Why do Dj's that simply flip a crossfader left and right to offset a beat think that they are so highly skilled? There is no skill in that at all, ok it might sound effective at times but anyone could pull that off.
@skankingrhythmics Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the skill involved in scratching and mixing as I do it myself but what I'm saying is when a dj has two copies of a track offset by a beat then they simply wiggle the crossfader left and right, granted it can sound interesting but there isn't hardly any skill in that technique, yet the crowd always go wild! A lot of DMC djs seem to rely on it.
@TedWinni Nobody understands what I meant. I didnt mean flicking the crossfader left and right whilst moving the pitch to make a tune. I meant DJ's that think they are gifted just because one record is a beat behind the other and they are moving the crossfader from one deck to the other. No skill at all, it sounds pretty good but its not hard. My days of Djing are long gone, I did do DMC in the very early days but nothing serious as I was a pretty decent scratch DJ, not a showman.
@TedWinni Having looked at your age you would have been receiving your mothers breast milk at the time. It was a UK contest and I wasn't even going in for it, just did a bit of scratching (which I guess was advanced for the time) and the cameras were all over me at which point I felt uncomfortable and quietly crawled away. I've never been a showman and thats what it takes to win DMC.
Before you give me the Spanish Inquisition, can I see your credentials please? Listen this is all a tad childish, I was a decent scratch DJ back in the 80s, my heroes were Cash Money and Jeff. I still believe Jeff is the most technically gifted Dj on the planet in terms of putting a showcase together and the earlier stuff he did live. My scratch style was pretty similiar but I've not Dj'd for 20 yrs and am just getting back into it learning the crab etc to see what the fuss is. Nothing serious.
@maccagrabme Like i thought... you never competed in the DMC did you :) either that or your afraid to give me the name you where under because you weren't as great as you are telling me you wher
Suppose we all can be who we want to be on the internet. Yours is a Fictional Dj Back when i was receiving my mothers breast milk
@TedWinni I never said I did actual compete but was that standard back in the 80s and early 90s, same with the scratching. Of course I don't compete now, I gave it up 20 yrs ago when I thought hiphop and djing were dying and to be honest felt i had grown out of it. I have got into it again for fun and find that I can do all the old tricks and most of the new ones. Its addictive but the buzz isn't there like it was and I have other priorities in life. Where are your credentials out of interest?

@maccagrabme scratching and actually making a tune whist doing it is skill you could not do what kentaro does.. otherwise you would compete at DMC...
