  • Nevermind i saw the answers to my question on your website. beatiful stuff, hope to own one someday, maybe when im not a poor student

  • Simply beautiful. I've wanted a long stem pipe, because i'm a ridiculous nut when it comes to the Lord of the Rings. The video did not show the wood selection though.... at my local tobacco shop, they said pipe prices veried according to the quality of wood, which is apparently from the root of a tree, and the finer the piece the higher the price.... How do you go about this process?

  • like a boass

    ^^ very good work

  • truly an artistic masterpiece

  • Can you make a video on making the stem of the pipe please. I want to make a pipe for my father but don't know how to make the stem. Msg back please

  • at 2:19 what tool are you using?

  • in 8:06 what you use??

  • what exactly does lighting the stain on fire do? Does it make it darker or does it just help it to dry quicker?

  • A true woodworking skill. I love seeing real skills put to use. Great video

  • Can you please tell me what kind of tool that is you use to turn down the tenon

  • I would have lost at least four fingers by about four minutes in.

  • Had a look at the website, these are some really, very handsome pipes. I was particularly shocked at the price ranges as well. I would have added a zero myself!

  • what sanding wheel machine is that you were using at the beginning?

  • and where i can find the plastic part of pipe? i make only the woodwn part... im in greece thanks

  • @pcstudios3 The mouthpiece is usually made of Vulcanite or Ebonite , types of hardened rubber. I make my own using rods of vulcanite i purchase from a supplier

  • in 5:52 what is that? paint? petrol?

  • Beautiful pipe. where do I get one and how much?

  • Found your page via Milverton68's mention of you, have subscribed, fascinating videos, thanks for posting!

  • That was fantastic! Great skill and a pleasure to watch

  • That clip was an absolute pleasure to watch - what an art!

  • Absolutely beautiful! Been thinking about trying to make my own pipe, just looks like it would be fun to try and gratifying to smoke a pipe I made my self.

  • i love pipes.... you are perfect.... some day maye you teach me how to make pipes....

  • I wish I had 1/4 of that skill....anyone want to teach me? lol

  • Absolutely superb.

  • I have 2 Pipes from Blakemar Briars They are Truly a work of Art and they Smoke Brilliantly

  • How much would one of these pipes cost can someone tell me

  • One word Art!

  • looks like you've done the spin thing with the pipe on the sander at 4:45 a few times haha. effortless

  • Fascinating stuff. How long would it take to make a pipe like that, from start to finish? Presumably more than 10 minutes, 32 seconds!

Do you buy the acrylic mouthpiece blanks in, and simply finish them off yourself, or do you make them from scratch as well?

  • Hi, I am an amature pipe maker myself, although on a much smaller scale than this using only hand tools, hand drilling and carving the stem and bowl and so forth simply because I find it calming and enjoyable.

I have been trying out the old fire drill method to make the bowl but I keep having the problem of the wood splitting either because of the heat, pressure or both.

You wouldn't have any advice for avoiding this by any chance?

Very nice pipe by the way, do you fire harden the bowl?

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Fantastic, what else can I say. From a piece of wood in dirt to such a beautiful piece of art.

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is cool!

  • I'm still a little confused as to what keeps the stem in place...it is kept in place somehow, right?

  • i really wanna go make a pipe now. like right now.

  • You sir, are an artist! :D Great job!

  • What did you dip the pipe in at 7:50 and why?

  • @TobaccoOnFire Its just cold water - the mouthpiece is soft at this stage and the cold water re-hardens it quickly so that the bent shape is retained

  • @BlakemarBriars What tool do you use to sand down the pipe like in 4:37?

  • Why do you ignite the stain? Does it affect the permanence or the color of the stain? Very nicely crafted, by the way.

  • @MegaPickledOnions The stain is ignited to burn off the excess spirits, the resulting colour is slightly darker than if the stain is allowed to dry naturally. The permanence is not affected.

  • hi, i just wodering? what is the name of the product you brushed on the pipe?

  • mesmorizing, your hand motion is incredible

  • Can you make bent pipes as well?

  • @rammsteinforlife this one is bent?

  • where did you get all of your machinery?

  • Great video, however it would help if you described exactly what your doing along the way with an explanation of the buffs, compounds, etc that your using.

  • good pipe but...at 3:41 you left the chuck running, and long sleeves, very dangerous!

  • @BreakBeatDnB I cringed at that point as well.

  • This was beautiful !!!!!!! Really keep going :)

  • Nice work but, You do know your not supposed to be wearing a long sleeve shirt right?

  • I wish I had the ability to do this let alone the start up money it would cost.

    This was beautiful.

  • Fascinating video... Thanks for sharing.

  • wow very nice i vas juste wonderring what kind of wood u are using and where u can get some

  • thats cool what kinda wood did u make that with

    very nice looking pipe ;)

  • absolutely beautiful! im a woodturner myself and you do an amazing job. though i was wondering, where do you find the vulcanized rubber you use for the mouthpiece?

  • @mcdemax12 I buy the mouthpieces pre-moulded from Carlo Giudici of Italy.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • What's the name of the tool that you're using to turn the tenon at 3:20?

  • @ZeroContentSF I don't know if the tool itself has a name, the part that actually turns the tenon is made from carbon steel and was made specially to fit the tool chuck of the flocking machine.

    Thanks for watching,

    Mike

  • Wonderful video thank you for sharing with us.

    Pip

  • Can you recommend a particular type of stain as you use around 5:55 in the video? I'm assuming it is alcohol based. Also, is it possible to use tung oil? How does that react with the briar and heat?

  • @silvermediastudio The stain I use is alcohol based, I mix the stain myself using powdered dye and methylated spirits. The dyes date back to the 60's / 70's when my uncle used to buy them in quite large quantities, I do not know if they are still available to buy - but I have enough stock left to last my lifetime and perhaps a few more as well! I am not familiar with tung oil so I can't really comment on it's use.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • @BlakemarBriars can we all agree that was so crazy shit when he stuck he hand into the space between the running leight to check and see if the bit fit not to mention long sleeves and leathe i nearly shit my pant sim like omg hes gonna get a hand riped off some day

  • what a fantastic video - simply wonderful.

  • You make all that look so easy and effortless, but I know there is a lot of room for error in all those processes. Really enjoyed watching you demonstrate your craft.

  • Thank you for showing your art in this excelent video, sir. I will get a Blakemar very soon.

    Cheers

    Gustavo

  • Incredibly talented craftsman! great video and beautiful pipe.

  • You sir are a talented craftsman. Always a pleasure to see some one make a thing of beauty with their own hands & ability. I will say you scared me a little when you were milling the stem to fit the bowl. You slid the spinning head of the chuck a few inches away while you test fitted the pieces together. The cutter was inches from your hand & one slip while removing the bowl from the stem & well you know.... no doubt you know what you're doing. It shows in this excellent video.

  • @graemelockieable Yes, it can be dangerous - I've got the scars to prove it!

    Thanks for the kind comments,

    Mike

  • Fantastic video! I own two Blakemars so far and they are exellent smokers. Looking forward to extedindig my colletion.

    Great work!

    -Mike

  • I bought three pipes from you last Friday Mike when I visited your workshop and display room. I'm really thrilled with all three! I shall return to purchase more in due course!

    Keep up the good work.

    Paul

  • I have a blakemar..excellent pipe...great and friendly service..

  • Great video. I have brought three pipes from Blakemar all excellent smokers and great examples of the pipe makers craft.

  • I really like this video. I would love to learn how to make a pipe. I'm going to start with learning how to do it freehand since I have no tools or much money. Just mostly elbow grease.
