She has to bring the comic to the song as well because it is her character in the play. Im a female singer as well and I fell in love with the song after hearing her sing it on the play. I think her mic didn't do any justice for her, because I've heard her live and she ripped that song up. I work with sound and production and if those mic's are cheap and the sound board is not set right for the high,lows, and mids a beautiful voice will come off terrible

Shes an amazing vocalist. THose if you who said she's doing too much are right...HOWEVER...thats her character in the show. EVERYTHING she did every line she said every face she made was waaaay over the top. It's theater over-acting and doing too much is accepted on stage. I'm sure if Tyler Perry really thought it was too much TRUST he would not have let her on stage. At the end of the day she was doing too much but again that was the nature of her character in the musical.
