahrtrichtung befand.

  • CORRECTION! The guy below was right. He is refering to the car going left to right to left which builds momentum and throws the car in a direction i.e. like in the video. It is more commonly refer to as "overcorrecting" , but is basically the same thing. It does not matter if the car has perfect weight distribution, you cant throw it back and forth, especially on a down hill turn.

  • No, actually the reason you see a lot of crashes there is that it's easy to get to for spectators. It's no worse than any other corners really, blind crest, off camber, hidden dip etc...

  • @feffe85 It wasn't 'overcompensation' it's called snap oversteer. In the car it's like this: turning, turning, too fast no grip, no grip, no grip countersteer and let off throttle ahhh grip ohhh fuck fuckk fuckk brakeeeee too late BANG! go home

  • I felt he understeered, realized what he had done, but then the tail went out and he went into counter-steer mode, at that point he regains traction and the car veers into the rail because he did NOT need to countersteer that heavily.

  • Forget all the analysis. During competitive driving, people often have to push at the limits, surely sometimes shit happens. Name me ANY one motor racing great who never had an accident...

  • You don't have to crash to push the limits, you don't even have to spin to find the limits. Rick Mears is a good example, when he retires in '93 he ran Indianapolis for 15years, won 4 times, front row 11 times and only hit the wall twice due to mechanical failure (tire) not due to the lack of skill/control.

  • He was lagging behind and was pushing the car too far. Gotta keep those tires on the track around the high right/right turns. Wicked crash though :/ Looked like it hurt.

  • i think your playing to many games kid....these guy underestimated RWD Car and how the characteristics are....this is understeer...not ebrake...expecially...when this kind of sport and tuned on difference suspension tuning more of grip and stiffness...camber and toe is all adjusted so by doing that...changes the characteristics of the cars handleing...but quite playing those and accually drift behind the wheel for once...

  • Late reaction/ too slow turning out of the initial counter steer... very common.. then he had too much countering before the grass/berm (he could have kept the second slide by going over it then quick steering once he hit asphalt again). It was just unfortunate, and this happens to everyone a few times, happened to me too in the mountains. Was very similar to this except I had more room and went in a little ditch with my driver side tires instead of head on.

  • it looks to me like the cars tires were not meant for that type of driving. let me explain. at around the 15-16 second mark of the vid,,just before the entire loss of control,,you can see the rear end breaking loose that causes the crash. leading me to believe that the tires broke loose and cause the dreaded oversteer condition.

  • my mistake my original posting of the seconds is wrong. the crash begins to happens at the 17 second mark, this is where you see the rear end losing traction.

  • Quit being such a tool! Oversteer is a condition that can be induced by a bad driver, not the car. This is an M3, Motorsports 3-series, doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

  • When i went to the nurburgring (i live in Germany) on a holiday we were dissapointed to find that the day we got there a car racing club, with cars like stripped out M5's and 911 GT3's, had booked the day there. This was probaly something like that.

  • Yes, clutching (killing throttle) can help in given situations, but in this case he was going toooo fast, really nothing he could have done to prevent himself from going off track.
